There's something so poignant and yet awkward about two people trying to re-establish themselves when time and space have torn them apart. These two characters have had very complex convoluted lives, and yet here they are coming together once more, trying to establish common ground between them again.
I also think the writing in this thread is stellar in that it conveys a mood and paints a vivid picture for the reader that can be lacking in other writing. You completely understand the scene, the tension, and the pressure involved in the whole situation. This thread is not finished, but I do believe its one of my favorites for all of the things I've listed above.
