Weekend Challenge (16th - 18th)

Alright everyone, without further delay, here are the awards for the Challenge.

The awards are arranged as follows. Based on your choice of focus within your thread, you may choose from the associated category of awards. For example, if your thread focus was a feline, you may choose an award from the Feline list. Claim your award in this thread.

Alternatively, you may try your luck with a dice roll (seen further down in this post) and try to get an award from any of the categories. To do this, login to Discord and roll 1D29 in the challenges channel. What you roll is what you get on the dice roll list. If you have banked rolls from previous challenges, these cannot be used in this challenge.

You may only choose ONE option. So if you decide to take an item from your particular category of focus, you cannot roll for an item on the list. If you decide to roll for an item, you may not choose an item from your category of focus.

There are pros and cons associated with how you choose to receive your award.

If you go with the awards for your chosen focus, you get whatever you want within that particular list.

If you go with the dice roll, you get whatever you roll for which may or may not be what you want.

In addition, if you go with the dice roll, there are three items that you can get that are not available through simple choice from your focus category. Make your choice known in your claim post.

All items are designated for the character who earned them. They cannot be sold, traded or otherwise transferred without losing all powers, abilities and modifications they may have.

Feline

Lion Claw Gauntlet

Appearing as a massive lion’s paw, this gauntlet is covered in fur wrapped around a flexible metal frame. It is magecrafted with a structural enhancement making it quite durable; to the point that it works as a buckler shield. The fingers are tipped with claws and there are hooked protrusions on the knuckles. These protrusions are a part of an internal mechanism that, when the palm of the gauntlet is pressed, shoots the protrusions forward up to 15 feet. They are connected by thin strands of isurian steel that can hold up to 200 lbs of weight; allowing the gauntlet to act as a grappling hook. A second tap on the palm will retract the protrusions and pull the wearer to wear the protrusions have hooked. While the gauntlet can lift the wearer, it cannot pull things toward it.

Illuminated Sight

This is an ability that can be added to any sword or dagger. It is activated by speaking a phrase in the ancient tongue; known to the wielder of the weapon upon touching it. Although there is no present translation, the phrase activates the power of sight. The crosspiece of the weapon curls around towards the blade resembling a pair of stylized metal suns. When held to one’s face and looking through the curled crosspiece, the wielder can see as if they possessed a limited form of Syna’s gnosis. The range is 500 feet from the wielder and they can see anything that is directly touched by sunlight. Details are what can be seen from a 50-foot distance. The sight lasts 30 seconds and can be used once per day.

Roaring Choker

This leather necklace fits close and snug around the wearers neck and is set with a small tigers-eye stone. Once per day, at will, the choker allows the wearer to emit a loud, vicious roar. Even the most stalwart of individuals will find themselves at least somewhat intimidated by the ferocity of the sound. Opponents suffer a 10-point penalty to their next action/skill roll following the roar.

Turtle

Turtle Shell Armor

This suit of medium armor is made from a very large turtle shell. It consists of two pieces, the shell itself on the back and a hardened plate on the front. The two pieces are fastened together with a couple straps and a buckle. On the buckle is the symbol of Laviku. The armor is magecrafted with a moderate structural enhancement making it quite durable. The armor grants a bonus of 10 to swimming and is capable of self-repairing damage over time.

Crimson Cloth Mask

A length of crimson colored cloth with two slits cut in it for eyes. When this mask is wrapped and worn around the wearer’s head, it grants a momentary boost of strength much like that granted through the use of flux. This boost can be used once per day at will. A successful unarmed strike or one with a weapon will have some of its potential damage increased by one level (minor to moderate, moderate to serious). It could also be used to allow the wearer to momentarily lift twice the amount of weight they may otherwise be able to lift for a single action.

Sapphire Cloth Mask

A length of deep blue colored cloth with two slits cut in it for eyes. When this mask is wrapped and worn around the wearer’s head, it grants a momentary boost of leadership. This boost can be used once per day at will. The boost allows the wearer to influence friendly individuals/small groups of people in a way that briefly improves their morale and determination. This translates into a 10 point bonus to any single roll those affected may take within that thread scene.

Amethyst Cloth Mask

A length of deep purple colored cloth with two slits cut in it for eyes. When this mask is wrapped and worn around the wearer’s head, it grants a momentary boost of insight. This boost can be used once per day at will. The boost gifts the wearer an “aha” moment wear they are better able to succeed in a task than they otherwise would. The boost is equivalent to a 10 point bonus to a single skill roll for a single action.

Amber Cloth Mask

A length of orange colored cloth with two slits cut in it for eyes. When this mask is wrapped and worn around the wearer’s head, it grants a momentary boost of agility. This boost can be used once per day at will. The wearer finds they are briefly able to move with greater balance, flexibility and dexterity. This translates into allowing the wearer to reduce some of the damage of a fall by one category (serious to moderate, moderate to minor) or gain a 10 point bonus to dodging a strike against them.

Mask

Spectrum Helm

This stylized helmet covers the entire head. The eye slots are fitted with stained-glass lenses although sight is not hindered. The entire helmet is magecrafted with a moderate structural enhancement and is quite durable. While worn, the helmet grants the ability of nightvision up to 25 feet with detail equal to that of normal vision.

Sonic Helm

This stylized helmet covers the entire head. The eye slots are fitted with stained-glass lenses although sight is not hindered. The entire helmet is magecrafted with a moderate structural enhancement and is quite durable. At will, the wearer can hear sounds that are otherwise difficult or impossible for a mortal to hear. This translates into an enhanced sense of hearing reduces the difficulty of observation through sound by 10 points.

Shadow Helm

This stylized helmet covers the entire head. The eye slots are fitted with darkly clouded lenses. The entire helmet is magecrafted with a moderate structural enhancement and is quite durable. Once per day, the wearer is able to emit an inky darkness from the helmet’s eye lenses. This darkness surrounds an area of 10 feet around the wearer but does not move with them. In the presence of moderate to full light, all attacks against the wearer suffer a 10 point skill penalty. In partial or full darkness, the wearer gains a 10 point bonus to stealth.

Duality Helm

This stylized helmet covers the entire head. The eye slots are fitted with stained-glass lenses although sight is not hindered. The entire helmet is magecrafted with a moderate structural enhancement and is quite durable. Once per day, the wearer is able to create an illusory image of themselves within line of sight up to 50 feet away. The illusion only affects sight thus it cannot emit sounds, smells and does not have physical substance. The illusion can be maintained as long as it remains in the wearer’s line of sight.

Snake

Serpent’s Scarf

This snake-skin scarf, typically worn over the shoulders, disguises a potent weapon. When the scarf is held in one’s hands and pulled straight, it stretches and transforms into a short wooden spear. The shaft of the spear is carved with scales and color patterns much like a real snake and the head is shaped like that of a snake with an open mouth. When thrown, the head animates and bites the target on a successful strike. Upon a successful strike, the target suffers an additional minor wound in the form of a mild poison. Regardless of the success of the strike, the spear will animate and slither back to its owner where it returns to the form of a scarf. The scarf is magecrafted with a moderate structural enhancement thus it is quite durable.

Serpent’s Hood

This hood can either be crimson red, pitch black or deep blue. It covers the entire head and face and has two slots to see out of. When worn, the hood enhances the wearers words in a way that makes them sound more agreeable and persuasive. It grants a bonus of 10 to the use of the persuasion skill while worn. It is magecrafted with a moderate structural enhancement making it quite durable.

Serpent’s Lenses

A pair of simple, black spectacles with clear lenses. When worn, these spectacles strangely enhance how others perceive the wearer. The wearers voice sounds more seductive, their face is seen as more appealing and their movements seem more alluring. While worn, the spectacles grant a bonus of 10 to seduction.

Hawk

Silver Amulet

A plain silver amulet with the form of a hawk etched upon it. When worn, the wearer can, at will, once per thread scene, cause the amulet to cover them with a form-fitting, flexible suit of silver-colored armor that covers all but their head and one arm. The armor acts as a suit of light armor and will last for the duration of the thread scene. It is very lightweight and non-encumbering when active.

Silver Bracers

A pair of plain silver bracers with the form of a hawk etched upon each one. When worn, the wearer can, once per day, cause a pair of silver, metallic wings to form under their arms. While these wings do not allow actual flight, they do allow for gliding from a higher elevation to a lower one. The use of the wings does not come naturally to the wearer and they must practice in order to get a feel for it. The wings, once formed, last no longer than 5 minutes before they vanish. This means that extended periods of gliding are not possible and attempts are ill-advised.

Silver Disc

An 8-inch diameter flat silver disc with the form of a hawk etched upon its face. The disc has a sharpened edge and can be thrown as a ranged weapon. As it spins through the air, the disc leaves a silvery trail of light in its wake and moves with surprising speed regardless of how hard it is thrown. It is magecrafted with a moderate structural enhancement and is so sharp that it upgrades all minor wounds to moderate. In addition, the disc will return to the thrower regardless of the success or failure of the strike. Requires skill in Boomerang to use.

Wagon or Boat

Shell of Aquamotion

A small, fist-sized wooden snail shell with a stylized face carved upon its surface. When pressing one’s thumb upon the face and tossing the shell into a body of water, the shell’s dual nature is activated. Once activated, the shell will begin to twist, shift and unfold its form; growing and transforming into something completely different. Within a matter of seconds, the shell will change into a canoe complete with wooden oar. The canoe possesses a magecraft moderate structural enhancement making it quite durable. In addition, the canoe will never overturn and can stay upright and afloat even in the most severe of aquatic storms. Touching the face again will turn the canoe back into a shell.

Cube of Deception

A small, fist-sized wooden cube with a stylized face carved on one side. When the pressing one’s thumb upon the face and tossing the cube to the ground, the cubes dual nature is activated. Once activated, the cube will begin to unfold, shift and expand its form; growing and transforming into something completely different. Within a matter of seconds, the cube will change into a small structure very similar to that of a large dog house. The small house is big enough for one person comfortable or two people packed pretty close, to sleep in; serving a similar purpose to that of a tent. The temperature inside the house is always moderate regardless of the outside temperature. Those inside will never fear rain, wind, or the elements as the house has a magecrafted moderate structural enhancement and cannot be overturned by strong winds. Touching the face again will turn the house back into a cube.

Wheel of Rolling

A small, fist-sized wooden wagon wheel with a stylized face carved in the center of the spokes. When pressing one’s thumb upon the face and tossing the wheel to the ground, the rings dual nature is activated. Once activated, the wheel will begin to shift, twist and unfold its form; growing and transforming into something completely different. Within a matter of seconds, the wheel will change into a small, one person, horse drawn wagon. While the horse must be provided separately, the wagon is capable of carrying a single person, 200 lbs of cargo and possesses a magecrafted moderate structural enhancement, making it quite durable. The wagon is very light-weight and can traverse sand, mud and other difficult terrains without difficulty. Touching the face again will turn the wagon back into a wheel.

Mega-Gauntlet

A simple metal gauntlet with a stylized face etched upon the top of the hand. Pressing one’s thumb upon the face and pointing their index finger outward while closing the rest of the fingers, the gauntlet’s dual nature is activated. Once activated, the gauntlet begins to shift, twist and unfold its form; transforming into something completely different. Within a matter of seconds, the gauntlet will change into one that integrates a crossbow to its form complete with 6 loaded bolts. The transformed gauntlet looks like a much smaller version of a bombard sometimes found mounted on sailing vessels. Inside the metal tube there are six smaller tubes holding the crossbow bolts. Merely flexing one’s index finger will loose a bolt. It may be reloaded from the mouth of the barrel by placing the bolts in the smaller tubes until hearing a click. The gauntlet/crossbow has a moderate structural enhancement magecrafted into it. Touching the face again will turn the crossbow back into a simple gauntlet.

Optimal Ring

A simple gold ring with a stylized face etched upon its surface. When the ring is rubbed, its dual nature is activated. Once activated, the ring begins to shift, twist and expand its form, transforming it into something completely different. Within a matter of seconds, the ring will change into a gold buckler shield with a moderate magecrafted structural enhancement. With each deflected strike, the shield gains a 2-point bonus to leadership skill rolls in battle for the sake of inspiring allies to a maximum of 10 points. Allies will also benefit from an equal bonus to all rolls while engaged in combat. The shield is extremely lightweight and has the uncanny ability to catch just the right light, even in near total darkness, giving it a unique glint of light with every move. The bonuses last for the remainder of the thread scene.

Statue

Stone Guardian

A four-foot tall stone statue of a horned, winged, humanoid creature. The statue stands upon a stone base that can be integrated into an owned structure. On the edge of the stone base there is a phrase carved into the surface. It says, “Stone by day, warriors by night”. When read aloud, the guardian is activated. The next evening, the statue will seemingly shed a stone skin, revealing a living, breathing creature. It is bound to the person who activated it and will do everything within their power to protect that person. During the day, the guardian is forced into its stone form. When the sun sets, its stone skin is shed and it greets the night with a roar. The guardian is a Stationary NPC in that it cannot travel more than 50 feet from the structure it is connected to. It has 30 points in Unarmed Combat and 20 points in Stealth. If injured, its wounds will be completely healed the next evening. If killed, the guardian will return to its place upon the stone base in 10 days. The guardian has the mentality of a slightly mature teenager and is fluent in the language the one who activated it is.

Stone Fist Pendent

A fist-shaped piece of granite suspended from a tiny silver chain. This pendant doesn’t look all that extravagant yet appearances can be deceiving. When worn and at will, the pendant can cover the wearer’s skin in a flexible, stony membrane, like a second skin made of stone. To the wearer of the pendant, the stone skin is weightless and has no hinderance to movement. It does however provide the equivalent of medium armor. Successful unarmed strikes while surrounded by the skin also grant an upgrade to damage in the form of minor wounds becoming moderate ones. The skin lasts from the moment it is activated until the next sunrise.

Crucible of Stone Sight

A small iron crucible with a small, eye-sized emerald set in the interior bottom. Etched around the brim of the crucible is a list of ingredients; water, a pinch of sand, a drop of blood and a stone in that order. When the ingredients are added to the crucible, ending with the drop of blood, the contents blend into a thick, crimson and green, churning liquid. When a stone; gemstone or mundane rock, is dropped in the mixture, it takes on a mystical property. The fluid is absorbed into the stone leaving it colored in green and red swirls. The newly altered stone possesses a limited ability of giving the creator a unique form of sight. With concentration, the creator can see whatever the stone sees as if it were an eye. The creator must cover one eye, either with their hand or with a patch. Through the blocked eye, they will see what the stone sees. The range is one mile from the creator and the sight lasts for one minute. This can be done once per day. Multiple eyes can be created with the crucible and the creator can choose which to look through. A total of 6 eyes can be maintained at any one time.

The Power of Leth

This ability can be added to weapon. When the weapon is held high above the wielder’s head and words in the ancient tongue are spoken (learned through a vague, forgettable dream; only the words are remembered), a beam of concentrated moonlight shoots down from the night sky and hits the weapon. Immediately after, if the weapon is pointed at a mundane animal companion (must have been in the close presence of the wielder for at least a season following its acquisition), the moonlight energy within the weapon pours over the animal. When this happens, the animal undergoes a great transformation into a Talderian. This can only be performed after sundown and the effect lasts for 4 hours, once per evening. While effected, the animal is in all ways a Talderian version of whatever species it may be. Kelvics are not affected. For four hours following the end of the transformation, the animal will be a bit skittish, almost cowardly and unwilling to put itself in potentially dangerous or risky situations.

Cloak of the Sorceress

A cloak made of interwoven feathers from various birds of prey that automatically adjusts to fit the wearer. Once per day, for four hours, the cloak allows the wearer to transform into a full-sized, adult Kalean Eagle; a rare, large breed of eagle exclusive to the Kalea Region. In this form they instinctively know how to fly and have superior sight like that of an eagle. The kalean eagle is one of the largest birds of prey second only to the great Wing Eagle. The eagle is 25 lbs in weight with a 7-foot wingspan. The cloak is magecrafted with a moderate structural enhancement and self-repairs damage to it over time. (This is the Mizahar equivalent of a real-world Harpy Eagle).

Goatskull Staff

A menacing looking goat skull with large, curled horns atop a dark wood shaft. This gruesome staff possesses Leeching magic with a skill level of 10. For those who already possess Leeching, it grants its skill as a bonus of 10 to the wielder’s leeching skill. Once per day, upon tapping the end of the staff against the ground, the wielder may leech a small amount of djed from the environment. This djed may then be used to produce a single spray of poison against a target. If successfully striking the target (resolve roll plus leeching vs the opponents resolve) the poisonous spray will cause an automatic minor wound and cause a -5 to the target’s skill rolls for the remainder of the combat. When used, a muted, hollow laughter can be heard within the immediate area.

One final note, this entire challenge was inspired by my own love for cartoons of the 80s and early 90s. Each thread focus is tied to one of my favorite cartoons and all of the items up for awards are tied to items found within those same cartoons. While not all of my favorites were represented here, those that were include, Gi Joe, Transformers, He-Man, TMNT, M.A.S.K., Gargoyles and Silverhawks. This challenge is just my way of sharing some of my real-life interests with the rest of the Mizahar Community in a way that will hopefully help your characters and inspire your writing.

Items warded from this challenge will need to be acquired through separate threads just like most other past challenges.

Crylon's focus was a wagon, so choosing from the wagon/boat section:

-Shell of Aquamotion- As an Isur who can't swim, having a boat that he won't drown in seems a good idea. ;)

These are amazing (and definitely tickled my inner child), thanks Gillar!

Sticking with the prizes for the feline focus and claiming:
Lion Claw Gauntlet - a lil extra protection can go a long way (and my mind is running wild with how ridiculously badass it would look!)
“The means to every crime is ours,
and we employ them all,
we multiply the horror a hundredfold.”
