Follow Your Nose, written by Asterope and Roland Eir.
There is nothing more pleasant than reading a thread where two great writers come together, and this thread is just that. A thread full of intrigue and investigation, this read has left me excited and almost desperate to continue with this mystery so beautifully set out.
I am a sucker for murder mysteries, so perhaps I may be biased, but I loved the way the two writers pulled a seasonal challenge and illusion into finding a dead body. Both writers are refreshing reads, with beautiful writing, which only sweetens the enjoyment I had while reading this thread.
At the beginning, it is hard to tell what to expect. Two strangers, brought together by a strange smell, seem to simply be enjoying a stroll through a hedge maze. But quickly enough, the thread escalates and Roland's discomfort becomes real when they stumble across a dead body at the centre. From there, my interest could not be sated and it was impossible to not keep reading.
Roland and Asterope work well to demonstrate their characters contrasting reactions to seeing a dead body without holding the story back with their conflicting views. What drew me to this thread was this contrast between respect and disinterest, professional responsibility and an interest in self-preservation. And every discovery seems to come naturally, pushed by the character's own motives rather than the simple need to tell a story. The writer's ability to do this made the whole thread that much better.
And with that cliffhanger at the end, you'll be searching for the second part in no time, too!
