Falim, my fellow Benshirans! Av-berkaven, one and all. Let's sit down and celebrate what makes us great!
This character is the very first character I played on Mizahar, and I chose his race for a simple reason: compared to all of the wonderful, outlandish races that occupy this game, from shape-shifting animals to blue, all-male warriors, to giant, peaceful, hyper-intelligent gorillas, the Benshiran seemed downright homely. At first, that seems like an insult, but at the time I thought it was hugely important. The Benshirans were grounded in real-world Middle Eastern cultures, cultures that I've grown hugely fascinated by over the years. They didn't have much use for magic, they didn't have a complex psychology to understand, they didn't have neat boons to play with like Wind Eagles or automatic Gnosis marks; their defining traits were their hospitality, prejudice, and their strong emphasis on family. I've often found that in fantasy settings, I grow uninterested in the more bizarre aspects and relate, most strongly, to the characters that I can picture in the real world - in the strange and terrific world of Mizahar, the Benshirans provide our imaginations with a firm foundation.
Over time, I fell in love with the race. I got invested in their city and culture, I took great interest in picking apart individual Benshiran PCs and seeing what other spins people took on the concept, and I devoted my character fully to the Benshiran patron deity, Yahal. I fully believe that if there's a "good" aligned race on Mizahar, the Benshirans come in a close second to the Konti - they're known for being incredibly generous while also living in a
massive and inhospitable desert, for crying out loud!
I've gone and appropriated the awesome
