Character Concept
Gale/Matias is a tall and strong man, standing 7" and quite muscular, compared to other Akalaks, he's not very impressive, but he is physically fit and strong. Gale/Matias wasn't taught much growing up, instead he was mostly used as a physical labor slave when growing up and around 15-20 years old, was a fighter in Sunbirth's slave fighting pits.
Because of this, Matias isn't the brightest and generally very violent. Matias is loud, brash, angry and generally doesn't like anyone or anything, his wild violent nature made him a crowd favorite during his battles and he relished at the attention and praise.
His brother Gale, takes on a more tactical approach to fighting, keeping distance, gauging enemy's skills and weakness and adjusting during the fight. He's also more level headed, calm and much stronger willed than Matias, because of this Gale took over as the dominant brother when he emerged.
Despite Gale's calm nature, he is by no means a saint, while Matias would kill quickly, Gale would make sure they suffer and die slowly, Gale is not without emotion and is very slow to anger, if one were to earn Gale's trust, they'd have a very loyal and level-headed friend.
Even though Gale is generally smarter than Matias, he still has no formal education, and had only recently masterd how to read, write, and basic maths. Matias had never learned or bothered to care about these skills.
Gale's goal is to find purpose, a meaning to his existence, and he believes that answer lies in Riverfall
Matias also wants to head to Riverfall, but instead of seeking enlightenment and purpose, he seeks a way to remove Gale from his mind, body and soul.
Character History
Born in Sunberth as slave, his mother was a Kelvic that despised him and only nurtured him because of her master's orders. Of course violent Akalak children were known to be dangerous, Matias ended up murdering his own mother.
His time as a slave was uneventful, he was abused and neglected, but found himself in a position of power because of his strength. For most of his childhood, he was tasked with jobs along with other larger and stronger slaves, a miner, a lumberjack, and anything that required physical strength.
One day, a guard hired by his master had made the boy snap. Despite knowing the repercussions, he lunged at the guard, and smashed his head in, killing him. This led to two other guards coming in, but now Matias had a weapon from his recently murdered victim.
Matias never had any weapons training but his wild and powerful swings overpowered the two guards and he slaughtered them, eventually he was subdued by more and more guards.
His master, instead of punishing the boy, forced him to fight in the pits, a place where Matias took out his anger, and he loved it.
Around his 20s, Matias' other half emerged, during a fight no less, despite the momentary distraction, Matias won, but the second voice left Matias shaken. Each fight, Matias was getting sloppier, weaker, as Gale started getting more dominant.
Eventually, the master decided to just sell off Matias to a closet-mage, Alya'ria's uncle, Grieg.
Gale had taken over at this point and was suppressing Matias as much as he could, Grieg may have been a mage and experimented on his slaves, but he was fair and relatively kind one. Gale looked up to Grieg and while slaves came and go, Gale stayed with Grieg for almost 30 years, he wasn't up for sale and was Grieg's personal "slave", although he was treated more as a useful son than a slave.
He met Aly, during his time with Grieg and he hated that "self-righteous shyke-stain" of a Konti, but could do nothing to her, despite his relatively high status in the pecking order, he was still a slave and Aly was the master's niece.
When Grieg was found to be a mage, he did something that confused Gale immensely, Grieg set him free, an act of kindness that Gale couldn't fathom, but Grieg did ask for one favor to Gale, and that was to protect Aly, and Gale couldn't ignore the pleas of the only person that had shown him any kindness, so he did just that.
He had been following Aly, watching as she tried to "continue her uncle's work" fruitlessly, she was a terrible master, she may act high and mighty, but the slaves she had neither feared her nor respected her, and Gale did nothing to help until she figured out she was not meant to be a slaver.
He hated Aly for ratting out Grieg and would like nothing more than to kill her, something both the brothers agree to, but both the brothers also agree that they couldn't break their promise, at least not until they felt like they have paid back their debt.
He suggested to go to RF, but it seemed Aly was set on going to Ravok, and he couldn't bring himself to leave her alone, she could barely keep slaves, let alone survive by herself, Gale had to admit he wasn't the most street smart or had the most common sense, but he was strong, Aly might have been able to use her cutesy fake persona to fool people, but he doubted that facade would work on bandits in the woods, wolves, or other such nasties out there.
