A lawless town of anarchists, built on the ruins of an ancient mining city. [Lore]

Kreig chuckled a little bit more, pretending to think it over than waving it off with slight exaggeration “Nah, would be far too cruel to wave ya off after all the trouble” And in all honestly he’d feel much better if he could at least help the lad last a little bit better.
“Anyway, I just wanted to know because ya see the words I’ve for you won’t really look unless you’re quick enough” He then waved his hand forward up and down gesturing at the lads body “Well I’d like to have the words to put it kindly, thing is you are small lad. Small, thin, and not much muscle” Not to mention only having one good eye but that went unsaid “Unless you want to stick with me for days upon days upon days” Which was a petching lot of days, Kreig felt and thus a major commitment “I’m not sure I can help to change that” He then raised one finger in a bit of a dramatic fashion, the ‘but’ in the whole ordeal.
“But if you’ve got the legs, that means you’ve got a way of survival. You said you do a lot of running, so I’m guessing part of that running involves ‘away’ rather than to?” He asked in a way that really didn’t feel like he was asking, but simply a way for him to move onto his point.
“If that’s the case, then in this town you’re also running past stuff. And there is a lot of stuff in this city” Broken, rotten, useless stuff that could be also made useful in other ways. He turned to look at the sea of people, tables, chairs and other assorted items.
“Tell me, what do you see here? Then tell me what you can do it to help you keep running” Kreig himself already had a lot of things he could think of if he were put into the runner’s shoes. Lots and lots of things, but he’d keep those to himself for the moment.
After all, he was the one to ask the question. What good would it if her to answer it for him? |

Kreig was certainly a jolly fellow. Maybe that's why he was considered nuts. Such a seemingly brutal and blood thirsty beast wasn't who you expected to have a reasonable conversation.
As expected Kreig listed off the various weaknesses that applied to Dresden. He understood everything single word. He was a walking target after all. What he didn't get was that he didn't mention his eye. He pondered on it for a moment but disregarded it rather quickly, being thankful he didn't mention his eye. "No need to tell me what i already know. I'm a bottom feeder 'an i'm well aware of that." He said with a wiry smile.
He tilted his head slightly curious about what he was trying to get at. "A lot of running away but you've already guessed that. Occasional i go to places. Running can be... refreshing." He explained.
Dresden now understood what Kreig was trying to do. Dresden knew all to well that anything and everything was useful in it's own way. Tools, weapons, methods of escape amongst various other things that could be found if you took a moment to look.
He immediately looked around the bar with his singular working eye shuffling on his seat in order to get a better view of his surroundings. "Plenty of things." He said. "Distractions perhaps. Tables and chairs to curve around. Mugs to chuck and drunkards to set off. A clear path too. A straight shot out of danger. Enough people to disappear in too. It isn't too hard to slip past when your as small and skinny as i am." He kept running ideas through his head trying to notice as much as he could. "I might only see with one eye, but you only need one to notice a lot."

Kreig nodded, the boy had a good idea and his way of thinking was running the same lane of thought as Kreig’s was “ ‘Bout right, if you ever had to run from here you got yourself with enough tools to do the job.” He nodded in satisfaction “Point is wherever you go, keep your eye open an’ catch a glimpse of everything you can”
For Kreig it was mainly a brawler philosophy or tactic however wanted to categorize it, whatever his fists couldn’t do either in terms of power or reach then he had to rely on something else to get the edge he need. It was common Sunberth knowledge really but not many practiced, relying on weapons and numbers for the protection needed more often than not.
This bit of knowledge ulitamately could be applied to other venues of life, and for the young lad before Kreig its importance was on escape. He pasued a bit, thinking for a bit then giving the lad a bit of a sheepish look “Uh, but if you ever do need to get yer feet runnin’ out of here. Try an’ not to break anything” He tilted his head back, using it to point at Merv who was busy attending to other guests on the other end of the bar.
“Otherwise Merv will tan your hide an’ behind him the entire tavern” After absconding with that bit of advice, he turned serious again.
“ ‘course you can’t always run kid, there’ll be times where fate’ll just put you on the spot and you ain’t even got the choice to surrender” Unless surrender led to slavery, and no proper child of Sunberth wanted a collar on their neck. He waved his hands at the crowd again “Which jus’ emphasizes my point, you got yourself a treasure trove of weapons on the spot, so if you can learn to take advantage of ‘em along with that tiny size an’ some speed than all the better really”
There was unspoked butt there though, so waving his finger about again and pointed towards the boy’s fist “Buuuut it wouldn’t really hurt to know how to use your fists or a weapon, probably a long dagger” He said bluntly but not unkindly “If you’ve got the eyes to know what to use to your advantage, than a young feller like you has the eyes to know where to hit.” He then moved finger to parts of his own body “Eyes, neck, chin, and groin are obvious. Hit em’ right an’ they’ll go blind, have their breathin’ disrupted, jostle their brain a bit, and I don’t need to explain the last bit. Point is anyone of those targets when hit will give someone like you a chance to finish the fight as fast as it starts, or give you that opportunity to run you otherwise wouldn’t have.”
He rested his arm on the table then, head against the palm as he continued rattling on more things “A weapon like a dagger or a blade could give you even more targets if you aren’t afraid to spill blood or kill” Kreig said casually, as casually as one would drink ale but there was a bit of a flicker of distaste on his face at the thought of it “Cut or stab in the right place fast enough than other folk’ll be wary about coming after ya, makin’ more distance. One thing to go after a weak lookin’ thing like you, another to chase somethin’ that can bite back”
He then shrugged his other shoulder “I think that’s sums the thing or two you wanted” |

"Seems like i've gotten it right." He said sarcastically following it up with a quiet chuckle. The people in Sunberth who knew how it worked in the chaotic streets and slums often came out with the same if not similar answers to such questions.
This rat of Sunberth could see clear as day why Kreig would be called the son of Sunberth. He could tell easily that he was born and raised in the same alleys and streets as Dresden himself was even if their upbringings were different. You could easily tell where someone came from in Sunberth. Though it wasn't always correct Dresden thought the Quarters produced some of the most notable people in Sunberth. After all when you're at the bottom the only place to go is up.
He briefly glanced at Merv and nodded. "I see." Merv didn't sound like the most reasonable person to interact with. That was saying something when you felt more comfortable talking to a blood thirsty brawler than a bar tender. "I judge that you know the man well then."
Dresden listened closely to his words when he mentioned that he couldn't always run. That was why he came looking for him after all. The slum dwelling child already knew that the day was going to come when he'd be pinned into a corner. What Kreig said was true, and due to that it unsettled Dresden. When was the day going to come when he'd have to fight back and more importantly would he be able to?
It really wouldn't hurt to know how to use a weapon like a dagger or his fists. Well it wouldn't hurt him anyway. It seemed so simplistic but Dresden knew that it was never as simple as just slashing or stabbing in a fight the majority of the time. If he were to learn to fight he would have to stick to his strengths. Those being his size, nimbleness and wit. He gave himself a little hope. Maybe he could stand a chance.
He picked up on Kreig's feelings about the use of daggers almost instantly. It made sense to him why the brawler wouldn't like the use of weaponry. But he did describe himself as blood thirsty. Did he just prefer the feeling of beating people to a pulp rather than using a tool? Was it more enjoyable that way? He decided to ask man.
"That sums it up, thank you. Now not to bore you but I've got a question. What's wrong with knives?"

The way the question was phrased made Kreig wonder if he meant if he meant why did Kreig didn’t like knives instead of what is wrong with using Knives. If it were the latter Kreig would have answered that nothing was wrong with knives.
It was simply that knives more often than not were meant to be tools rather weaponry whereas daggers were almost always weapons. The weapons were mostly interchangeable and merely differed in size though even that varied.
So he went with assuming the former which was that Kreig himself didn’t like knives. And it would have been a good question, except Kreig didn’t hate knives and in extension he didn’t hate weaponry. So Kreig quirked his brow and scratched the side of his head.
In truth Kreig’s bloodthirstiness was limited to the joy of the fight itself, not the actual killing itself. He wasn’t sure if he could voice this really, at least not in the company so many people lest he wanted them to know that the so called son with a love of violence isn’t as violence addicted as they thought, as it would have put a chink in his armor.
“I ain’t got nothing ‘gainst knives, or for any weaponry really” He answered sincerely, giving the lad a shrug of his shoulders “I’m jus’ way better with my fists than I am with somethin’ like a knife or dagger” he was decent with a longsword or crossbow however, though that’s an ace he would keep up his sleeve.
That reminded him that he needed to brush up on those, but now was not the time to dwell.
“It’d be like a tailor to use a hammer instead of a needle and thread” He answered simply, hoping the lad would accept that answer than pry here, he really really didn’t want to have snap at the kid. |

Dresden waited for a response yet again to another one of his questions that he barraged Kreig with. He didn't mean to push his luck in anyway. He couldn't help it. There were so many questions he wanted to ask. Far too many questions.
Dresden didn't know how it felt to fight himself so he was very curious as to how people actually viewed it. He didn't understand how enjoyable it was to some people, how exciting it was to do harm onto others. It wasn't because his morals made him look down upon it though. More or less it was because he had never properly fought before. It seemed far too complex to imagine without any prior experience.
Maybe he'd go watch a fight one day.
He shook his head and smiled. He was over complicating things. He asked and question and that was it. Sometimes he over thought things and it entertained him vaguely when it did.
He nodded in understanding. It was very common for people to have preferences for almost everything and the fact the brawler in front of him used his fists over weapons only confirmed this. It made enough sense. He must've known how to use a weapon of some sorts though. But he had a feeling he'd questioned the man enough already.
"Of course, good analogy." He replied simply looking up at him with a bland expression on his face. [/frame2]

Kreig withheld a breath of relief, that was one secret that he’d not let out the bag. He looked at the lad again and pondered if the advice he’d gave would truly be of use. He mostly had no doubt; he was a smart lad after all even if he didn’t seem to think his actions through. But part of Kreig could not help but worry, whether the lad knew it or not, Kreig’s advice sort of made the lad his responsibility in a way. Oh he wasn’t his teacher or anything like that, but if the kid died trying to following it and it failed him? Well… Kreig hoped to not have another regret pile upon his conscious.
He already had plenty, some he’d only returned, some he’d left behind in other towns. Many that had him question his own worth as a human being sometimes. Yes, it would be nice to know he was actually helpful to a soul that needed it rather than be useless on his rear again. He lifted his empty mug, looking into it briefly before his stomach growled.
Huh, well it was lunchtime and he’d yet have a nibble. Kreig chuckled then looked at the lad; he might have another good deed in him yet, considering what a skinny little thing the boy was. Raising his mug he called out to Merv “Hey Merv, how ‘bout two plates of food here for me an’ the lad? And another mug of ale?”
Kreig might not have been able to given the boy more words of advice, but at the very least he could give him something to eat.
Yup, at least he could do one more thing
