Improvising he picked up the star beside him, pointed to it, and raised his brow. Lani ducked her head and stood up, stepping forward and then hopping on the bed with him. She was much calmer now, getting used to this form easily now that she knew what it was. She didn’t have to act like a dog, she just was, her behavior coming natural to her body. She did have to deliberate human gestures though, and she didn’t know how to do it. Sitting on her haunches next to him, she picked up a paw and placed it on the rock, dragging it down on accident. He put it down because that’s what he thought she wanted. So she slipped her paw off and nudged it back up, swishing her tail in encouragement. Yes, yes! It is the rock!
“Is this was Evek meant when he said he thought it did something to you? Hmm, I really should not have let you touch it. I hope no one else messed with these things, they may not all have just embedded Kelvic powers into them…” He muttered to himself in Nari, as if she suddenly wasn’t there. She was still sentient! She could still hear him! She yipped, and he looked at her.
He was silent for a second, and then reached out slowly. She watched his hand as he placed it on her head and gradually dragged it down her back. It kind of felt nice to be touched like that, like a hug from a friend. But her ego would not let him pet her like a dog. She stood up, shifted her weight back into her haunches and let out a soft growl. Not too serious, but trying to tell him not to do it again. He playfully held his hands up in surrender “Okay, okay, I won’t! I was just curious.” He chuckled in Nari, and she relaxed, sitting back down again, wrapping her tail around and looking back up at him.
“Can you change back?” He asked her another question in Nari. She whined at him to remind him she didn’t understand and he nodded. Picking her Inarta shirt off the bed, he held it up and pointed to it. “Change back?” He repeated the last part, and she thought he was asking her to wear it. She would have frowned, but seeing as she couldn’t do that, she let out another soft guttural growl to reject the request.
“You can’t? Well petch. I mean you must have, have you changed before? Or was it… me?” He kept jabbering at her in Nari, how did he not get it through his thick skull that she could not understand him? She did not understand him when he was humanoid, she did not understand him now. And now she had less ability to communicate back to him. But she read the tone in his voice, and smelled a change in his scent when he said the last word. What was he on about?
Anger flared in her throat a little bit, and she stood up, pacing on the bed, ignoring him. She should just change back and put him in his place, but she didn’t know how to yet. If wild emotions could trigger the energy to change her into a Jackal, could they not to the same to turn it back? But if she was like a Kelvic, shouldn’t she be able to do this at will?
She sat down again facing away from him, and dug her claws into the mattress in frustration. She found the energy in her abdomen and then tried to tug and pull it out of her to bring her back to her humanoid form. The attempt made her a little queasy in her stomach, and she laid down on her front paws, ignoring Narth, and kept trying. A few ticks later, she felt his hand on her back again, petting her. She couldn’t help but feel the comfort he was trying to give her in the motion, but her ego was too great. She let out a slow growl, flattening her ears, and not looking at him. He stopped.
She was getting there. Still a little queasy, she latched onto the energy again, and dragged it over her, like a blanket that has been tucked into the mattress that she was trying to untuck without getting out from underneath it. It was hard, and frustrating, and it hurt a little, but it was possible.
She was in the senseless void again.
