Nianda Bromeliad
✨Appearance✨
Race: Symenestra
Gender: Female
Age: 25
Birthday:26th, Spring, 492 AV
Birthplace: Kalinor
Appearance: Nianda's skin color matches the normal ashen color her race is known for, although it's a shade darker than the majority of her family. This darkness does little to conceal the peering gray veins beneath the surface. Her hair is silver at it's root, a nearly bright silver. The flowing strands darken near their tips, but maintain the silver color, never quite becoming gray or black. The large pupils of her eyes are surrounded by a dark shade of amethyst. Long black nails sharply tip her fingers.
✨Character Concept✨
Personality - Nianda is a rather stand-offish individual. Although she is unlikely to approach someone, she is surprisingly accommodating if you approach her. A person that will protect those she cares for with everything that she has, but makes that circle exceptionally difficult to find yourself within. She is distrustful of everyone at first glance. She has been taught that most societies will view her race as a threat and that she should take all compliments and insults with a grain of salt. Although she attempts to maintain a stone-set face, she has a set of predictable ticks that easily reveal her emotions beneath that attempted mask. This tends to lead to her being underestimated. Such underestimation can occasionally be manipulated into an advantage for her, and should be avoided.
Ethics – She values relationships and trust over most other things. She believes that people should be granted free will and has contradicting feelings about the Harvest. Deeming it a necessary price to preserve her people, but a twisted act in practice. She dislikes slavery and despises people who treat others. Particularly those that have found themselves worse off, poorly. She believes violence is a necessity, and can even relish in pain of those that have wronged her. Opposing that viewpoint is the belief that violence should have a purpose. When exposed to those that relish in mindless cruelty she has a difficult time concealing the anger that begins to boil.
Likes – She adores the standards and cultural beauty of Kalinor. She hopes to share the beauty of the mostly secluded Symenestra culture with those that she encounters, although her weaving skills are still somewhat unpracticed. On top of her love for dark beauty, she has a strong appreciation for intellect and knowledge, and is in a nearly constant pursuit to learn more of the people, places, and things that she has encountered.
Dislikes – Nianda despises those who abuse a possession of power, especially one that they didn't have to earn through some form of trial. As mentioned already, she also dislikes excessive and unnecessary violence. Everything should have a purpose. Most of all, she doesn't like being in a powerless position, paranoia and panic can quickly set in if left helpless.
✨Character History✨
Nianda was born of a Symenestra Father and an Inarta Mother surrogate. Her mother died in child birth, as most surrogate mothers do, and she was adopted by the father's wife. She lived a rather easy life within her web. The life of a female within Symenestra culture is rather straight-forward when your web is so far away from the hub of Kalinor. She was to learn weaving from a young age, and she picked up the practice as best she could. She was decent at it, but found herself easily distracted by the toils of the scholars that lived nearby. She was exceptionally drawn to the study of poisons. Her father allowed her to satiate this urge, but seemed to keep a close eye over her studies. He seemed to be guiding her studies towards more dangerous poisons. His motives were unclear, but he pushed her to be able to apply the poisons herself. He simulated events when she would have to get a false substance into the drink, food, or body of a target somewhere around the city. Then he would grade her performance. She excelled at this, and found that, once she came to be a young woman, the use of her femininity was a keen weapon to be used to find her way around people who noticed her odd activities. Nianda was never told whether the targets had been notified prior to her father's assignments, but with how they reacted to her proposals, she doubted it. Between her studies, weaving, and these unique assignments from her father, the time flew by. Quickly her oldest brother had left to go on his first harvest, he brought back a surrogate for himself, as well as a large host of interesting stories. It was these stories that Nianda clung to, and would make him tell her again and again. These stories of the harvest plagued Nianda's dream, but rarely in a negative way. Instead she imagined the world beyond the caves, and the cities there. Filled with people that lived fulfilling lives, and who had these overwhelming stores of knowledge. A few years passed and it was coming time for her marry off to another family. Once a surrogate was found for her would-be mate she would be a mother as well. The man that had asked for her hand was a loving and kind man, but it wasn't the life that she wanted to live. She convinced her parents, as well as his, to allow her to go on a Gleaning before she settled into her new life. She couldn't bring herself to settle into a family life before ever being able to experience the things her brothers told her of. Her first stop was Alvados, which is where she rests now. It's been years since she left, four to be exact, and she still has little urge to return home to her betrothed. She's acquired a home and quite a sum of money in the past few years, and has little urge to head back. There remains a lingering fear that her family will chase her down and drag her back to Kalinor, but she manages to push it aside and forget about it most days. She's not sure she'd ever be ready for that, but that's definitely not the life that she sees for herself today.
Her time in Alvadas has been exceptionally light-hearted. But even with her constant exploration of the city and it's contents, she continued to found herself among the docks. The Patchwork Port became somewhat of a home for her. Although it isn't quite in the city proper, she adored watching the slew of new arrivals pour in each day. A spread of differing races, and abstract faces. It was among these faces that she met a few Svefra, who told her of their stories. Among those Svefra were some excellent storytellers, which successfully enthralled Nianda with stories of places and things she hadn't ever imagined. Through these interactions she picked up on pieces of the language that they spoke amongst themselves, although she never was taught any of it directly.
