Character ConceptNadjia's family are full of passionate storytellers and musicians, an area she lacked true proficiency. Instead, she developed an aptitude for academic study and writing. Curiosity for knowledge sake, her dream is unfettered access to the Bharani library. Seldom outspoken, she finally admitted that her ambition is to be given the opportunity to be initiated into the order of Seekers, but fears she won’t be given a mark or acknowledged. For now, she is content to write and scribe for others.
Character HistoryHer mother’s family were originally Talderan, many of whom were artisans and bards. What they lack in riches, were made up in imaginative stories told around the hearth and meal times. Her father was Kalean and was eager to settle back in Lhavit.
Nadjia’s father and family were craftsmen and artists who would provide for the family in a variety of jobs she remembered — papermaker and calligrapher among them. Her mother and other family members were performers, musicians, and at times buskers. Somehow, there was always just enough food on the table and a few indulgences that made her feel like they were seldom struggling to survive.
When it appeared that Nadjia travailed with delivering stories of a fantastical and entertaining nature, and lacked the nuanced charms to be a gifted musician, she was encouraged to develop other talents.
One clear midsummer day, Nadjia was walking home with her uncle (a family friend really) and the Skyglass exterior of the grand library gleamed especially bright and she wandered in through the front entrance. Never had she seen so many books in one place, it was dizzying. She marched up to the immaculate carved desk and inquired as how one might be given permission to read them all. The white haired lady at the desk might have been amused or annoyed, it’s hard to recall.
Later, her Uncle recounted the tale to her parents (exaggerated, no doubt) and her education in writing began not long after, as a way to give back in exchange for pursuing their vast catalog of subjects. She recorded a number of her family's stories over the seasons, but there were some earlier ones passed down orally in what she eventually learned to be Ancient Tongue. It required a lot of assistance from her Uncle to finally decipher the stories meanings, trying to write it down was even more difficult.
Now, at Nineteen, Nadjia is leaving familial comforts to devote herself to the pursuit of knowledge and perhaps make a friend or two along the way.
