Copper skin and blue eyes. Thick eyebrows and brown hair. Standing and often walking with a watchful look, rarely settling around strangers. The life of the desert is evident in his skin, though only in his twenties, his hands are dry and the fingers rough not soft. The same goes for Akorcho's nose and around his eyes which were often exposed to long periods in the dry sun. Character Concept Chaktawe have deep spiritual connections with the desert but not the water? One Chaktawe sort to change what he saw as an imbalance. They called him Bynarako The Watergiver. Named affectionately and a bit lightheartedly after his nature to find water in the deepest deserts at very long ranges. His large family were not as gifted as he, but in their own way they took up their personal searches or quests. One among that fated family was called Akorcho. Named after the scorching sand river which burns those who touch its surface. The same dune river that shows the way through a very valuable trade and hunting route for many travelers. It was on one of these journeys that Akorcho developed his own curiosity but more of that later. A Spiritual Honor Code. Defining itself through roleplay. Shadows. Chapter 0: Backstory Chaktawe prefer tracking, often preferring to roam. Akorcho feels this spiritual pull but instead sits and reads. We should start with why. Having a somewhat famous father Bynarako The Watergiver was a big reputation to live up to. In his infantile years, Akorcho was spoiled with many gifts of thanks. Like many Chaktawe they had a very big family and bigger still because of their father's great success in finding water, the lifeblood of the desert peoples. Food, clothing, safety and even comfort were commonplace in his youth. This in part explains why Akorcho can stomach owning a fixed property in a major town, as he was more used than most of his people to living in more luxurious surroundings. At around the age of thirteen, the watergiver left with his family to better study the ocean. A vision had come to him, showing him scales, water, and sand. The fire being out of balance inside of him, then reflected in the wider world around them, and their many droughts. It was around this time that the abuse of his children was more visible. Less physical abuse, although that did occur, and more verbal chastising. Belittling of emotions, wants or ambitions. Up to this point, the people closest to the watergiver had accepted his bombastic temperament as he had saved many lives in dry seasons, with his unusual ability to locate water at vast ranges. During this abusive time, the family guardian was extremely torn, as it felt responsible for several of the tribe. Sadly it appeared less and less almost fading to memory. On one fated trip. Following his guardian's passage to shadow into an abandoned house, it was here Akorcho saw his first shadow creature. Whether it was a monster, a ghost a sign or vision who can say but it fascinated him. The young teenager's attention turned to study rather than depression, to investigation rather than self-pity. All of these feelings exist of course but they were recreated in his work and expressed another way. Eventually, his identity as a spiritual scholar and hunter balanced itself. He learned to appreciate investigations into the unknown or unseen. For example, being taught magic by one of the larger extended family to better speak to ghosts, to have eyes where he could not see. To tinker with creations which move on their own. Having little social life he has had time to dedicate himself to his ongoing magical and martial studies. Forming a small team of investigators, his sister, and now familiar among them. Like his father sort to answer the question of the balance of fire and water, Akorcho, or Dato as he prefers to be called, seeks to understand the balance between shadow and fire, time's grasp on both loss and rebirth. The unknown and how it changes the known is of keenest interest to him. Practically he seeks stability, for himself, his family and to keep his studies away from prying eyes. With this detached nature to him, security is a huge concern, as is secrecy and the protection of this large family, especially from his father's own outbursts. Trust does not come quickly and motives are usually guarded, but his honorable side is heavily encouraged by his uncle. An uncle who taught Dato the basics of how to defend himself early on, not only physically but more mentally, to heal or at least try. The same man that guides him on matters of magic.
