Aladari's Language
Aladari's Common is at Basic, rather than fluent, so she doesn't speak as well as some. In addition, she learned much of her Common in Sunberth, so her accent is thick.
Aladari's Common mistakes are based off of my own mistakes when learning my second language, while her Fratava is based on my own third language. Her Common vocabulary and grammar are decent, though she tends to forget longer words more easily, and isn't good with adjectives because they aren't usually necessary. Frequent Common mistakes are as follows.
- Forgets articles, or adds extra articles
- Uses "of" instead of "from"
- Uses "what" instead of "which" or "that"
- Makes mistakes in tenses (particular trouble with conditional, uses future or present participle instead)
- Leaves off the g's from "-ing".
- Slurs words (diff'rent, pro'lly, dunno)
- Uses "it is" when asking a question, instead of "is it".
- "What is the word for when..."
Mistakes in Fratava are much more major, and create comprehensive problems within the sentence. Her speech is restricted to simple sentences, although commands and single-object words are easier to pick up (for example: Move, Get, Walk, or Fish, Wood, Sun). Her vocabulary is more extensive on objects found on the ocean or in the marketplace, as this is where she uses Fratava. She is unable to use pronouns, such as he, she, we, they, or it. She does, however, know the words "this" and "that".
"The sea always filled her with longing, though for what she was never sure."
