I decided to work on some herps (reptiles and amphibians) for Wind Reach, so they're going here until I can flesh them out a little more and get feedback.
Kalean Rockhopper
A small species of frog found in the lower altitudes, the Kalean Rockhopper is often seen on hunts and a frequent snack of the smaller birds of prey. It feeds on insects. Its coloration provides easy camoflauge among the rocks, and is known for its vibrant blue eyes. It is an old folk legend that a pregnant woman who eats a set of Rockhopper eyes will grant her children the same blue eyes. It typically grows no larger than a fingernail, but rumors have it that one valley in particular houses Rockhoppers that can reach the size of small dogs. Their calls are shrill squeals that often resemble a baby's cry.
Name: Kalean Rockhopper
Type: Amphibian
Location: Valleys
Frequency: Uncommon
Appearance: Gray-brown thin frog with deep blue eyes of varying shades.
Purposes: Edible but not worth catching for food due to size.
Dangers: Very safe.
Skyinarta Tunnel Toad
The Skyinarta Tunnel Toad is most often found within the caves of Wind Reach. It gives off a faint glow that increases when threatened. This glow is produced by glands in the skin that release the toxic substance. It feeds on anything that can fit into its mouth and is known to grow to the size of a person's hand. It produces a deep grumbling "whoop" when calling.
Name: Skyinartan Tunnel Toad
Type: Amphibian
Location: Caves, particularly Wind Reach
Frequency: Common
Appearance: Fat, pale toad with a faint purple glow that intensifies when threatened.
Purposes: The toxic glowing substance can be used as a paint or dye, but care must be taken to avoid being poisoned.
Dangers: The toxin released causes painful cramps and headache, but only through injestion.
Golden Glider
Golden Gliders make their home in the mountains and trees, posessing a unique ability to fly through the air for short periods of time. Its calls sound similar to a loud tapping.
Name: Golden Glider
Type: Amphibian
Location: Forests, Low-to-Mid Altitudes
Frequency: Common
Appearance: Long limbs with large, webbed feet for gliding.
Purposes: None
Dangers: Safe
Kalean Fire Lizard
These lizards are found only in the warmest reaches of Kalea, especially in Mount Skyinarta. They can often be found running along walls or dozing near heat vents. Identifieable by their bright red backs that indicate air quality, a useful feature for workers building tunnels.
Name: Kalean Fire Lizard
Type: Reptile
Location: Volcanic Caves
Frequency: Common
Appearance: Light brown with a red back. More vibrant red = better air quality.
Purposes: Indicator for air quality, useful for those building Wind Reach's caverns and tunnels.
Dangers: Not dangerous, but not reccomended for consuption for their backs hold a neurotoxin when consumed. If prepared correctly, however, they are said to taste incredible.
