Built into the cliffs overlooking the Suvan Sea, Riverfall resides on the edge of grasslands of Cyphrus where the Bluevein River plunges off the plain and cascades down to the inland sea below. Home of the Akalak, Riverfall is a self-supporting city populated by devoted warriors. [Riverfall Codex]

[Riverfall] The Land and Sea Gates

Postby Taren Coballon on July 15th, 2018, 2:58 am

Taren strides across the sea of grass in an easy gait that passes the distances quickly with his long legs. The sun is starting to shimmer as it drops lower in the sky and he is heading home to Riverfall. Taren has been out exploring the sea while he had a chance and was enjoying the quieter time away from the city he was born in. The sea is quieter and less intrusive on his musings therefore he finds himself out in the Sea more frequently than ever. Today he is returning to the city after three days in the Sea and he was feeling well and had found some game to bring home along with a few vegetables he stumbled across in his wanderings. He ate a few of them this morning at breakfast, however he still had a few to take home as well and he planned to go to his family’s house for lunch with his fresh finds.

As Taren approaches the ferry he is motioned onto it with a “Welcome to give a hand” from a couple of travellers that are likely traders so he lends his strength to the chain to pull across the river, he enjoyed the bit of exercise it gave him. Besides a simple grunt to the travellers, he says nothing but notes neither seem overly interested in him either but none the less he does keep his distance from them and steps off when it reaches the other bank to leave them with their packs. A simple nod in their direction was all he gave them except his strength on chains.

As he approaches the gates of Riverfall, he walks past the other travellers waiting to get into the city. Standing a good foot or more taller than most any of the travellers, and not to mention being an armed Akalak with a scowl on his face simply stalls any and all complaints coming from them. Although wanting to directly enter the city, he talks himself into waiting for the guard to wave him on, but still stands there fidgeting while he waits.

When the guard is done and notices Taren, he waves him thru. Noticing Taren’s kills he says “Looks like you were successful this time!” in almost cheerful tone.

Not wanting even to talk, Taren grumbles “Just 2, not that it should matter to you” and continues into the city towards his family’s home. Avoiding any further talk with the guards.

[Riverfall] The Land and Sea Gates

1st Evening of Fall 520 A.V

The only things keeping her wide awake, were the already cold autumn breeze and the sound of her Strider's hooves. Each step heavier than the one before, she felt as if her journey would never end, yet the idea of riding forward seemed dangerous, as it would probably mean fer falling asleep on her Strider's back, due to exhaustion. The first sign that awoke hope within her, was a faint sound of what she could only describe as commotion, similar to the one she'd hear from the camp, upon returning.
Soon enough, her eyes could see where the noise was coming from.

There it was. Riverfall. In all it's mighty glory. Though exhausted and about ready to fall asleep, she could not but stop and gaze upon the city's walls, the towers and lights coming from within it. It was more than beautiful. She was never too good with words, which might be why she was struggling to put her thoughts in order. Instead, she just stood and admired, with a quiet gasp escaping her every once in a while.

Unsure of how much time had passed, her admiration was interrupted by an even chillier gust of wind. Forcing her to continue her walk, inching closer to her destination with every tick. A yawn she could not control, seemed to be enough of a stimuli for her to pick up the pace, into what one would consider a jog.

Heavy breathing, resembling almost panting like sounds, might have been proof that the choice she had previously made wasn't a smart one. Her eyes set upon the city guards, as she mumbled to herself and dragged the bag off her shoulder, stepping close enough for them to speak and hand her a piece of paper.

Petching... heavy.... thing... I apologize, it's been a long journey and I am in dire need of something to drink and rest. Thank you for your warm welcome

She nodded, smiled and walked by the city gates, instructing her Strider to remain outside. It pained her to not be able to soak in every bit of it. Her thirst and still heavy chest, however, proved to be more important, as she stumbled around, looking for The Cora Apartments area. She knew the city layout, she was even shown a map before, but with how tired she was, the map the guards provided came in quite handy. Finally, it was time to rest, exploring could wait, after all, she had all the time in the world to do just that.

[Riverfall] The Land and Sea Gates

Postby Finron Pitrius on October 13th, 2020, 12:28 am

09 FALL, 520 AV — It was nearing sunset; the sky was yellow, speckled with crimson. Finron was perched atop of Enris, enjoying the cool breeze that swept over the plains. He gave his steed a pet alongside her flank, his gaze fixated on the massive wall looming just up ahead. It was imposing and fierce - unlike anything he had ever seen. He'd been on the road for just about three days, now; he was more than eager to reach the city. A real bed sounded pleasant - even if it was the stiff, old kind that were usually offered at inns.

"Tch - I've gone soft," the Isur murmured to himself, his lips twitching into a partial smirk. To think that just a handful of years ago, when he'd been a teenager, he had spent months alone in the harsh wilderness of the Kitrian Mountains. Not that he'd ever wish to go back.

The sun continued to sink lower as Finron neared the gate. He did a once-over of the two guards; tall, imposing figures. Just like the wall that they protected. They seemed friendly enough, though. He offered a nod in greeting and took the scroll, turning it over front and back before tucking it into his satchel. "Appreciate it. I won't cause any trouble, promise." And just like that, the gate rumbled open.

Finron flicked Enris' reins and ushered her inside the city's borders. Upon doing so, his breath hitched in his throat; Riverfall was... beautiful. There didn't seem to be a piece of trash or a speck of dirt in sight. The domed rooftops of the rising city glistened in the evening sun. He'd never been to such a perfect place.

Drawing in a slow breath, Fin tore his eyes from the beautiful scene and pored back over the scroll. "Guess I should find an inn now," he mused to himself.
