The Outpost is filled with nooks and crannies of great beauty. This sunken courtyard filled with a water garden is no exception. Nearly a full quarter acre, this garden is accessible by four stairways leading down at each quarter. Located adjacent to the hanging gardens, the water garden is particularly beautiful at night with Syna's light reflected in its smooth waters. The caretaker, Niama, turns off the fountains at dawn and dusk so the gardens become a giant reflecting pool.
Surrounding the pool is a large walkway where four people can pass comfortably abreast. There are benches and flowers everywhere. Four tiny bridges allow visitors to access a central area in the center of the pool where another walkway runs its length between three giant purple Kalin trees. The trees flower almost continuously which perfumes the garden with a musky scent that has hints of citrus. Their purple flowers have bright orange centers and are reminiscent of tulips.
The water garden is open at all hours. It is patrolled routinely by the Keiss. People picnic, read, and even meditate within its walls. Its caretaker is often found working with the plants and tending the pool.
At the west end of the gardens is a small caretaker's cottage occupied by a young Konti woman who does most of the maintenance in the water gardens. She is friendly, approachable, and loves to talk about the plants and animals that make the gardens their home.
