Stretching northward along the coastline of the Suvan Sea, the Cobalt Mountains are the home of the Bronze Wood, numerous ruins, and creatures both strange and fantastical.

Marrick had stood there and stared at the cave all the while that the others had arrived. When Nivel had told them what 'it' was, his feeling of dread sank deeper into his stomach and lodged itself somewhere in his bowls. No wonder Kiter was nervous. Everything had begun to happen so fast that he scarcely had time to say a word, though thankfully Archailist had tried to suggest restraint in their curiosity, for once the Icy eyed squire had to agree with him. This was not a time he felt overwhelmingly curious about this new thing. True it was our mission to bring peace and civilization to the land in Sylir’s name but as Nivel dove headlong into the cave entrance the Kelvic could only deem it to be madness.
It wasn’t long before Oriah had gone after her as well, and the Dark haired squire nearly bolted immediately after. Though one thing stopped him. How the hai would he find her if he did run blindly after her. Instead he stepped back, and ran to his saddle bags. If they were going to survive a trip into a cave, they’d need all manner of gear. What if they had to descend a cliff face? What if someone fell? What if there was a collapse? What if Oriah got hurt!?
All the “what ifs” tumbled through Marrick’s head like bread from a basket. As he ran to Kiter’s side, the massive mare shifted her position it seemed simply out of pure uncertainty at if the Kelvic would be able to stop in time. Marrick slid his longbow into a loose strap and began to dig.
“What the bloody Hai do’a need!” he growled as he dug through his saddle bags. Food? “No no no.” he said as he frantically shoved his rations aside. Out of panicked concern he looked over his shoulder as Aventis entered. Yet another one lost to the cave, was everyone mad save for Archailist, Sera Mora, and himself? Just what sort of powers did this thing have!? With renewed effort he unslung his pack, and hung it from the saddle horn. “Cave, Marrick it’s a cave. It’sa cave, it’sa cave, it’sa cage- the Kelvic clapped a gloved hand over his mouth realizing he’d just said what it was that was making him so hesitant to go inside. It reminded him of a cage. Memories of slave quarters, whippings, and cages so tight that his feathers poked out. His companions were in there though, and they would need help, lest they get lost in the dark, and taken by the Qamur.
Marrick shut his eyes tightly and bit the heel of his palm, focusing on the pain instead of the fear that gripped him. With a deep gasp of air he tore his hand away and dug again. He shuffled through all his belongings. One item after another. He knew it would get tight in the cave so the pack would stay here. That left him limited carrying space. He emptied his belt pouch into his pack and filled it with essentials. His Straight Edge Razor, a day Ration, flint and steel all fit snuggly into the little pouch. He left on his shackle pouch, and the shackles inside. Sylir knew why, it’s not like he thought he could restrain the Qamur. The thing sounded intangible to the Kelvic, yet the way some of his companions were acting perhaps he’d need to use the irons on them.
The Squires icy eyes travelled along his body as he checked his gear franticly as if he’d lost his bag of Mizas in the market. When he was satisfied he moved on. He un-looped his dagger from his hip, and tied it down to one of the bits of harness on his shoulder, gods knew what sort of cramped spaces they’d find inside. Finally he checked his longsword to make sure it was tightly secured. With a final sigh, he soothingly stroked Kiters long neck to comfort himself as much as the horse and turned. His path was cave bound, but he stopped short and gave Sera Mora a look filled with worry. “Fergive me Sera, but did yeh happen teh bring any-“ Marrick’s question was cut short as the lady knight shoved three torches into his face. The Kelvic was taken aback, but none the less grateful. “Aye. How the bloody Hai do yeh do that?” The grimace he gave her was met with a smirk, and he cradled the little wooden lights in his arm as he strode cautiously after his compatriots.
The light dwindled as the Kelvic crossed the threshold of the cave entrance and the sense of foreboding shook him to his very core. However, that did not stop him from kneeling in the soft clay of the cavern floor, and producing his flint and steel. He struck the metals edge, and the little bit of stone and metal made a soft click with each strike. They produced sparks, but not enough to catch the torch he’d been given. He lay the other two torches nearby and focused on just one. He snapped the flint repetitively, until at last the sparks caught and the torch danced with light. With a fire of hope in his eye, the Kelvic lifted the light source and held it aloft. With an effort he gathered up his flint and steel, and slipped them back into his belt pouch and snapped it closed before he gathered the other torches.
His companions had to be somewhere up ahead. Though fear filled his heart, the concern for his companions was greater. Bravely, the Icy eyed Squire stepped forward. A little light in the darkness. |

Comments: It was a lovely intro to a big quest but it was too bad it didn't get past the start. Still, I enjoyed the diverse interaction between the different characters even as they were just starting to get to know each other.
And Nivel, I loved your concluding post. I laugh nearly every time I see it (including when you first put it up).
