The sun had receded behind the horizon and the sky had become dark and full of bright stars. The dusk resting hours had just ended. The streets were scattered with people who were returning home or leaving there home. A moist dew lingered in the air and puddles were dispersed throughout the streets from the rain that had passed.
Dev'Ania was wearing her silk, yellow dress and black heels from the dinner she attended at the Parker Residence during the Mid-Winter Festival. Walking through the city, she had to hop over puddles to avoid wetting her feet. She was on her way to the Scholar’s Demise, in search of employment there. She loved fortune-telling, but it wasn’t earning her enough funds at the moment. She wanted to open up her own shop, but to do that, she would need to raise a lot more money. In the meantime, she would have to get a stable job elsewhere.
For the past couple of days, she had been searching for a place of employment. With no luck, she had begun to give up, until she fathomed a great way to earn herself money. Performing as a singer. Lots of people in the city did so every day, gathering crowds of people in the plaza. Dev was going to perform there but decided against it. Too many people, much more talented than Dev, performed in the plaza. She would surely be overlooked.
Earlier in the day, she had been walking through the city when she heard the sound of music coming from a building. Following the sound, she came upon the Scholar's Demise, giving her the bright idea to perform there. She would have asked then and there, but she realized she wasn't exactly presentable.
From the outside of the tavern, the cool, blue glow of candlelight could be seen through the skyglass windows. Coming upon the entrance, no music could be heard from inside, but the laughter and chatter from within could be felt outside.
Entering through the wooden door, you are welcomed by the joy of everyone and the smell of alcohol and food. The bartender, busy behind the bar, managed to give Dev a short, welcoming wave. Dev walked up to the bar and took a seat on an empty stool.
"Hello. Is there someone here I could talk to about possible employment?" Dev'Ania directed the question to the bartender making a drink.
The bartender was a beautiful Ethaefal woman with horns similar to a ram's. "That would be me." The woman finished mixing a drink, wiping her hands with a cloth and extending it to Dev'Ania. "Aleah. And you are?"
Dev shook the woman's hand. "I'm Dev'Ania. Or Dev. Whichever you prefer. I was wondering if I could work as a singer here. And maybe give some extra help as a barmaid?"
"Hm, just your lucky day. One of our performers hasn't shown up and we are quite busy tonight. Usually, I would ask a couple of questions before hiring someone, but I do need the help. How soon can you start?"
"Oh, I can start right now," Dev replied.
"Perfect. Just perform whenever you want, for now. When you aren't performing, just clean up the tables, give refills and such. " Aleah began mixing another drink for a customer. "That should be all for now. Later, we will sort everything out with a proper schedule and training. Oh, and there is an extra apron back here if you need it. Wouldn't want to get that pretty dress ruined by wine."
