Greetings. Salutations.
Have a glass of fruit punch, it's delicious and I think you'll have time to enjoy some refreshment while I catch everyone up on what's been going on, what's about to happen and direction of things to come.
First, I want to thank Kayak for all of his hard work and creativity. He's a bit of a chucklehead sometimes but he's our chucklehead and we love him. Kudos, bruddah and keep up the good work.
Next, I want to touch on some of the obvious things. Ravok's forum is getting a makeover. The Docks forum was never really used properly so after discussing it with Kayak, we're going to utilize this space for all of our OOC stuff; this thread, requests, development, etc, etc, etc. All IC posts will now go in the main forum regardless of where they fall in Ravok; be it the city, the lakeshore, the docks or the northern outpost.
The calendar is up. It's chocked full of goodies and plots. I do want to add -since some people think I am just an evil, manipulative bastard- that any time we offer goodies to your PC, it is a gift and not a curse. We will not, as mods, trick you into anything that might damage your PC or get them killed. Now, that's not to say you won't be cursed in a thread where there are chaons present or be roughed up and possibly kidnapped by the Black Sun based upon a misunderstanding or your lack of personal hygiene. This is Ravok...shyke happens. I just want everyone to understand that we develop these little plots and trinkets to add to your roleplay experience. If fear was all we were after, we'd be in Sunberth.
This is Ravok... we are luxurious, educated and better than everyone else. That means our PCs need to have better stuff, na mean?
Moving on. I am slowly working my way through old moderation requests and will begin some of the events soonish. I know Yak has already begun his string of happy fun times so make sure you guys get signed up for the stuff you want. If you're on the fence, shoot one of us a PM and we'll help you figure it out or at the very least, it gives you an 'in' should you miss the deadline. Also, if you have not applied for a job or are waiting for a PM response from me in regards to such things, let me know. My inbox will have no messages for a week and then I'll get twelve while I'm at work. Odds are that I will miss one here and there so don't feel like you're bothering me. I'm here to help you write luscious stories so make sure I'm doing my job, yeah? (Feel free to spam Kayak with meaningless PMs. He loves to sort through nonsense.)
Kayak is spearheading an operation to upgrade a location via player participation. We're both very excited about this and nearly done with the actual development of the system which will be used to simplify the whole she-bang. Please keep your eyes peeled for more as we barrel down on the last few bits of detail.
I'm one guy. Kayak is one Canadian. We have our preferences for how things look, how they should be laid out and what works best. That doesn't mean we're the only ones who matter. It is in this manner of thinking in which I'm going to start a discussion thread for the Codex. There's a lot.... A LOT.... of information in that thing. What else could be added? What else should be added? Is it legible? Is it easy to navigate? Is there a better way? Should the linkmap be separate? Is there a particular article that needs to be edited/reworked completely? Should there be a separate PC library? These are questions that all of us should be able to address and answer if we choose. My ultimate goal is to have something that's simple, functional and accurate so that anyone -new or old- can come in and find exactly what they need without too much fuss. I still receive a good deal of inquiries about things that are listed in the Codex so I know it's not perfect. Let's make it better, gang.
In conjunction with the Codex Discussion thread, I will be opening up a Q&A thread. If I know the answer, I'll post it right away... if not, I'll get in touch with the people who know more than I do and find the answer. I even have a nifty idea on how to catalog everything so it's easier to see what other people have asked. That being said, none of this is going to be instantaneous-overnight-fixed-the-problem work.
There are new locations being developed. New plots are being shaped all of the time. If you have ideas for these things, we're going to figure out a way to have a more organized system of entry for these things than just info dumps. Those types of threads never really see much attention. My current theory is that we treat it much like the WD forum where a player takes his or her idea and writes it up in its own thread here in the OOC forum. All edits, discussions and revisions can be handled in that thread then when it's done, the STs can give it a look for a final nod. Thoughts? I would also like to have some kind of artwork thread for sharing images since Ravok is so unqiue, there's likely times when one stumbles upon a depiction that isn't what is being sought but could still be useful. Since Rhysol hears all prayers...we, as STs, should as well. I had a notion (if it would be used) to make a thread where players could link any prayers they posted in the Divine Connections forum. If you've not browsed this gem of Mizahar, I suggest you do so. It's a pretty awesome tool for your PC.
There's been talk about a thread to honor your fellow Ravokians. Did you read a post that gave you the chills? Has one PC absolutely caught your attention this season? We could put these things in the general OOC thread but do any of you think this could use its own space? What about a Wish List thread? Did I miss anything? If we get more players, maybe we make a thread just for members of the Ebonstryfe and Black Sun where you can hash out plots together and we can keep a running list of active writers.
If you can't tell, I am excited for the direction that Ravok is headed. We have great writers, a good set of mods and a wonderful site to use as our playground. The ultimate goal is to make a place that people wish to call home for their crazy, wild, silly, dark, sexy or just plain awesome thoughts. We want to know what you think. I'm not saying we're going to reinvent the wheel but I know everyone one of you who reads this will have at least one idea that you think will help make Ravok better and I want to hear it.
That is all.
