14th of Spring - 517 AV
Darkness.
Blood.
Frigid air.
One wrong foot was all that it had taken. Her chest was rushing up and down like the hooves of a charging bull as her feet was carrying quickly along the streets. In pursuit, the guy. She had hoped to never see him again or much less literally stumble straight into him in the streets of Alvadas. Ionu’s prank this was, the biggest one. Ionu had to be looking on from somewhere, laughing like the madness that the god brought with it. She had been running for two entire streets now, her legs were screaming for her to stop running, the adrenaline pumping through her veins were telling her to go harder. It wasn’t good, she was sure to make a mistake. Her foot had caught the stone in the road wrong, it slid to the side just as she was in the middle of her stride. Upsetting her balance the way a single drop of water can do in a jug filled to the brim, it was the misstep that her pursuer had been waiting for. At first it did not seem like much, she took a step to correct the balance that had been taken from her but then she took another step and another, and another, her upper body slowly falling forwards. She was going to fall, nothing could stop it now. In a last attempt to correct her own failings, her hands flailing like that of small kids on the ice for the first time just before they fall. Nothing was going to help as she finally felt how her own body gave up to the forces of gravity, face first she was falling forwards.
There was not much time to think about what she might do, by reflexes, like that of a cat falling from a height, her hands were trying to catch her fall. As the fall was all but inevitable there were a few questions that came through her mind. Where was her pursuer? And would he manage to catch up before she would be able to sprint away? Her legs were numb at this point but her body was still pumping out adrenaline in copious amounts. The bow that she was carrying, had been hanging behind her back and so was the arrows, strung to the bow. As she came crashing into the stones of the street, the impact sent arrows spilling out onto the street as the world around Aenisa went dark. Panic settled in, she was on the ground, she wasn’t moving, her newly purchased bow and her arrows lay strewn around her like the legs of a spider. Aenisa shot forwards as she tried to start to collect her things again, she had to bring it with her, the arrows had gone everywhere on the lonely street. Aenisa had in her panicked little mind, forgotten about the pursuing man that had caused all of this and soon she was to regret that.
Like a hammer coming down onto the blade of a sword with force, so came the shoe of her pursuer down onto her back. The air was quickly sent flying back out of her and she found herself gasping for air, only to notice that her fall had opened several cuts along her arms and face. Blood was starting to trickle from her wounds, coating her in a deep red syrup. The man came down on top of her, fists dealing unmitigated and untold damage to her body through crushing blows along her upper body and stomach. Aenisa only felt the world slowly lose its colours before it went completely dark. Only thing that was still felt was Darkness, Blood and the Frigid air.
Earlier on the 14th of Spring.
It was still morning and the sun had not quite yet blessed the entire city with its glory, Aenisa decided that she would go for a walk after having first fed Ignacio. Young as she was, she still needed to be fed daily by Aenisa and it would be several more weeks before she would be able to fly by herself. Red meat was already being administered as a reward though, as Ignacio had started to explore her surrounding in the house that served as the mews as well. It was cheaper for the moment. Aenisa would probably need to buy a mews eventually for Ignacio but as the feathered bird wasn’t much of a flight risk now, it would do fine with the home. Perhaps she could put the mews at Yuri’s farm as well and take care of Ignacio as part of her daily routine at her job. Taking a few pieces of meat in her hand she stepped back into the other room where she had last seen the bird. It wasn’t much, she was going to have to buy better meat next time she went to the market, this wouldn’t last much more than a few more days. Ignacio was sitting at the foot of the bed and observing her nest’s surroundings as Aenisa walked back into the room, carrying the bird’s breakfast.
The already familiar sound, calling Ignacio to food was recognized by the young bird who jumped and walked over towards her owner. Aenisa put the food on the floor for the bird as she watched Ignacio down the pieces that she had been given. It was like they had been pieces of chocolate or other candy to the bird, one pieces, two and then four went and soon they were all gone. The bird was going to have to make it on its own today, Aenisa needed to be elsewhere for the day, she had business to attend to. Cutting up a few more pieces and scattering them around the house here and there, it would have to do, she would be back later anyways, at least this way the bird would explore the house and see it as a bit of a rewarding behaviour.
Locking the door, Aenisa soon emerged out onto the streets again and it seemed that Ionu had chosen to transport their home closer to the docks during the night. Salty air was flowing up the street with the carts and groups of people that came from the docks, sweeping the lower parts of the city like a gentle summer breeze. Still early in the morning, the sun having just broken through the clouds that the morning had offered. The sun was now starting to heat the streets up. Dew still sat on the rocks as Aenisa stepped into the streets and started to walk in the opposite direction of most the others.
She had been ordered by Yuri, the raptor keeper, outside of Alvadas to check out the docks and see if any jobs could be drummed up down there. It wasn’t as if the docks were void of jobs for a falconer but Yuri wasn’t sure if the rush of birds that were there during the summers had arrived yet. Aenisa guessed that Yuri was too busy at the farm to check for himself and so she had agreed to take on the job for him, one of these days she was sure to find herself closer to the docks thanks to the constant moving of the houses. Dodging moving carts and people moving up the street with baskets full of fish, bread, fruits and other assorted goods, Aenisa was making timely progress, heading in the other direction. As the smell of the salty sea-water grew ever stronger, the traffic too was growing thicker and soon it was almost impossible to move against the stream of people. Aenisa should have chosen a better time to come down to the docks, this was the rush hours for all merchants and their carriers, heading into the city.
