Human:

Zavya cuts a striking figure of medium height, standing at five feet and six inches when in her human form. Shoulder-length, thick black hair is frequently piled haphazardly atop her head, its texture not quite curly, not quite straight. Piercing golden eyes with wide, rounded pupils immediately betray her Kelvic heritage, the tigress often sporting a veil on the few occasions she’s allowed out into the city. Those golden eyes give her night vision six times stronger than any human’s, making her well suited to nighttime guarding of the Valdinox estate. A smile rarely sits on her full lips, but when parted, yet more of her Kelvic traits are revealed. Immediately noticeable are her elongated canines, behind which is concealed a flat tongue with raspy barbs, just like her feline counterpart. Both the shape of her teeth and tongue can make speech difficult, giving her a slight lisp when she talks. Because of this, she often prefers to remain quiet.

Her wiry frame and unremarkable size conceal unexpected strength; closer inspection reveals lean, hardened muscle covering every inch of her frame. Several thick, ropelike scars run down her back and encircle her ribs; five long claw marks mar the bronzed skin of her outer right thigh. These scars are visible in both forms, though far more prominent in her human state. Half of a black sun is branded into the flesh of her left hand, a constant reminder of the freedom she's never possessed.


Tiger:

Zavya’s tiger form is vastly more impressive, her uncommon golden coloration setting her apart from others of her kind. Instead of the traditional black, her stripes are soft brown and wide-set. Her coloration gives her an almost faded appearance compared to standard tigers, the effect strange and uniquely beautiful. The feline measures thirty six inches tall at the shoulders and sixty-one inches from nose to rump with an extra thirty-eight inches of tail. Round golden eyes are the same in this form as her human counterpart, fierce and predatory in a large, heavily furred face. Her strength is formidable when shifted into tiger form—she’s often found wandering the outskirts of the Valdinox property as a tiger, in order to deter prospective intruders.

Character Concept

Just like her tiger counterpart, Zavya is a ferocious, solitary creature. The Kelvic chafes at her confinement, though it is the only life she’s ever known. Born in the Kelvic Research Institute and later sold into slavery, the tigress has rarely known a kind hand, and therefore possesses an inherent distrust of others. A streak of rebellion characterizes the woman’s otherwise reserved nature—as far as she is concerned, predators are not meant to be caged. In spite of many painful lessons attempting to teach her otherwise, Zavya still maintains that viewpoint; the tigress desperate to be free of the bonds that shackle her.

Having remained unbonded for so long, Zavya can nearly pass for human in characteristics and action, even if her eyes give away her dual nature. The Kelvic is fiercely intelligent, if uneducated, and possesses a hunter’s acute observation skills. Much like the predator she holds inside, she excels in observing patterns of speech and behavior, quickly picking up on the strengths and weaknesses of the others around her. She keeps that information stored away for later usage, in order to wield it against her tormentors on the day she finally gains her freedom. For she will gain her freedom.

While it is in her nature to long for the bond that is so many Kelvics’ driving force, Zavya desperately resists that urge, fearful that it will turn her into a weak, complacent creature. In captivity, all she can cling to is her own sense of identity and her abiding hatred. She despises the ones who hold her leash, and has no desire to form any deeper attachments. Perhaps one day when she holds mastery over her own fate, that will change, but until that day comes, she will resist as long as she can.

History

Zavya’s story is much like any other unfortunate enough to be born in the Kelvic Research Institute. Her mother was a wolf Kelvic, and her father a bat Kelvic. Or at least, that’s what she was told. It wasn’t like she ever met either one. When she was born and discovered to be a tiger, her keepers were dumbfounded, to say the least. A wolf and a bat had made a tiger? A golden tiger, no less? Naturally, once she reached sexual maturity, they tried to breed her, as well. Surely, if she had come from such innocuous beginnings, she held the key to further greatness. Alas, it was not to be. No matter how many times they tried, no matter how many different combinations of animal, she never carried to term. Not even once.

That was not to say the tigress had never been pregnant—no, quite the opposite. Kelvics were often easily bred, and Zavya was no exception. She’d fallen gravid on three different occasions, but never made it past the first trimester. Her inability to carry to term confounded and infuriated her handlers. They put her through several humiliating, invasive, and downright torturous experiments to attempt to remedy the problem, but all to no avail. If anything, the situation only got worse. After the final procedure, no amount of attempts could impregnate her again, and so she was sold off with the excess in the spring of 518.

When Ryker Valdinox picked her from that season’s selection, she thought she was finally saved. He was gentle with her and spoke soft, kind words from the moment he led her away. For the first few days of their association, she doted on him, willingly serving out every one of his demands. Servitude was worth a life spent outside of a cage, or so she thought. It turned out her cage only had prettier bars than most.

His façade of kindness quickly faded, Zavya learning in due time of the monster hidden within. As the weeks went on and her scars accumulated, she was unsure if she hadn’t been better off in the KRI, after all. Her handlers there had been cruel and detached, but this…this was something else entirely. She’d never known someone capable of such pure sadism.

Ryker was nothing if not chaotic, blowing hot and cold depending on the day. He could be sweet and solicitous one moment before beating her in a rage the next. Zavya never knew which face he would wear, her life spent as if she was treading over broken glass. She longed for freedom, but more than that…she longed to feel her jaws locked around his throat as his life slowly slipped from his body. Quietly, she would bide her time as she set her focus on achieving that goal.

Ryker purchased Zavya from the Kelvic Research Institute at the beginning of Spring, 518. When he brought her home, he gave the tigress her own bedroom (however tiny), her own clothing, and best of all, her own name. The week of her arrival, the Kelvic thought this seemingly kind man was her savior, but that illusion didn’t last long. The first time he forced her to his bed, she quickly learned of the man’s sadistic nature, hidden behind a carefully crafted veneer of wit and charm. The Valdinox tend to treat their slaves better than most, but there were always exceptions to the rule. And Ryker was certainly one.

She was nothing more than a possession to be used, a fact he very quickly made her aware of. She was whatever he needed her to be, whether that was pet, plaything, or protector. Zavya was to do nothing without his approval, to go nowhere without his say-so. And while she despises the man, there is nothing she can do against him, not in Ravokian society. At least not yet.

Zavya lives in a small bedroom within the Valdinox estate, attached to that of her master, Ryker Valdinox.

Fratava :

Zavya was taught the basics of Fratava by a half-Svefra man who served a brief stint in the Kelvic Research Institute. The man was performing an experiment of his own on the ability of Kelvic to learn new languages. He was kinder than most of her previous handlers had been, and was the closest she ever came to bonding with a human. Because of this, he was promptly removed from his position, but Zavya retained the knowledge he gave her.

Pavi :

A former slave of the Valdinox, one who was part Drykas, taught her a few rudimentary words of Pavi before the young man disappeared. Zavya remains unaware of her friend's fate, but can only assume the worst.
