The Diamond of Kalea is located on Kalea's extreme west coast and called as such because its completely made of a crystalline substance called Skyglass. Home of the Alvina of the Stars, cultural mecca of knowledge seekers, and rife with Ethaefal, this remote city shimmers with its own unique light.

Late noon

Late noon was upon Lhavit, sunbeams bathing the entirety of the city of glass a rich gold, cutting through the unusual fog that decorated the city. Even in strange weather, the Gem of Kalea continues to shine, glorious and magnificent as ever. Amidst the many denizens scuttling about walked an outlander, ambling towards a very specific studio apartment, basking in Syna’s divine light as he went along. In a few more bells was due to rise.

Meeting Raeyn seemed to have put a wrench in Haneht’s plans of avoiding Mara whenever he could. Restless mind was unable to erase the memory of the gorgeous, flame-haired man from the Zintia Rest, gold and white tunic resplendent against beautiful patchwork skin. Sky blue eyes, oceans of wisdom and emotion, framed by snowy lashes. Streaks of white lacing his magnificent red mane. Effortless beauty that even his seemingly permanent scowl and unfriendly demeanour had failed to conceal, only dulled by the exhaustion he carried. Last they’d met, Raeyn had looked remarkably close to keeling over, exhaustion clear as day in the rings beneath his eyes. A little on the edge, too, but he’d been unsure if that was a normality for him. In the end, temptation got the better of Haneht and eventually led to him seeking Mara in hopes of locating his irrisistably pulchritudinous hunter. Who, by the by, had turned out to be Mara’s twin, and had been worrying her with his recent unusual behaviour and directed Haneht to him, strangely eager and pleased with Haneht’s interest in Raeyn.

Granted, he may or may not have exaggerated their relationship.

It was only after they had parted ways, and perhaps with a little retracing on his part, that the Eypharian vaguely remembered the events that had transpired on the evening, and subsequently night, of the Shooting Star Inn’s yearly summer banquet, and its attendees. The Inarta flock - he snickered, pitiful attempt at humour still vivid in his memory - that he had pranced over to merrily and nearly fell flat on his face in front of; Raeyn had been a part of it. Albeit a little drunk, but Haneht had been anything but sober himself. It made plenty sense now, why he hadn’t been able to remember the striking Inarta hunter from the banquet. Still, it was proving fairly difficult to associate the night’s quiet, mild-mannered banquet attendee with the seemingly foul-tempered man who’d threatened to pepper him with arrows. Haneht would’ve thought them twins instead of the same person had he not run into Raeyn weeks later, at the Divine’s Gateway in a free lesson on Wild Djed.

Wild Djed that, though Haneht knew little of, was fairly sure were the reasons for the dark, violent thoughts that had emerged in him as of late, sweet temptations that once, long ago, had roamed the depths of Haneht’s mindscape. It was a bit perplexing, frustrating even, when one couldn’t truly tell if such thoughts were truly their own or merely from overexposure to Wild Djed. Made him want to wrap his fingers around someone’s throat. Perhaps Mara’s, for the audacity to welcome him into her Inn so warmly, the maddening resemblance she bore to Haneht’s sister, his sister, his beautiful, radiant Ahnouk. Sometimes, it felt as though Mara was trying to replace her, trying to take up the mantle of Ahnouk. A goddess-queen of Haneht’s own little world - whose lonesome, desolate temple sat quietly in his heart, all but forgotten. Blasphemy! ‘I ought to snap her pretty thin neck.’ Smiling like a Cheshire, his lips gravitated downwards when his thoughts settled.

Wild Djed. What an absolute nightmare.

A sticky dampness in his fists reminded him of where he was, and the youth would blink, eyes clearing and senses recalibrating to his current surroundings. A door. Whose door? The freshly picked, meticulously curated bouquet of wild flowers in his fist—he’d forgotten they were there, how silly of him—with stems pitifully crushed between tightly wound fingers. He relaxed his grip. So much for an apology gift, lamented the dancer. At least, the sentiment was there.

“Raeyn?“ He rapped on the door in two sets of threes, double the amount of when they’d met at the Rest, remaining hands linked by the fingers behind his back. “Is the big bad hunter home?”

Centuries of perfecting the art of falconry and nourishing of bonds between the majestic wind eagles and their riders. So many years of tradition onto to give rise to... Raeyn... man with a chicken.

For many days now the alchemist had grown weary of leaving his houwse. Voices that plagued a frazzled mind, the origin of which was supernatural at best, threattened his every move, everyone he came in contact with. Behind a firmly locked and latched wooden door, defended by walls of stone and domes of skyglss, at last the hunter could do no damage. He could get himself into no trouble. And that's just how the grumpy Inarta alchemist liked his life, void of trouble.

Even behind these walls he was not a recluse. A small, dim apartment was alive with fur and feathers and him, the alchemist kissed by fire. Quite the trio they made. The Inarta, the dog and the chicken.

Sometimes it felt like Woodie had only two modes: sleeping and curious. If awake she would constantly follow him. The Inarta couldn't brush his teeth or take a dump without the bird staring at him dumbfounded, observing the curious deeds of the human. At first this behaviour was something he threatened to turn her into a stew over. Almost a season later he had grown so used to it, he felt odd leaving the bird at home when running errands.

That afternoon Raeyn had found another metal egg stuffed in their kindling stash. One of her favourite places to leave little presents for him. At this point he had began growing quite the collection. Some eggs clearly iron, hard and strong and perfect for the use in his magic. Others of brittle copper, shining gold and sleek silver. the chicken had a use that kept her out of the pot and safe on the ground, or sometimes napping on the dog.

Come noon Raeyn had found himself a little more relaxed. Sat at the table with half a loaf in one hand, the chicken cooing happily snuggled into his robes and a stew in front of him, made from what could potentially be one of her distant relatives. Lost in his own little world, was Raeyn before a knock at the door rapidly ripped him from his thoughts. Inside his chest, the heart jumped with elation both elation and anxiety. And as the alchemist swung the door open it was mara he was hoping to see. And it was precisely not Mara that his eyes met.

A familiar sight caught him off guard, but not entirely an unwelcome one. A face as beautiful and radiant as Syna's rays in summer, an unmistakable crop of speak brown hair, more arms than any normal man would know what to do with. Quick enough the alchemist banished surprised from his face only to be replaced by a pleasant enough smile.

But before Raeyn had even the chance to greet Haneht with any semblance of propriety, a snout pushed it's way right between his legs and soon enough the rest of the dog followed. With a cacophony of barking and the wagging of a long, cinnamon fur tail, a dog in ecstasy barraged the Eypharian with affection. The keen nose had caught a scent of a new friend and it seemed the dog couldn't help itself but jump and frolic around Haneht like a puppy, threatening to knock the boy over.

"Hush! Hey Ruru, heel! Now." Raeyn's voice boomed with irritation, horrified at this display. It wasn't a usual thing for his dog to do. But having smelled Haneht's sent on RAeyn's clothes before, the hunting dog was so excited to meet him. He complete ignored his master's command and soon enough the Inarta began wrestling with the creature to keep it's energy contained. How comical he must have looked, Raeyn dreaded to think.

"I apologise. He's... he's usually far better behaved than this." said Raeyn, gripping his pet by the scruff and glaring at it scoldingly.

Another pair of eyes would greet Haneht at the door step. Two little beady eyes of a speckled hen, tilting her head to the side a little as if everything about the newcomer confused her. The alchemist paid her no attention, too busy frazzled by the dog.

Raeyn himself looked tidy as usual. Clad in a white tunic, free of creases and embellished by gold, and fashionable, wide leg trousers, with his hair pulled out of the way by a braid. Though if he looked closely enough Haneht would sure enough find himself wondering whether those white marks around his eyes have gotten a little bigger since the last time he had seen him. It wasn't a massive change, but one that wouldn't escape observant eyes.

"Please, come inside. Forgive me I wasn't expecting guests." Raeyn moved out of the way of the door, allowing the boy to enter if so he chose.

The twin's apartment wasn't anything even remotely as spectacular as his clothing would suggest the living quarters of a man such as himself should be. Simple and somewhat dim, lit by a hearth at the very centre, the whole place had a sort of student-like feel about it. Small and cramped and humble. A bed on either end, a chest from which clothing spilled out onto the floor, a table beneath which a pile of laundry awaited doing and a barely touched supper atop.

Late afternoon

While the Eypharian lingered outside the door with bated breath, fingers crossed that the Inarta was in less of a foul mood than he had been at the rest. He would hate to be turned away now. When the door swung open, Haneht aimed a truly sunny smile at him, familiar red locks and unique pigmentation a sight for sore eyes. He did not miss the surprise that overtook his features when the other realised it was him. Fair enough—he had dropped by without any prior warning. Raeyn was smiling, at the very least, indicating his pleasure at seeing the brunette, and what wonders it did to his image. And Haneht’s heart, fluttering and jumping against the cages of his ribs in giddy excitement. Raeyn had such a nice smile.

“Radiant as ever, Raeyn. I had some free time, and thought to visit you, and Mara directed me here... These, are for you,” the bouquet would be presented to him, albeit with stems in a somewhat pitiful state, but the flowers still remained intact. He’d thought to brought them in case, a sort of appeasement gift that had also been a very sudden, unexplained decision when he happened to pass by a handful of them growing in the Sharai peaks. They were pretty, so he plucked them.

Something nudged it’s way between the scholarly Inarta’s legs, a snout that was very quickly followed by the rest of the creature. A fine beast that, like its master, had a rich coat of red fur, healthy and well looked after. Strong voice, too, and a grunt, followed by a tinkle of laughter, joyful and mellifluous, erupted in response to the ecstatic beast that tackle him. He crouched down and nuzzled the creature, fingers combing through majestic red fur and scratching at the back of his ears. “Good beast. Aren’t you so happy to see me? I don’t think we’ve met though. Did Raeyn speak of me lots?” he crooned, watching it frolick and leap around him with boundless energy. Such friendly creatures they could be. “No need for apologies. He’s such a friendly boy! I adore animals. We’ve big cats back home, as old as I a–” Haneht paused, lips parted mid-sentence at another pair of dark, beast eyes regarding him with great curiosity, much closer to Rae’s feet than his dog.

They stared at each other for a good while. Haneht and hen. Eypharian and chicken. Man and poultry. Neither were willing to look away, so he broke away first, gaze returning to rest on Raeyn’s face. Had his condition progressed? The patches seemed to have... grown. If that was possible. Just a smidge, but he could’ve sworn they hadn’t been so far along the length of his eyes. The hunter looked as put together as ever, silky hair braided neatly and a little more relaxed than he had appeared at the lesson. The gold and white tunic he wore - was it the same one he’d donned at The Rest? The boy can’t help but feel a surge of possessiveness and pride. Gold complimented him so well.

He did not need to be invited in twice, eagerly traipsing in past the funny chicken (they always were funny, to be very honest), and stopped a little ways from the door to admire the humble abode. A sprucely, cosy thing with a hearth and minimal furniture. The bed must be Mara’s, he surmised. Speaking of Mara...

Scintillating amber eyes wandered over to her male counterpart, a second once-over as he attempted to determine the other’s current condition. “And how are you, Raeyn? You seem well," he paused briefly, contemplative look set upon sharp, gilded features. He thought back to the man he’d seen at the rest, weary and troubled, whose burdens and exhaustion showed in the bags beneath his eyes and remained, worsened even, when their paths again crossed. To Mara’s vague, hinting words, as she had bid him farewell from the Inn and sent him off to her brother, the saddened eyes she had when he asked if Raeyn had been doing alright. “...but you’re not, are you?”

The flowers surprised him somewhat. Such a sweet gesture. A symbol of love, so simple yet somehow such a foreign concept to a hunter who had rarely, if ever, dabbled in true romance. Had he ever received flowers before? As far as Raeyn's memory could stretch he could not recall a single time. Graciously he accepted them, embarrassed a little than should the tables have been reversed and it was his own knuckles slamming against the Eypharian's homestead, such a thing as to bring flowers would not have even occurred to him.

Suffice to say Haneht had become the new subject of the dog's attention. and for a very good reason indeed. Petting from one hand was amazing, two sent the dog into fits of glee but six... six was something else all together. Six could rub and itch every single spot beneath that thick fur of his. The anima's pink tongue flipped out like a carpet from his mouth as he began to pant before rolling over onto his back at Haneht's feet, exposing a white belly just itching to be scratches. The massive furry tail still wagged.

"That's Ruru." smiled Raeyn, really quite pleased how quickly the dog had taken to his new friend, even if Raeyn himself did no such thing upon their first encounter. But then his sights were caught by a sudden entrancement of the boy with the chicken by Raeyn's feet. The alchemist looked between the two before lovingly scooping the little creature off the floor and letting her plump, round body rest comfortably in his arms. "And that's Woodie. And before you think me mad for keeping a chicken at home, I asure you there's a very good reason for that." chuckled Raeyn.

The Inarta was still a little uneasy around the other. But in the comfort of his own home where every darkest corner was so very familiar to him, he hoped to make a slightly better impression. After the last encounter he hadn't seemed to be able to get the other out of his head. Haneht haunted his dreams and dream-wakes. The sound of his voice, reflections in his eyes lingered in Raeyn's memory as if he had never truly parted from the Eypharian. After all that, the boy still came to see him a second time, came to enquire about his doings. After all that... it had to mean something, right?

"Make yourself at home. Uh... could I get you anything to eat, drink? Wine maybe?" Raeyn fussed around anxiously for a moment before Haneht's words halted him where he stood. Eyes wide, like a rabbit staring down the hinter's arrow tip. Mind searching for something to say... anything would do.

"I'm splendid, truly." he lied though his teeth, summoning his biggest of smiles which by Rein's standards was really something. But compared to anyone else, especially a creature as jubilant as Haneht, it was little more than a melancholic, waining crescent. A mask to cover the real thoughts beneath.

He rummaged around a little more, fingers of alabaster finding a bottle of wine in the pantry that would seem apt for the occasion. Doing his best to upkeep his composure the man poured them each a hearty glass. Even made some attempts at small talk all in order to disguise that which had been bothering him. Push it back beneath layers and layers of uncertainty, fear and shame. How could he tell the beautiful male that disembodied voiced plagues him and made him want to wrap his fingers not around the neck of the bottle, but that of Haneht's very own golden skin.

'If you kill him now, nobody has to know. Not even your sister...'

But pretending was futile. Every facet of Raeyn, down to his very body movement screamed that the man was not ok. And so eventually his knees gave in beneath him and he sat on his ben, across the room from Haneht, with the glass at his feet on the floor abandoned and his head in his hands.

"Did... did Mara say anything." he asked, an underlying tremble to his voice. He hadn't confides the gruelling secret in the woman. How could he? As of late he relinquished the ability to confide just about anything in her as he began to shut out the one person that kept him afloat though it all, the one outlet for the most human need for someone to talk to. Even the extreme introvert that he was, Raeyn too was human. Isolation in his own head began to take a toll. Like a prison, it was, to which the key was in sight but he was too weak to reach out and tough it.

He hadn't confided any of his secrets in Mara as of late. He couldn't even dream of doing so. But twin intuition was a powerful force between the two Inarta. If he was sick or sad or plagued with worries, she could tell it across the city, it seemed. Something Raeyn feared the most was what she would think if she found out.

"Make no mistake. I don't want you to worry about me, if that's the purpose of your visit. And you may tell her the same thing. I've been... frazzled, overworking my self too much but I'm fine I promise." Every word that passed the threshold of his lips was a lie. Raeyn was as far from fine as it got. "But enough about me! How have you been?'

Late afternoon

The flowers had been accepted without much fuss, and Haneht found out that having six arms was, in fact, very useful when it came to giving belly rubs to dogs. Good, precious dogs with equally gorgeous owners. “Good boy,” a subtle purr from a moist throat, the owner of which lavished Raeyn’s furry, spice-coloured companion with affections and a barrage of pets. “Very good boy.”

He smiled, saccharine sweet and teasing at the same time. “I’d thought it might’ve been your next meal, but seeing as you’ve already named it...” Haneht trailed off, a shrug of his shoulders indicating that he could care less of whatever the chicken’s purpose around was. They laid eggs, didnt they? And a feathered companion was always good fun! Haneht would know—he was the one who kept bringing the chickens into his room when they were children.

A low, thoughtful hum reverbated in his throat. “Anything. Seeing you is all I came here for, really," Answered Haneht, practically gliding as he strode across the room, trailing after Raeyn like a lost puppy in his own house before eventually deciding to take a seat somewhere. A frown crossed his features at the other’s insistence that he was alright. Had Haneht really been mistaken? That couldn’t be right. Mara had mentioned that Raeyn had been acting very, very out of place and bizarrely, enough so that it greatly worried her, and visibly pained her, to see her twin suffering. ’Baby steps’ he reminded himself. The other could be afraid for all he knew.

Raeyn played a good host for a while, offering wine to which the Eypharian would graciously accept (and was momentarily, just momentarily, distracted by). He supposed liquor was a good way for the Inarta to relax more, and that by drinking with him he could get Raeyn to open up just a little more. They engage in small talk as the redhead did so, Haneht keeping a trained eye on him as he puttered about, tracing the slope of his nose and the curve of rosy lips, his sharp jaw and prominent cheekbones. Eyes guarded and wary, a certain nervousness and paranoia about him that Haneht couldn’t quite seem to understand or decipher the cause of.

The glass of wine never came.

From where he sat, he watched as the man’s facade shattered, jumping to his feet when Raeyn just... slumped down to his knees. Wordlessly, he immediately made his way over to the prone figure collapsed on the floor, large hands prying at the other’s fingers and tilting his chin upwards so that their eyes could meet. “Nothing I didn’t already suspect. She‘s merely concerned for her Brother. I only know you fought, and that you’ve not been well.” Haneht’s voice is one of halcyon tunes as he speaks, a free hand rubbing circles in the poor man’s back in a valiant attempt to soothe him.

“But Raeyn,” he began, shooting him a small, reassuring smile “I want to worry about you.” The Dancer was much too enamoured not to. Since their encounter at Zintia’s Test, as well as the Divine Gateway, and the night of the Annual Banquet that Haneht still had very little recollection of, red hair and white-gold skin was all Haneht could see, could think of. Often, he had found his thoughts drifting to the gorgeous man that the fates have brought to him thrice already. The smile fell again, replaced by a barely convinced look that dared Raeyn to continue to stubbornly insist. “You’re not fooling anyone. I saw you at Corin Row’s lesson - you looked awful, Raeyn.”

'Next meal, eh?' thought Raeyn with a quiet chuckle to himself. Funny how great minds thought alike, for upon meeting the curious bird, Raeyn too had exactly the same thought. And truly he never thought himself quite so competent as to form a bond of companionship with something he could make dinner out of, but the hen's usefulness had left him fond indeed.

"Quite on the contrary." he said, placing the hen down by a heap of logs for the heart where she often liked to perch. "I's have found it impossible to believe my self, had I not seen it with my own eyes. But... well... how do I even explain it? She's good for eggs but not the ordinary kind. Every so often she leaves me a metal one here or there. Golden little thing, I've not had the chance to get around to doing anything with them yet just just the possibilities..."

The alchemist cut himself off mid sentence. He was rambling, and grew pretty sure Haneht had little care for those ramblings. It was impolite. But a deeper reason there was as Raeyn had wondered whether the boy had yet to figure out he was a mage, and the precise nature of the work he partook in. They had met at the lesson in the Deivine's Getaway after all, and the Inarta often loitered around the Twilight Tower. If Haneht had ever noticed him there, putting the two and two together was no great feat.

Hearing that the boy had gone out of his way to see him was dignified with a little smile, but Raeyn couldn't help himself but wonder why. Had he not made it clear enough that there were far too few hours in his day for such foolish things as romance and kisses? He would have thought that Haneht would have found himself a new object of attraction by now and forgotten about the poliosis stricken, freckly redhead long ago. But yet here he was. Proving to him yet once more that to him Raeyn wasn't just a nobody. How much more proof would Raeyn need before finally getting it though his head, only time would tell.

In all honesty, to worry the boy was the last thing Raeyn wanted to do. Feeling the worry of another was an uncomfortable emotion. It required a degree of intimacy he was seldom capable of. And perhaps somewhere deep down inside he wished to be able to accept it far better than he did.

But as the Eypharian brought his chin up for Raeyn to look at him, the alchemist's heart stopped. A moment that lasted forever passed between them and not a single heart beat could be felt in his chest, lips parted and eyes drowning in Haneht's. Soft words caressed his ears. A touch that made him freeze in time, simultaneously wishing for it to stop immediately, and craving it.

Raeyn had a problem with physical contact. It was just a fact of life. Having grown up barely ever hugging either of his parents or his sister, the alchemist was an intellectual, not a kinetic person. It always made him this uneasy. It was something he'd have to learn, like a toddler learns walking.

Why was he so kind? That Raeyn couldn't wrap his head around. If the tables had turned, the alchemist may have maybe offered a haphazard platitude before occupying himself with something a lot more worthy of his time. But here he was, the beautiful boy who could have had anything in Lhavit that his heart desired purely by looks alone but he had chosen the one thing that he really truly did have to fight for. He had chosen Raeyn. Perhaps not the smartest choice but certainly was he tenacious in his pursuits.

A war is won one battle at a time. In this one, Haneht was victorious.

Slowly, timidly, the Inarta brought a hand to the one Haneht had been holding his chin with. Fingers gently wrapped around it, removing the touch from his skin, so that he could cast his eyes aside once more, hide them, feel a little safer. The question on the tip of his tongue made him a little dizzy with anxiety. But none the less, Raeyn overcame himself a little and gestured for Haneht to sit down on the bed beside him, which in itself was a great feat indeed.

Raeyn swallowed hard before speaking. Voice far more quiet than the usual commanding tone he adopted. "You saw me, yes... you did. Do you... have you...?" No matter how hard he tried, the words just wouldn't come out right. "Have you figured it out yet? What's wrong with me... that is..."

Raeyn wished that he had lived a little higher, so that in that exact moment he could have thrown himself out of the window and plummet to his death ceremoniously, where hell itself could take him. A mix of embarrassment and panic churned in his stomach, squeezed at his heart with an unforgiving fist. Had Haneht figured it out, then what did he think of him? And had he not, would he tell him? A secret so hard Raeyn spent every single day wishing, praying for someone to turn to but Syna was the only one who listened to the alchemist's desperate pleas. But not that such a person was barely a kiss away, could Raeyn muster the strength to confide such darkness in the boy made of light?

Late afternoon

A chicken that laid metal eggs - how peculiar! Haneht would be lying if he said he wasn’t the least bit baffled. This was the first he had heard of such a thing, outside of fairy tales that the boy had long outgrown. Supposedly. He still enjoyed hearing them, and still held on to some of his childish beliefs. This golden chicken only served to cement that anything was possible. Even hens that laid metallic eggs.

Raeyn started on an endearingly adorable ramble that was not unlike the spiels Haneht would go off on whenever something interesting crossed his path. Like the alchemist, for instance. Hessel had had the honour of hearing him gush and babble on and on about the pretty Inarta, whose private bath he’d accidentally hijacked on one of his previous visits, when Haneht had come across him again at the Divine Gateway. And gods did he have it bad.

“Are you a scholar?” suggested the Eypharian, curiosity lacing his words. “You must know so much. I’d love to learn — I could teach you to dance, in exchange, if you so liked.” he purred, a little salacious in nature that his deep, husky voice seemed to enhance even more.

Raeyn had such a nice voice; a comely timbre that reverberated deep in his throat. He wouldn’t mind hearing him use it more. And his eyes, his deep, sky blue eyes that got so shy, yet beneath it lurked a boundless thirst for wisdom and a scholarly intelligence that the brunet could appreciate. Knowledge was power, and Raeyn was a potential well of it. It was... mildly erotic, put very bluntly. There was a certain appeal in wits he could not deny.

Seeing Raeyn vulnerable and frightened, like a wounded animal, stirred something in him. A need to protect, need to appease his handsome archer and chase away his woes. The Eypharian absolutely adored him—even if it was merely an ephemeral infatuation—and he wanted to banish all the other’s demons, hold him and lavish him in his affections. Raeyn was vulnerable and weak and in need of someone to rely on, something to anchor him. This was his chance, to bridge the distance and discover the diamond in the rough. Today, tonight, he would, had to steal this beautiful cherub soul away for himself.

Haneht was a relentless hunter in his pursuits, and Raeyn had the present misfortune of being his current fascination.

The hand that encompassed Haneht’s own, albeit briefly, timidly pried his fingers off and brought them away, and he found himself denied of the other’s crystal blue gaze. An invitation to take his place next to the fiery-haired man was extended quietly with a pat, and he graciously accepted, dipping the mattress of the bed as his weight was introduced. Amber orbs perused the other’s features and the conflicting emotions and thoughts that seemed to flit across the other’s handsome features, freckled skin and enticing lips. “...I know you’ve been greatly troubled. Afraid. Hurting.” admitted Haneht solemnly. He moved to take Raeyn’s closest hand in one of his many, all of which he could not seem to keep off the other today, and rubbed circles into it with his thumb in a gesture to calm. Soothe. Cocking his head, he would smile again, deceivingly saccharine. “But perhaps,” the distance between them decreased greatly, and Haneht was so incredibly aware that he was pushing the boundaries unfairly, but he’d never been one to sit and idle about. In addition, his favourite Inarta was not the only one with frustrations. The impulses had been getting stronger, coming in like massive tidal waves threatening to swallow him whole, that often caught him unawares be he alone or in company. It wasn’t the safety of others he feared for—at least, not mostly—but rather his own well-being should he act upon the violent urges. Instinct had always been his driving force. It was getting harder to discern the ones he should follow and the ones he shouldn’t.

Not to mention, he’d been hoping and pining after Raeyn for days. Weeks. Simply being in the same room was already agitating, and coupled with his own frustrations with his recent, uncharacteristic urges, he had to act before he did something regrettable. He was patient, but not that patient. So he did the unthinkable, did what he had been yearning to do for a very long while. “Perhaps this, could be of some help.”

Haneht pressed his lips against Raeyn’s. A deep, reckless display of affection, with the passion and fervour that reflected the extent of the male’s childish, obsessive infatuation with the other.

Raeyn couldn’t help but almost chuckle a little at Haneht’s suggestion. A scholar? Though perhaps not by a professional title, Raeyn supposed he was to some extent. A scholar of the magical arts. A fledgling. Though he had so much yet to learn, he quite appreciated the awe with which the pretty Eypharian boy regarded him. Raeyn was anything but humble.

“I’m not much of a dancer.” he said. “And I doubt I know anything that might be of interest to you. But… maybe one day.”

In truth he sincerely hoped the day would come sooner than later. Perhaps not Haneht but some day he wished to teach somebody. The idea of becoming a teacher of alchemy, an authority of a sort on the subject, filled the young mage’s most beautiful dreams. A passion for the subject burned in his chest. If Haneht looked closely he could see the fire roaring beneath his skin.

‘You could wrap your fingers around his throat, see it shatter beneath them. You could reach our and pluck out his pretty eyes, keep them for yourself. He can’t go anywhere without his eyes. He won’t be able to leave you. You’ll never be alone again.’

Raeyn could hear Haneht’s deep, honey sweet voice in the distance but the whispers momentarily obscured it. The very thought of what they said painted a vivid image in his head. One he’d never hope to see. As if stricken by a migraine in less than a mere moment, he placed a hand over his face, letting his hair fall where it may only to his the shame of it. The shame that for a moment, just for a moment he’d even consider such a thing. Such a way those voices had to tap into the deepest, darkest part of his human nature that bore a certain fascination with the macabre, and exploit it.

Everyone had those dark parts. But in an effort to be a man of utmost control over himself Raeyn denied that so deeply, pushed them so far down that for years he’d become convinced that he was above such things. He had no interests in being human. Ambition drove him to wanting to become more than thus, along with the need for companionship, he kept such basic instincts at bay. But even a repressed mind can crack.

Haneht’s hand on his was just about the only thing to keep him grounded. Beneath his fingers the Eypharian would feel Raeyn’s hand shake, nails dig into the soft mattress of the bed.

But for what happened next, the voices were not at foult. That was all Raeyn.

The alchemist had lost his guard long enough for Haneht to draw closer. He disregarded every boundary Raeyn had put up, jumped over every wall, an invasion of personal space that froze the Inarta where he sat; in time, in ice. Every muscle in his body became paralysed, refused to listen.

A single, auditory breath would escape the red haired mage’s lungs before lips pressed against his, denying him of breath for a prolonged moment of bliss. Eyes closed, heart pounding so hard, skipping beats that Haneht could likely hear it. Like incense smoke, the boy overwhelmed his every sense and for a moment, just for a blissful moment, the world seemed so far far away.

Everything after that was a flash. Once Raeyn’s frayed nerves were barely able to follow.

Less than a tick later Haneht would feel the sting of a hard slap against his cheek. He’d find the Inarta on the far edge of the bed, staring at him with wide eyed horror, both hands over his mouth, cheeks flaring crimson. He look like Haneht’s skin had burned him, so shaken he was.

What in the hell was wrong with him? Why had he lacked the capability to just let beautiful things be. To delight in the rare few sweet moments that life brought without always looking for some underlying horror, some way to destroy them. Why did he punish himself so? Was it the shame of the voices, or some deeper, unknown to himself, thing?

Lust, love, needs… they made him feel so disgustingly human… and that scared him. For Raeyn needed the control. He needed to feel as if he was he master in his own skin, master of his wants and wishes. But here he was, the beautiful boy who catapulted himself into his life only to take that control away. And would it really be such a sin to give into addiction just this once? Did damnation alone lay at the gates of those rose petal lips? Or was there something else…

For a moment Raeyn closed his eyes. Breath drew into his lungs, settled the emotional shaking. He steadied his heart beat, cleared his thoughts from all those questions. They were pointless now. Upon opening his eyes against, he looked at Haneht with the same cold severity the boy would have seen back at the rest, upon their very first meeting. A look he had not bore on his face since. “So this is what you really came here for…” he whispered, raising to his feet and standing directly in front of the boy so that his silhouette blocked out the light of the candle on the table. The one time he was taller than the Eypharian. “Very well then.”

‘How good wood the boy’s blood taste?’

Fingers would into his hair and sharply yanked his head back, before Raeyn’s lips pressed against his once more. Aching. Yearning. A thirst that could only be satisfied by a passionate kiss. A knee would sink into the mattress beside Haneht. Raeyn would straddle him, letting the kiss ring out it’s due cause. Surrendered to the pleasure of it all. But no matter what fingers still clung for control.

61st, Summer 518AV
Late afternoon

“One day,“ a nod of his head emphasised his agreement, “You’d be surprised. I like to learn - I find knowledge a very empowering tool.” He smiled, admiring the way embers of ambition quietly flickered to life in the eyes of the white-speckled man.

The moment was again interrupted by another bout of frailty that seemed that strike the man in unexpected waves, and Haneht found himself with a nagging curiosity and equal amounts of concern as Raeyn seemed to shield himself, as if whatever troubles that plagued him would disappear that way. The Eypharian’s hand that held the other’s trembled, and it took a moment for the boy to realise that oh, the tremors weren’t his, but rather were sources from the Inarta’s own, pale fingers digging into the mattress.

His grip on the other’s tightened, musician’s fingers squeezing the smaller hand in their grasp as if to assure him, I’m here, you’re not alone.

The initial lack of response left Haneht unguarded, unwary and unmindful of the consequence that was soon to come his way. How sinful and sweet it was, to steal a kiss from the gorgeous man who’d been occupying his thoughts and day-to-day fantasies... The brunet lost himself in the feeling, mind swimming in dangerous, uncharted waters. His lips were divine, savoury pillows of saccharine sweetness that was surely much more pleasant and addictive than Mirage. Whereas Raeyn’s eyes had fluttered close, silvery lashes glinting in the light, the boy’s own amber gaze remained open, half-lidded and wanting. Yearning.

The violent urges that lingered like foreboding storm clouds were silenced. A temporary reprieve, from the haze that clouded his judgement more and more as the season had progressed. For a brief moment, he felt like himself again.

But suddenly, Raeyn’s lips weren’t on his anymore, and he found his head forced to the side by a sudden rush of air that left him speechless and the side of his face stinging and sore. Regaining his senses, he found the other on the edge of the bed, eyes wide with an emotion that Haneht immediately recognised as fear. Of him? Pale rose lips had been covered, hidden by alabaster and pale gold fingers that also acted as a shield against the man preying after Raeyn.

Scarlet was such a lovely colour on him, noted Haneht numbly in shock. Apart from his face, and perhaps a bit of his pride at the rejection, nothing else hurt, and his stare was blank and face unreadable, with the exception of parted lips and widened that indicated his surprise at the violent deed. A wet, pink tongue poked out to run across his lips.

And then, Raeyn wasn’t quite so weak anymore, and as his gaze steeled and the man molded himself into someone else, the one Haneht remembered from their first (second?) encounter. Swimming pools of blue hardened, froze into ice, bone-chilling and exciting and arousing all at once. A man, a monster, dream and nightmare all at once, rising before his very eyes, silhouette framed by fire.

Haneht’s lips twisted into a wicked smile, heart pounding fast and loud in the confines of his chest akin to the thunderous gallop of hooves on stone.

“That’s right, Raeyn. I’m here, for you, and only you.” His arms, six strong, muscled appendages, opened up in a grand display and offering to the Inarta, encircling and embracing him in a firm hold when he came to him.

Fingers wound themselves into silken brown hair, nearly tearing head from neck when they yanked at it painfully hard, eliciting a hiss from the victim. The second kiss came crashing down on him, hard and intense and full of passion and desire that Haneht was all too eager to reciprocate. Heat bloomed and pooled in the depths of his belly, and the impish male bit at Raeyn’s lower lip. The space beside him sunk, a sharp knee pressing into it as Raeyn shifted his weight onto the dancer, sinking them both into vice that the Eypharian had been born and bred in. Lips melding, tongue danced in expert tandem to the other’s as hands snuck themselves around the redhead’s slender waist and across his being, ardently mapping out new territory. A hand raked itself down the other’s back, fingers meaning to draw red lines in the other’s flesh, carve out his love and affections and lust, as another felt it’s way up to a pulsating heartbeat, palms flat above the thumping organ. Breaking the kiss, his lips trailed down the other’s neck, alternating between light, butterfly kisses and playful bites that he meant to bruise and marr flesh with. “I adore you, Raeyn,” he mumbled into the dip between his now-lover’s neck and shoulder. “I really do.”

Sweet nothings. That’s all they were. Yet how sweet nothings could be, to take the solid heart of a man who had kept it closed behind bards of iron for so long. Perhaps loneliness it was that caused Raeyn to yield that heart so willingly, along with bountiful affection, persuaded by the charm of a boy far too pretty for his own good.

“I adore you too.” he whispered, a little reluctantly but then again not. A conflict of both hesitation and longing all at once.

The evening would carry a sharp kick of dopamine time passed, languishing in pleasure, carrying the two men off into the night with it’s boundless fantasy. For an evening, just an evening, the whole of mizahar disappeared. The whole world disappeared. It was just Raeyn, and Haneht and a single prayer, wishing for the sun to never come up again.
