Casio Maddox
Appearance
Race: Human
Gender: Male
Age: 28
Birthday: 43, Winter, 490
Birthplace: Sunberth
Appearance: Nearing middle-aged considering the lifestyle those of Sunberth enjoy, Casio's drawn face looks as if he could be nearly a decade older. He stands at a rather tall six feet, three inches, with a build stronger than your average man. Though free of tattoos, brands, or other intentional body modifications, he's got his fair share of healed wounds. His knuckles are probably the most scarred, frequently split from repetitive impacts. On his crooked nose (having been broken multiple times in the past) lies a single, horizontal scar over the bridge of his nose that seems to be his most recent injury.
Rugged in appearance, his dark hair is often cut short, never growing too long. His facial hair follows this trend, his cheeks, chin, and neck not clean-shaven, but not sporting a very bushy beard, either.
Character Concept
Casio's an addict. Addicted to pain, drinking, gambling, cheap whores, fighting... To a lot of destructive vices that can be easily found in the disgusting streets of Sunberth. It's rare to find Casio doing nothing, as he's always active, with his dark, self-deprecating sense of humor, a penchant for lying, and love of all things that a man shouldn't.
Except it isn't love, as much as it might seem. Few actually know why he's got a self-destructive streak that is miles long, and fewer still understand it fully, understand that Casio's a runner. Perpetually running from his past, his thoughts, and his regrets, yet never able to truly escape them.
Character History
Born and raised in Sunberth, Casio's story isn't much different from others in the city of anarchy. He had an absent father and a mother that worked as a barmaid and occasional whore, the pair barely scraping by until Casio got his first job as a runner for a merchant. Then they were able to live a little more comfortable, but not too much more. It was their life for years, up until Casio was nearly a man, and they lived simply until his mother died of a disease that destroyed her body and mind.
Without his mother's steady source of income, his life became a little harder, but he had only himself to support. And while he missed his mother, he kept doing as he was before. Surviving, but not living. Moving from day to day with little variation in his life.
That is, until a misunderstanding forced Casio into a streetfight. His years of running and moving heavy objects for the merchant gave him enough of an edge that he won, with some difficulty, but with enough skill that his boss took him to Tall Johnny's and threw him into the ring. Nothing too serious, nothing to the death, of course. And not too much money bet on the boy.
But he won. So they did it again. And again. And again and again, until he almost became a regular, fighting other novices until one laid unconscious and the other was able to walk out and take the money they were owed. Casio won his fair share, and lost his share, as well. But it was more money than he had been making before, and even more when he stopped fighting for the merchant and now for himself and himself only.
And then he met Raina by chance in the markets. A beautiful Vanthan woman, dark-haired and fair-skinned, that he became absolutely smitten with. She was like a radiant beam of light in a rolling fog of dark. He didn't know why such a person would willingly be in Sunberth, but regardless, he gave his go a few times, until she agreed to go out on as good a date as a Sunberthian boy could take her on.
The rest, they might say, is history. They promptly fell in love, though she heavily disagreed with his new line of work. They lived happily for a time, Casio no longer simply surviving but now living a relatively nice life.
All good things come to an end, he learned one short night after coming back from a fight. The door to his home was broken in, and the few items he and the love of his life possessed were strewn about violently, broken and pitiful things now, the obvious signs of a struggle. There was little to the event that he was privy to, only that that morning was the last he'd seen his love, that night was the worst of his life, competing with the day his mother died, and with the sun's rising he learned of Morwen's absence and the bounty on the Vantha, on his beloved Raina. But in a place like Sunberth, he'd never learn what really happened that night, and he'd likely never see her face again.
