Character Concept

"Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius."

Denis is an artist, first and foremost. He loves beauty in all forms, and can appreciate more mundane art. However, he is a crazy sonofagun whose tastes in 'art' vary from "nice paintings" to "makes boots made from human skin" and "gets turned on by torture."

On the surface, he is polite and kind, but there is a whole lotta crazy bubbling up from under the surface. Deep inside, at his very core, though, he knows there is something... wrong with him, and he silently agonizes over what it could be.

Denis is very handsome, with a strong jaw, captivating eyes, and nice hair. He is relatively fit for his profession, and has visible tone in his muscles. His torso is covered with long, thin scars, which hint towards many deep cuts when he was very, very young.

Character History (Pre-Creation)

Denis Kryadis had a fairly normal life in Ravok. Loving parents, the darling of their community, adored by his peers-

Yeah, no.

Denis was born into a large household. The first of three brothers, and the second of five siblings, Denis was constantly pressured by his family to succeed in the family business, which was tailoring, haberdashery, leatherworking, dyeing. He did excel in tailoring and leatherworking, which was acceptable, for their second child, but his elder sister, Marianne, excelled at each of these, so they wanted him to bring something unique to the family.

That was when he was sent to Maitre Bastian Konan, a man with a small reputation, but a large amount of skill. A master of the Legacy, and scholar of the Ancient Tongue, Maitre Konan took Denis in as an apprentice, and Denis moved into Maitre Konan's home.

Thus, nine years of hell began, scarring the seven-year old Denis for life.

Maitre Konan was a strict master, torturing him for the slightest mistake, beating him if he spoke up without permission, outside of their lessons with the Ancient Tongue. However, such draconian measures did instill high levels of skill in Denis, even if they were inspired by fear of failure. Unfortunately, being beaten or tortured if he spoke up for years left him with festering feelings of rage, hatred, and fury, that he never could express. Bottling them up, they twisted him into something... different, something sadistic. What was simple frustration turned into anger, and love, obsession. Most importantly, though, was Maitre Konan's views on beauty and art. These somehow remained, burned into Denis' psyche.

After the nine-year period of training, Denis returned to his family, more skilled in both tailoring and Malediction, able to speak the Ancient Tongue as well. Even though he was clearly emotionally damaged, his parents did not care. Despite this, he remained loyal to them, and it broke his heart when he saw them slowly succumb to debts, and eventually go out of business. When they had to close their shop, they took a walk off the docks, leaving Denis and his elder sister to take care of their younger siblings.

Denis did the only thing he knew how, tailoring. Getting a loan for a new shop from the Nitrozoan scion, in exchange for some of his profits, he rebuilt his life, so he would have the funds to both take care of his younger siblings and fund his magical... research.
