A private matter, huh? Disappointing, but not entirely unexpected. This one didn't seem to be the sharing type. The kind to hold people off at a distance at least at first. No telling just from this short interaction whether that would hold with people he'd known longer. Still, Rey could try to guess at the man's motivations.
Rey sorted through everything the man had revealed about himself. Looking to find out who he was, suggesting that he was here to be tested. Fearing not the dangers one faced in sunberth, but what it revealed in himself. The visceral reaction to Rey standing so openly in the street. The oddly placed mention of the daggerhands.
If Rey had to guess? It sounded like this one had lost his way in sunberth. Lost his humanity in the city of anarchy, perhaps running with one of the gangs. Rey hadn't spotted a dagger tattoo on him, but he might have been an aspirant who hadn't been recognized as a Brother yet. Or perhaps one of the night eyes. Truth be told, from his stature and weapons, Rey might have pegged him as a dragoon, if not for his inkless hands.
Rey had guessed wrong before, of course, and knew better than to take his half formed suspicions as fact. Still, Rey thought he had a fairly good read on the man.
When Alex spoke again, Rey looked up, and listened carefully. He was right, there was a whistling noise. He shivered slightly, reminded of the deadly sandstorms that ravaged the desert of his childhood. But no, they weren't anywhere near the desert.
"I hear it." Rey frowned, listening for the source of the sound. Gesturing for Alex to follow, Rey made his way through the city, following the sound of the wind, until they emerged onto a sandy beach. The lake that made up the psuedo suvan glinted in the sunlight, and along the coast, a few chime's walk away, where Alvadas should have been, was a maelstrom of concerningly large size. Funny, it looked almost like a sandstorm, despite being right next to the water. The shape, the color everything was right. Only, instead of tearing a path through the city, it held still, wobbling at the top, but fixed to one location.
Rey and Alex weren't the only ones watching it. A throng of people surrounded the storm, hovering a safe distance away. As the watched, one brave, or foolish soul stepped forwards, and was engulfed. A murmur rose through the crowd, but no one seemed particularly concerned about it.
"Well. Ionu hass been bussy." Rey mumbled. Curious, he drew closer to the crowd, stepping lightly to keep from interrupting. One snatch of conversation caught his ear.
"-ther's cousin went in, so I've heard. Won't talk about what she saw, but my mum say's she's been happier."
Rey raised an eyebrow, and turned to Alex, shaking his head.
"A ssandsstorm one could enter, and come out happier? If thiss were anywhere but Alvadass...."
