Voices on the Wind

Some cities have bells to alert its citizens of certain events. Other cities use runners to dispatch information. Things are different in Endrykas. The city changes constantly with an influx of people, continuous moves and an ever-evolving landscape. Despite this tumultuous schedule, the Drykas are a very intimate community and like any group of people, they talk amongst themselves. Sometimes these shared stories are facts and yet others are simply hearsay. One doesn't need to be a web mage to learn the ins and outs of the Tent City. It all boils down to being able to listen to the Voices and filter out the news from the trash.

Here's how it works:

Speaking

Speaking is the act of stating a piece of news or starting a rumor.

ToU

Sustaining

Sustaining is the act of perpetuating a rumor or tidbit of information.

Silencing

Silencing is the act of squashing a rumor or intentionally preventing an article of news from circulating.

Information: Throughout Winter, Haena is asking around the River Flower and various other common places (the Market for example) for people to accompany her on forays into the grasslands searching for rare or unusual plants. This is also tied in with, "Anyone who knows or has heard rumours of rare/unusual/unknown plants, animals or minerals that have previously unknown beneficial side effects- please find Haena at the River Flower".

Information: Jonas Pridesun has returned, he comes speaking of a new god, a true god of all the land. He has started a cult for his new idol, they promise only good things.

Naiya looked up from the feline that sat amicably at her feet, it was early yet, but her morning had lent itself to busy work rather than that of hunting. Busy work, like a great many things, could be completed from inside her shop. ...

"Naiya! So good to see you." The voice interrupted her grooming of the cat as she glanced up to the warm smile of a woman who had shopped with her often. "You're here early, I didn't expect to catch you before midday."

Naiya nodded, her greeting filled with warmth. "Banti found herself caught in a damp waterhole, she showed up covered in mud. No reason not to open early while I handle her fur, right?" she gave the feline an indulgent look. "You were looking for me?"

The woman nodded, her eyes casting about the shelves, "You know how my husband loves cheese, I was hoping to make him a sweet treat to take out this evening. With all the commotion this morning, I've been concerned that he'll miss his meal.

"Sweet cheeses are on the second shelf, left side.... What's the commotion that has you worried?" Her inquiry was one of digging, she knew, but there was little harm in learning the news.

"Haven't you heard? Jonas Pridesun has returned with a group of walhak, he speaks of some new god." The woman looked expectantly at Naiya who could only scoff in return. "The thing is, Jonas is a new man, he... he even looks different, better. I don't know what sort of cult they are forming, but he's welcoming all to join him."

"A cult?" She could hardly hide her suspicion. "I wouldn't dare join a cult run by that man, look how he's treated his people, and now how he treats the gods." She shook her head in disbelief, but already she could see the thoughtful looks on faces outside who overheard their talk. Word of his cult would surely spread quickly.

Even though trapped behind a serious language barrier, the pale blue half-breed Myrian could be found yelling, lifting weights, and horribly dancing around his wagon proudly celebrating Myri, the queen-Goddesses birthday. In honor of Myri, he asked that people start decorate their homes with bones and skulls. He asked he's offered to help 'Build victorious bodies' for anyone who wished to honor and learn about Myri for the remainder of the season.

Information: Among the walahks that returned with Jonas and his Pavilion to Endrykas comes a hideously-scarred man apparently found half in Dira's embrace out in the Sea of Grass, south of Kenash. Dressed in black and white and always wearing a broad-rimmed hat, his bearing is enough to make those around him nervous... and now it is whispered he was seen three nights before crafting fire with his bare hands, that he is a Reimancer. He doesn't speak much but is apparently loyal to Jonas, who it is rumored halted his traveling Pavilion to save the man from death in the Sea of Grass.

"She's been shooting her mouth off like a kid with his first bow, is all I can make of it..."

Konrad's ears pricked up, whetstone against his sword skipping a beat. His Pavi was still improving, but he couldn't fail to hear the rank disgust soaking the young Drykas' words, the anger fueling his quick, vicious hand movements.

"Typical Sapphire Clan," his friend said, spitting into the cooking fire and watching it sizzle. "They know the Web, think they know everything."

"Aye, well, she should button it. I mean, "heretic"? "False idol?" She even said he was a daemon sent by Rhysol to tempt us!"

Both men instinctively made a little sign that Konrad assumed was some childish Pavi symbol of protection. As if twitching your fingers would stop a god. But their bile was not abated, and more they moaned and griped about this woman, an "old cow not fit for pasture" who was decrying in all ways and many volumes their Prophet.

But not her name. He got that later.

Meat slapped on the table, cushioned by furs, and the man behind it rubbed his chin as he perused Konrad's wares. Pitiful though they were, it was still trading goods. A half-dozen rabbit pelts, and meat enough to feed a man for days. The Drykas was taking his time though, and as he waited...

"She needs to mind her step, that's what I say. Nyatha, I told her, you ain't as young as you once were." The words trickled in like water over a rock; he was aware of it, but they didn't permeate. Not until he heard the next part: "You can't go around slagging off an ankal like Pridesun and expect him not to do something."

Pridesun. Ankal. Slagging. He made those out. Now Konrad was half-watching, and all-listening, eyes flitting over to the older woman and a man with a white beard, chatting outside in Syna.

"Oh, I don't think he'll mind. He's all been love and sweetness since he got back."

"Huh!" The woman gave a titanic huff that wobbled bosom enough for two. "Well. A man comes back that certain of himself, he's one to watch. Especially chatting on about some damn silly One God."

"Each to his own, dear."

"Aye, well, not when "his own" could get some gods we know exist bloody cheesed off at us. And try telling that to Nyatha..."

Konrad didn't get much for his wares, but the trip wasn't an entire waste.

Information: Word's been spreading around Endrykas that the scarred walahk known as "Hansel" is more than just a budding mage; he's also an accomplished fighter, and apparently enjoys testing himself against all comers. Usually found at the disgraced Pridesun Pavilion, the man is usually bedecked with weapons but has a particular expertise with the oddly curved sword at his hip... though the rumors say he's far more dangerous with his bare hands. Thus far he's sparred with a handful of Moving City residents, and has not once asked for payment: only that they give him a decent challenge.
