AppearanceRace: Human, mixed (half Vantha)
Gender: male
Age: 18
Birthday: 8, Winter, 497.
Birthplace: Avanthal
Appearance: Isa appears to be very young for his age, as his face still retains childlike qualities that makes it easy for others to mistake him for a lost kid; however, he has had episodes of blemishing when the onset of puberty ran its course through his system. Although not a frequently recurring problem for the young man due to his diet consisting mostly of warm porridge with bits of fruits, breakouts usually occur during times when Isa is under great stress. Due to his mixed heritage, he has somewhat paler skin compared to his mother and the rest of the Vantha, making him stand out from the rest of the community to some degree; this difference was further emphasized by Isa having fluffy black hair with his bangs usually covering his left eye instead of the the characteristic straight or curly. Having a sleek body build and standing at a height of 5'9'', Isa was often out tending to animals or doing errands around his home; however, after having learned reimancy from his father, his body isn't as lively as it once was due reimancy causing a physical aberration affecting his stamina, appearing more average and meek yet still physically capable. One last difference between Isa and the other Vantha is that, like most half-breeds, his dark red eyes don't fluctuate in color according to his mood, but is stuck in a fixed color.
Currently, as it was in his life in Avanthal, Isa wears multiple layers of wool clothing to keep him comfortable. Oddly enough, his preferred attire of choice are three layers of wool robes, a decorative cap, and a pair of pants; the robes are tied together into a makeshift sleep sack that he frequently rests in. Listening to stories of some of his father's travels and exploits, it was enthralling to imagine what it was like to have lived in a place like Lhavit, get barraged with several questions at Denval
Character ConceptIsa's peculiarities and eccentric nature stems from both his upbringing and the influence brought on by his usage of magic. Isa sees almost the entirety of living to be a game that has no obvious winners or losers in it, encouraging the odd fellow to be reckless with whatever endeavor he does half of the time. A strong sense of curiosity serves as the primary reason as to why he would venture near a snake pit, if ever there were one for him to peek at, in order to see all the serpentine creatures wiggling about; having lived only in the wintery environment of Avanthal for most of his life, the youth wanted to see more of the world and what it was about, ultimately leading to the unsolvable question of what purpose he had in it. A dangerous magic when used improperly, Isa's experiences when using reimancy have been a mixed result in that it has given him a sense of being a free spirit; the philosophy that he adopted from his father is that, like the res that he is able to manipulate and become almost any element, he is has the capability of being anything he wished to be and more. Yet, it also taught him that there were limits to what he could and could not do without sacrifice, which made him somewhat more attentive and cautious in that regard when he would otherwise rush head first into something.
Normally, Isa can be either very mellow or very excitable, with both extremes having very specific triggers to them. In order to minimize the dangers of learning and performing reimancy, his father taught him meditation along with limiting the time they practiced magic; in short, it was a lesson of either being patient, or learn how to deal with having an arm melted off and having a really bad owwie. Another extra measure of preparation was the bit of wilderness survival he learned from his mother on the side. Learning to fend for himself to some extent along while trying to find greater mental clarity gave Isa an outlet to become more relaxed and calm enough to think some things through, though this might be foiled by any sufficiently interesting new thing that the very curious weirdo might come across; one example would be during his travels from Avanthal to Syliras, where while the caravan stopped to make camp, the young boy had stumbled upon a tiny hill where even tinier creatures were crawling into and out of it. Isa was so excited, he rushed over as fast as he could to look at the miniscule six-legged critters he later came to learn were ants, prostrating himself on all fours to look at the hardworking little things.
Although Isa has a very whimsical approach to life, he holds all living things as precious, and has learned from his father that the dead must also be given proper respect; however prone to silliness and zany antics he may be, the childish would-be adventurer isn't ignorant to the other side of life that is fraught with dangers and misgivings. But rather than trying to feign blindness from it, he is just starting to accept the entirety of what uncertainty might lie ahead and that it is Nature's grand design that is without blame; however, if he sees that there is a way for him to realize the best possible outcome, he will try with dogged determination to see it come true no matter degree of self-sacrifice, making him both cunning and relentless. Strongly loyal to his family and anyone who befriends him to a fault, Isa will go to great, and sometimes hilariously ridiculous, lengths to help them out. Slow to anger, there aren't many things that could sufficiently provoke an aggressive response from the oddball; however, the sight of people or animals being mistreated would give him good enough reason to try and do something. Other triggers would be if Isa was forced to do something against his will when such a task either goes against his interests, or is something that isn't necessary in a given situation.
Character HistoryIsa was born in Avanthal, the youngest of three children who were as adorable and are as excitable as arctic bunnies. Born to Tayoy Pula and Aarva Frostfawn (who later changed her name to Tayoy Maganda in accordance with tradition), the young half-Vantha enjoyed the usual lifestyle for any child living in the cold and hardy environment; tending and playing with the animals and the like while also learning interesting things from both his mother and father. Growing up, Tayoy Isa had fun when his mother taught him some of her methods of surviving in the wild, learning all sorts of nifty ways of what to do in a winter forest, which was basically getting drinkable water and digging a trench in the snow as a basic shelter. It wasn't until later on that those same lessons would serve a purpose that was almost as vital, as the odd fellow pester his father into teaching him some of the magic that he knew. Constantly in awe of some of his father's stories as he ventured from his former home of Lhavit and finally settled here in Avanthal; what life was like living in the city that was called a star, the sheer excess of curiosity displayed by locals of Denval, the brevity and isolationist tendencies of the Isur that contrasted with the straightforwardness that was seen in how dedicated they were to their professions, and finally the overwhelmingly warm welcome he got once he set foot on Avanthal. Ironic that Tayoy Pula would find a heated and passionate lady who would eventually win him over with her over-the-top theatrical antics and flamboyant flair that rivaled even Pula's own eccentric nature; the irony being that such a burning bundle of strong emotions could be found in a place frozen in ice.
It was at the age of 14 that Pula began to teach his son reimancy, of which he was an expert in his own right while having some actual experiences in its usage through combat and practical applications for survival; this was especially true during the times when Pula occasionally met with a few nasty elements who were encountered some distance after leaving Denval, and again when the Lhavitian camped in intervals and had to deter any wild animals or malcontents that might have proven to be troublesome. The elements that were to be taught to Isa were to be Fire and Earth, with Earth being the first element in order to give the avid student a fundamental reference of stability before moving onto fire; it took well over 3 years in order for young Isa to finally reach a level of competence that would allow him to form the two elements from his res, using the attraction method on any nearby source of available material, and putting in the practice of applying it in a given situation. During those three years, the usually spontaneous and jumpy Isa was taught various means of meditation to focus his mind at the task at hand; this was coupled with the resumed teachings of wilderness survival that Aarva was drilling into her son in order to learn importance of exercising caution and awareness of his surroundings.
As Isa reached the age of 17, both of his parents gave their blessings for him to head out and explore the world, giving him the supplies he would need and some starter money aside from paying for the traveling expenses to head from Avanthal to Syliras by caravan in the duration of nearly 4 months time. Isa already turned 18 when he crossed into the land of Sylira.
