2, Spring, 519

With a nice bit of money to her name, earned through hard work, Maria was in a good mood once again. Despite her violent nature, the woman did believe in hard work, and hers had paid off. Working at Silvertongue's, she'd managed to make a nice income last winter, and decided it was time to kick back, relax for a bit, and enjoy herself. At the moment she was walking through the city with a few more gold miza in pocket money than she normally carried. Her mind was set on a nice hot meal at a tavern somewhere, followed by a bath, then finding a lovely woman at a brothel to molest, after paying of course.

Walking through the streets of the city, it was another day in the life of anarchy central. There were throngs of people coming and going about their business, many traveling in groups of safety. There was also the lone individual, though most of them were armed to the teeth, enough to take on a small crowd if need be. There were of course the destitute beggars, street whores, muggers, thugs, and general nay-do-wells out and about too. Everyone had somewhere to be, or something to do it seemed. The sun was shining overhead, but there was still a bit of a nip in the air, as winter tried to hold back the inevitable arrival of spring, and the warmth that it would bring.

Maria thought about how much she liked the city of Sunberth. No guards, no governments, and no one to tell her what to do, for the most part. Up to this point she'd had almost no contact what so ever with any of the powers that be in the city. She was just a face in the crowd that nobody took notice of. That was also the way Maria preferred it, because it was easier for her to move around, and look into some future plans she had in mind. Yet that was something for a later date, right now it was time for a some rest and relaxation.

On the way to find the tavern that struck her fancy, Maria stopped so fast one could almost hear the breaks on her boots squealing. Her attention had been drawn by a man not too far away, who appeared to be doing a little window shopping, or he was casing some place, one of the two. It wasn't the man's face she was focused on, but his arm. Made of solid metal that was darkly colored, she immediately what he was, an Isurian. They were the chosen people of the god Izurdin and not too hard to spot considering they all had one arm made of solid metal. That alone fascinated Maria. They were like living weapons, having an arm made of metal that was fully flexible.

Maria couldn't even begin to recall all the stories she'd heard about the Isur people, and what they were capable of with those arms. Most of them sounded like total bullshit, though some, perhaps some were real. There was so much about the divine Maria was ignorant of, that she wasn't sure what to think. The Gods could so easily twist the laws of nature to their whims, that is was hard to tell what an arm like that might or might be capable of. There was also the fact she'd never seen an Isurian arm up close. During her life Maria had seen a lot of the races of Mizahar, but this was one she'd never had a close encounter with. Until now she'd only seen them at a distance, but that was about to change.

This was a curiosity she had no intention of ignoring, and walked right toward Crylon. When he stopped for some reason or the other, she didn't. Now about a foot away from the man, hands on hips, she was looking at his arm very intently. Studying the metal, how it looked, they way it seemed to move just like a normal arm, despite being solid. If she hadn't been noticed before, that no doubt went out the window when she took said arm by the wrist, and lifted it for a closer inspection. It was utterly fascinating to her, and Maria slide her other hand up the forearm to get a better feel for the texture, then gently rapped on it with her knuckles.

“Wow, this really is solid metal huh?” She rapped her knuckles on the arm a second time, noticeably harder then the first, then started to shake her hand. “Dang boi, that sucker is dense. So tell me, what's it made out of? Iron, steel, Isurian steel, maybe some special godly metal or some such?”

While the inspection and questioning was going on, she looked up at Crylon to see what he would say, completely oblivious about violating his personal space, and effectively molesting the man's arm to satisfy her curiosity.

2 Spring 519

An early spring day, Crylon let out a sigh rather than an exhale. He could feel the sun beating down on him, a gentle wind having carried the worst of the smoke from the burning heap away so as to let it trickle down.

It was not cold, at least not to his Isurian skin, though Crylon could never tell how it would feel to a human. But then like many winters past this had been a mild one, no snow or true cold and so it was not surprising to find such weather in early spring.

He was still close to the Gem and its area of the city, though heading in the direction of the market. His consideration was to explore its depth once more, but at the moment he felt no urgency. He had worked hard and been busy last season, and could use a few bells of rest. After traveling to the city, arriving, getting a job, and helping to clear land, he was due a short reprieve.

Or at least a few wasted bells with nothing of import to do.

As he walked along he paused before what he took to be a shopfront, peering curiously at its windows. They had heavy bars over the front, more metal covering than glass it seemed. And also somewhat odd, he could not seem to see any actual wares being displayed. He gazed about but no signage was evident, and so he was left to puzzle over what the business was.

It was as he began to take this in, that he noticed someone approaching close within his personal bubble so to speak. Invading upon his presence, a motion out of his peripheral sight.

He had not noticed her following him for the last bit, but he certainly noticed her now. Before he could question her, why she was so close, why she was staring at him-his arm- however she moved even close and began to physically touch him. Or more to the point, his left arm which was his special Isurian arm blessed by Izurdin.

While this limb did not have true full tactile sensation, such would not make sense for a body part that was more less a tool, he could feel the pressure on his limb of her touching and prodding at it.

For a moment he considered jerking his arm out of her reach, but decided against it. Partly because she seemed to show no ill intent, more in truth like curiosity. Partly also though because he knew that if he did so he might accidentally hurt the woman which was not his intent for such a small slight.

He was about to once again respond, when she posed him a question quite unabashedly. One which confused him at once, and made him ponder. And consider why he had never considered it before. What was it made out of?

“I... Is not metal, is flesh. Is flesh in form of gift from Izurdin. Is tool, to better use in make. And what good tool not tough... What made of, question for Izurdin. Is just part of self, grow with rest like rest. Just more... Dense. Dense, and bless by lord Izurdin.”

As if to emphasize this, Crylon bent and unbent his arm a few times, letting her see the ripple of muscle and flesh as he did.

He was wearing the clothing he had bought for the party last season less the mask. Black linen pants and a matching vest without arms and open at the chest to show his musculature and form. Topped off with sandals on his feet.

“Is rude, touch person, without ask. Not here to... Ogle at.”

“Is want something, or just here touch without ask?”

Maria let the arm go and listened to Crylon as he spoke. Curious to hear what the man had to say about his arm. As the words came out, they did so not only with a noticeable accent, it was somewhat off, his grammar. That was when she realized that Common wasn't his first language, which was somewhat interesting for her, as it was the only language she knew. Maria had heard people speaking other languages before, Sunberth being something of a melting pot for people from all over Mizahar. Yet she'd never really picked anything up.

“Is rude, touch person, without ask. Not here to... Ogle at,” Crylon said. She could possibly cuss at someone in a foreign language, but even that was a crap shoot at best. Crylon seemed to be rather perturbed by the fact that she was touching him, and Maria knew that he probably would have been, but the curiosity over the Isurian arm had gotten the better of her. He would likely tell her to leave, or walk away if she didn't say something nice, not Maria's best area. She was used to snarling at people and waving weapons at them, rather than trying to socialize.

“Is want something, or just here touch without ask?” Maria had to resist the urge to laugh, and instead offer Crylon a big smile. She wouldn't have been laughing 'at' the man, but rather his accent. To her it was kind of cute the way he spoke Common. She wondered if all Isurians that spoke Common sounded like Crylon. That was a question that would require knowing more than one Isurian, so it would hold for another day. Dressed in her usual attire of a black shirt and ankle length skirt, with leather boots, she tried to consider something nice to say once more.

“I wasn't trying to ogle you, although you are a fairly nice bit of ogling, just so you know.” What was really going through her mind were a few dozen questions about his arm. “What can you do with that arm? Because that's just like, one of the coolest things I've ever seen. My name's Maria Annacelles Victor Talwa, but you can just call me Maria if you want. Want to be friends? I'd love to talk some more, you look like an interesting person.”

Subtlety in action again, she was about as gentle as someone slapping you with a cactus. In this instance it was due to a lack of interacting with people in a meaningful way very often. Truth be told she didn't even know how to really be a friend to someone. In her mind that meant not killing them, or letting anyone else kill them... and talking. Beyond that the deeper and more personal aspects of any sort of relationship eluded her. That was in part due to the fact she didn't want to know. As her memories drifted in a direction she didn't want to go, Maria blinked a bit and offered Crylon another bright smile, waiting to see how he would react. This encounter was turning out to be interesting, if nothing else. For both her, and Crylon no doubt.

While Crylon was somewhat affronted by her contact, he was somewhat resolved to such actions by humans. Somewhat similar, Crylon thought to himself, to how an adult acted when a child did something childish. They admonished them to not do it again, but realized it was in their nature to do so before being told not to and did not take it personally.

Also, Crylon reminded himself, it was not the first time a random human had come up and started groping his arm. Most seemed to find it odd, and want any excuse to touch it if not usually acting so openly about it as to touch without asking or social correctness to do so.

And it was still preferable to others who took it as a reason for violence, like the humans he had run into with the kelvic the season prior.

Her response was an overly large smile, and a turn of phrase that he half thought was a compliment... Though he could not be sure as he was not clear on her complete intended meaning.

Crylon took a moment to appraise the woman as she spoke. Like most humans she was taller than him, though only by a few inches which marked her as on the small size for a human. Still though, as with the oversized and under dense race, taller compared to an Isur.

Rather than responding at first Crylon simply quirked an eyebrow at her first comment, all the more prominent of an expression due to his Isurian eye ridge. She continued onward ever onward with a steady rain of words peppered on him. As if the human had a roaring ocean within her, waiting to get out.

“What do with arm? I do as want with arm. Is my arm. What you do with your arm?”

Crylon considered her for a moment, giving her name, her full name. Or at least, he considered, a full name. No telling for sure if it was hers, or another persons, or a pseudonym. Maria Annacelles Victor Talwa. As an Isur names had meaning. The lack of names had meaning. Partial names, had meaning. As did false names. Names were a game which the Isur played far deeper than humans in his own experience.

“Is not want be enemies. That good een-nough? Not know long, not if want be friends. Only know like touch without ask.”

“But still not tell, what is want Maria? Or just want know bout arm? Or want make friend? Or want other? What is want?”
