Treasures of The Sea

Treasures of The Sea
ImageNestled beside the general store on west street sits a small wooden two story building. One of the few shops in the University Quarter not made of granite; it stands out like an Akalak on the Konti isle. A small unassuming sign outside meekly named the shop "Treasures of the Sea". It has since been removed, leaving the building boarded up and empty.

For a time, when sailors arrived in Zeltiva for trade they would often bring back trinkets from distant lands, odds and ends collected along the way, all these items ended up at Raleaph's shop. Treasures’ boasted of a large assortment of junk, everything ranging from copper pots and pans full of dents to baby rattles made of bone. You could have found just about anything at Treasures; even if you weren't looking for it.

The owner would have told you that every item has a story; a wonderful history that exists beyond the reaches of time and space. The good news to ease the nervous traveler is that these stories were rarely true. As soon as a customer picked up even the most unassuming piece of scrap Raleaph would be off telling a sweeping epic involving mages, evil creatures and plants that sing to explorers. Child-like wonder shone behind big brown eyes. He had such an innocence that the customer cannot help but buy the most precious item that they held in their hands. Who knows?Mmaybe behind the useless trinkets something real and valuable might’ve surfaced...

After the Djed Storm, rough times hit the shop. The storm had not only stunted trade in the region, but it had also spooked potential customers away from the mystery of the shop. The once harmless idea that one could acquire anything, magic or otherwise, in this shop had become threatening and daunting. Sailor’s stopped selling their trinkets, and Raleaph found his store empty, day after day. Finally in Winter of 514AV, Raleaph let his shop close, unable to pay taxes on it any longer. The windows were boarded, the sign was taken down, and a hefty lock was placed on the door. Many saw Raleaph moving out the bulk of his items prior to the closing, and so it is assumed he took everything with him. Still, teenage vandals had taken up partying in the shop’s ruin in the late hours of the night, often needing to be broken up by the Wave Guard. Although the shop is on West Street, and thus prime property, the stigma surrounding it had not allowed it to be resold yet.

All that remains when one looks at the shop is the rotting door with its giant lock, and the overgrown plant that once sat neatly on its doorstep, now shrouding out the entrance to the old Treasure’s shop. Rumor has that one can still find Raleaph gambling at the Kelp Bar, and if they play their cards right, they can earn one of his notorious trinkets from a game.
