APPEARANCE

Asja stands at 5'9" with slender shoulders and a small chest while her broad hips give her a feminine pear shape. Her body is toned from the rigors of her nomadic life and, due to her Chaktawe anatomy, she is much heavier than she looks. Her face has dark, arched brows and expressive almond eyes. Her nose is broad over full lips, her cheekbones high and round.

Like the rest of her race, her eyes are solid black, lined with thick black lashes, and a secondary set of translucent eyelids. Her skin is muted red-bronze. Her thick, wavy hair falls to the small of her back and which curls in high humidity. Asja most often wears her hair in tiny braids. Asja possesses the thick soles and webbed toes of her race, as well as the tiny freckles along her fingertips which allow her to sense vibrations of movement in the air. Due to harbouring a special organ which stores water, much like a cactus, Asja can go 10 days without water, when she does drink she drinks deeply.

HISTORY

Asja is a daughter of the Kalanue tribe, who dwell in the red-stone desert of Ekytol. She was born to a small tribe who were known for their skills in trade. They travelled the deserts collecting wares, or hunting and crafting themselves, to sell to the proud city of Ahnatep, the humble Benshira herders, and the lively drykas horse-clans.

Asja was five when she first joined her family on a trip to the grasslands. It was in this particular season that the driest of winters caused her tribe to be hit hard by drought. The oases they relied on for survival dwindled down, and the animals they hunted and plants they foraged for sustenance diminished. The tribe went hungry, and spent half the season searching for scarce water. Desperate to replenish, the tribe veered east towards Endrykas and the lush Cyphrus plains.

It was one hot day at market as they were trading goods that a drykas Ankal approached the head of Asja's tribe and offered to take in their elderly and their young; those who were too weak and unlikely to survive the drought. After three days of deep consideration the tribe leaders gratefully accepted the Ankal's offer and Asja stayed with the horse-clans where she spent the rest of her childhood. While with the horse-clans, she learnt to ride horses the drykas way, without tack and saddle, she picked up the tomahawk and took an interest in herbalism.

Asja never speaks of her desert home or the family that never returned to reclaim her, but every now and then the Chaktawe is caught off-guard by nostalgic daydreams of that life. She recalls the harshness of the wind, the rough baked earth, the dramatic ambiance of her people's stories, the rich colour of the Chaktawe's lives. A pervading sense of not-belonging embedded itself into the Chaktawe's bones.

When she reached the age of 'The Searching' Asja felt the undeniable urge to seek her guardian. So the Chaktawe left what had become her family, and joined merchant caravans going east. In SPRING 519AV Asja reaches sprawling Sunberth.

CONCEPT

Moody, emotional, and serious. Asja doesn't know where she belongs, who she is, or who she is meant to be. The uncertainty in her past has left her trembling with insecurity. Asja wears a rough exterior to keep a distance from people and emotions that might cause her heartbreak. Underneath her prickly defences Asja is a sensitive soul, deeply romantic and full of wanderlust.
At her core Asja has a deeply engrained sense of right and wrong, which she will follow to the letter. She is not easily bribed or coerced from what is 'right'. This can sometimes make her quite blunt.

There are moments when her mood is lighter, when others might catch the Chaktawe smiling and her sense of humour catches those around her off-guard. Underneath her insecurity is a fierce and vibrant chaktawe woman, just waiting for the right push and shove to grow into her own.
