This forum is an OOC forum for PCS and Organizations to work out plans in hardcopy. Each PC or Organization gets a single thread where their players can help work out plans for their PC. Quests, mini-sagas, and Trips can all be organized here as well working out timelines and points of travel and things PCs need to do along the way. Each PC however gets only one Plotnote for their individual PC. Groups get one as well. There is no limit on individuals posting saga or trip plotnote threads. Please denote [PC Plotnotes] or [Group Plotnotes] or [Quest/Trip/Saga Plotnotes] when titling your threads.

Artigan's Plotnotes

Current Season

Summer 517

Despite my sudden drop from the face of Mizahar, I do think that Artigan has settled in my mind as a character. He is still fairly simple, due to the fact that last season, he was not really challenged. I would like that to change. I would like for him to encounter a situation that puts him under stress and see how he responds, either socially or through real danger. Thread-wise, I would like for him to begin actually inventing gadgets, and especially building up support skills (carpentry, drawing, math). In addition, I would like to get some flashback topics fleshed out – particularly the ones regarding magic.

Artigan's Plotnotes

Long-Term Goals

Magic
The understanding of world principles has been and still is a major driving force in Artigan's character. He seeks to know what happens in the world around him, from the mundane to the miraculous, and wants to use those forces to make his world a better place. As such, learning magic is a major goal both IC and OOC. More mundanely useful magics like glyphing and shielding are likely to be the most iminent, but in the long-term will try and shift toward the lost disciplines of Dominion and Architectrix. Pathfinding would be interesting, but much lower priority; any development of knowledge on that fround would likely be incidental.

Glyphing
The most basic of magical skills, glyphing is something that Artigan will most certainly need and use if he is to pursue development as a world mage of any sort. His NPC mother would provide a good starting point through flashbacks, but because her skill is very basic Artigan would have to experiment on his own to gain any real expertise.

Thread Ideas:
  • Intro lesson from mother: how glyphs are used in alchemy
  • Intro lesson from mother: the basic components of a glyph
  • Combine glyphing and shielding to activate a shield remotely
  • Shield an item and see if it will enter a glyph
  • Combine glyphing and shielding to pull various pranks around the house
  • Try and fail to build an alchemy ring, complete with glyphs
  • Build a functional alchemy ring complete with glyphs

Shielding
Alongside glyphing, shielding is another very important basic skill – particularly on the part of a budding alchemist, who is exposed to castoff djed regularly.

Thread ideas:
  • Intro lesson from mother: why shielding is important in alchemy
  • Intro lesson from mother: how to form djed into a shield
  • Shield shoes against water, try to run on water. Sink.
  • Shield a cart against water
  • Ride the cart into a canal. Sink.
  • Find Ravosala frame and try making a boat out of shield magic
  • Put boat in canal, float ten feet, hit a wall and sink

Should probably make this "Shielding + Swimming."

Dominion
While taking equal priority to architectrix in the long-term, it seems a bit more logical for dominion to come first – chiefly because it has more IC establishment and I've yet to see any in-game occurrences of architectrix. It should go without saying that this will require heavy ST approval and collaboration, and there is no need to rush.

Thread ideas:
  • Gain lore about the basic existence of dominion

Mundane
Many skills are useful, and not all of them relate to magic. Artigan is very curious, yes, but he is also very creative, and creativity can manifest in many ways. In addition to creativity, he also enjoys tranquility and relaxation, and strives to build an environment for himself that can encompass all of these things.

Gadgeteering
Obviously.

Thread ideas:
  • Do his damn job threads.

Metalsmithing
While it's very useful to gadgeteering, I would particularly like to use it in regards to world magic. If Artigan can learn how to make his own alchemy ring, that will greatly decrease his reliance on others to work his magic.

Thread ideas:
  • Help a blacksmith make steel
  • Help a blacksmith make brass
  • Make his own gears
  • Make a small, 2ft-wide alchemy ring

Painting
Both practical and creative. Paints will likely be Artigan's favored form of glyphing, although he will resort to other means if he has no paint. But mostly he should just know how to paint in general, because painting is nice and I want him to know how.

Thread ideas:
  • (flashback) Little sister wants to paint her nightstand blue. Since she's too young to do it, Artigan has to.
  • Painting first glyphs with leftover paint
  • Painting siblings' faces just for fun
  • Steal sister's nightstand to paint clouds on it
  • Use glyphs and shielding to make a magical "trap" for a bird

Medicine
More of a result of his experiments than an active passion, I want Artigan to learn medicine simply due to its versatility as a skill. It would be nice for him to go on adventures, but he's unlikely to pick up combat skills unless forced to; with that in mind, being a medic could provide a good entry into more exciting plots. Also he's a tinkerer who does stupid things in the name of science, and needs to know how to patch himself up afterward.

Thread ideas:
  • Get injured as a child and ask questions of his doctor.
  • As a child, get another person in trouble and attempt to patch them up.
  • An experiment explodes, patch self up.
  • Another experiment explodes, patch bystander up.
  • Witness a random passerby injure themselves, provide basic first aid and help them to a doctor.
  • Buy a medical manual to study.

Artigan's Plotnotes

Postby Artigan Crowley on April 14th, 2017, 6:54 pm

Flashback Topics
As an extremely curious individual, Artigan's childhood naturally included a wide array of questions about the world around him. Many of these questions were poignant and vast, but the majority were really stupid and pointless. Here is a list of questions that can be explored via flashback.

Clouds
Question: What are clouds? Why are they sometimes flat on the bottom? Does the sky have an upper and lower half that clouds sit on? How do I study one?

Thread Ideas:
  • Try to shoot down a cloud with a crossbow
  • Climb to the highest point in the city, and then try to shoot down a cloud with a crossbow
  • Develop crossbow skills in the hope of eventually shooting down a cloud
  • Give up, try building a ballista to shoot down a cloud
  • Experiment with different ballista projectiles such as nets and ropes to try and shoot down a cloud
  • Give up, try building a trebuchet
  • Experiment with more trebuchet projectiles
  • Create giant spiked three-weighted net to try and capture a cloud
  • Give up and be angry at clouds for awhile

Gruntled
blah blah blah

Shielding
Question: If you magically shield a cart against becoming wet, will it move over the surface of water? Answer: no.

Thread ideas:
  • Shield shoes against water, try to run on water. Sink.
  • Shield a cart against water
  • Ride the cart into a canal. Sink.
  • Find Ravosala frame and try making a boat out of shield magic
  • Put boat in canal, float ten feet, hit a wall and sink

Should probably make this "Shielding + Swimming."

Future items to buy

General

House
While the compact nature of Ravok makes a large house impossible, even a small upgrade from an apartment would feel like heaven to Artigan. In terms of IC justification, perhaps see about Artigan buying his mentor's old house?

  • Simple animation lab (1875gm)
  • Simple gadgeteering workshop (600gm)
Total cost:
  • 2975gm

Library
Artigan likes books. Ergo, library.

Book list
  • A Mage Among Farmers (exquisite, agriculture+animal husbandry)
  • Lake Ravok On The Table (exquisite, cooking)
  • The City Man's Guide to Horses (exquisite, horsemanship + riding)

Magical Trinkets

Animation

Boat
Once Artigan works out the kinks on a manually-powered paddle boat, his next step will be to animate those paddles to spin on their own.

Bat Puppy
Create a bat-shaped automaton, imbue it with the personality of a puppy. Just see what happens, and if it succeeds, sell it.

Washing Golem
After creating a hand-operated rotating washing machine, get even lazier and enchant it to move on its own. Because gadgeteering is the art of fancy laziness.

Companion
Upon reaching competent in animation, create a wyvern-like golem about the size of a cat, fashioned after the creatures he once made with alchemy. Animate this golem with one prime desire: the ability to learn. Especially experiment with self-awareness and free will; allow and encourage this golem to explore the world and what it wants to know. So long as it stays out of the gear box.

Alchemy

Batbeasts
Artigan's first alchemy experiment, involving live creatures. Done in secret, it involves three components: a bat, a rat and a lizard.

Target: lizard
Fount: bat
Filter: rat

Result: a wyvern-type creature with two legs and two wings. This creature is small and only survives for half a season.

Glow flower
After grieving over his first creation, Artigan gets the courage to try alchemy again and does so with much less emotionally charged subjects: a rock, a flower and a chunk of opalgloam stone, bartered from a visiting Symenestra.

Target: live flower
Fount: opalgloam
Filter: equivalent-sized stone

Result: glowing properties of the opalgloam are transferred to the flower. Gift this to the Symenestra in gratitude for the opalgloam, and then it is revealed to mother that Artigan has begun practicing alchemy.

Magecraft

Tools
Basic practice. When allowed to learn magecraft, Artigan's first task is to create his own tools. Not very fancy, but it'll get some points.

Compass
Not sure when this will happen, but it should definitely be relevant to what's going on in Art's life. It is a compass that always points to a specific person. Perhaps given to a close friend taking a journey?

Item: compass
Steps: 1 behavioral
Reagant/catalyst: hair/blood of person it will be pointing to

Chicken
This is more of an experiment than anything, because Artigan is definitely the type to waste a thousand mizas on something like this. The question is, "Can I magecraft an egg to change the animal inside?" He will therefore have a chicken egg and will attempt to change the growing chick by increasing its intelligence.

Item: chicken egg
Steps: 1 intellectual

Prosthetic Nexus
A much more advanced, much more delicate item: this small cube will have no use by itself, but is bound to the user's willpower and can be installed in a mechanical limb built through animation. Once assembled, the user will have full control of this construct as if it were their own (although some practice may be required to make use of it.) While this method could effectively replace lost limbs, it could theoretically be used with new, strange ones, such as prosthetic wings, fins, wheels, etc. More tests are needed.

Item: small cube (any hard material will do)
Steps: 3 intellectual, 1 behavioral

In addition, each prosthetic will need a port for the nexus with an MC of 2 intellectual steps.
