He was taught Arumenic from an early age, then eventually a spattering of High Arumenic, though he left before he learned much. His father was intensely militaristic, able to wield many a weapon and use his fists, though he only taught his son Vai until he was nearly proficient with a longspear, his reasoning being that Vai needed to travel and learn weapons on his own, as he himself did at his son's age. His mother was a political serpent, well-versed with High Arumenic, tactical, and very religious, following the Goddess of Death, Dira, and managing to instill in Vai the strong beliefs of a follower of Dira from a young age, and as such, he views any and all undead as complete monsters that should be eradicated. She agreed with her father that he should leave, as well, and asked him as a loyal follow of the Goddess to remove any that managed to cheat death for Her. Of course, Vai wholeheartedly did so and agreed, as it made sense and he was a traveler at heart. He traveled by ship to Riverfall, where he hopes to learn much from the Akalaks and eventually move on.
