Winter 520 AV Calendar
Welcome to Riverfall my friends and steel yourselves for winter is upon us. Although it has been long since the land has known Morwen’s touch, the winters in Riverfall are no less difficult. In fact you could say they are more so as the weather has become more and more unpredictable the longer Morwen remains absent. One notable difference about this winter that sets it apart from all others is that the great Bluevein river is at the lowest it has ever been recorded. Other smaller branches have already dried up, and there is a very real fear that the Bluevein will drop even lower.
Water rationing has gone into effect across the city with priority given to greenery that provides over those that are simply aesthetically pleasing. Fountains have been shut off, and each family is alloted a certain amount of water for the day according to their need. The Kuvay’Nas has stepped up patrols across the city to enforce this and to help dole out the allotments.
Unfortunately, this is not the only problem to plague the city for the previous season had been wracked by a dry thunderstorm that depleted a significant portion of their grain harvest. Emissaries were sent to Syliras to procure more but are not expected back until late in the season. So for now the normal winter grain rations have been restricted even further, and are likewise only being handed out to citizens of Riverfall. Expecting discontent, the council has implemented certain programs that will allow non-citizens to earn their ration each day in exchange for menial labor around the city. There is still damage to repair from the storms that wracked the city last fall so there is ample opportunity for non-citizens to find work.
Still there are rumblings of discontent, and talk among the Kuvay’Nas about rounding up the non-citizens to be sequestered near the base of the cliff so as to make them easier to manage. Whether this rumor is true or not, certain non-citizens have taken it upon themselves to organize small to medium sized gatherings where they are reported to be trying to stir up discontentment. The Kuvay’Nas have been effective at breaking up these gatherings so far, but if they continue to multiply they strain the already stretched resources of the Kuvay’Nas. In response the Kuvay’Nas have begun to energetically recruit members into the lodge, even pulling mentors from the academy to fill their ranks so long as they have the necessary skills to contribute to the organization.
While the Kuvay’Nas’resources have been stretched thin with all of this, the city suffers further from unexplainable disappearances throughout the city. The only similarity between them is that the people who disappear have worked on or near the water. The bay has been search, however not as thoroughly as many would like simply because there is not enough time or people to commit to the task.
Finally to compound matters, harsh winds have begun to render the sea gate sporadically impassable. Those ships that try risk taking serious damage against the rocks or capsizing. Monitoring when it is safe to make passage has been deemed a priority by the Council, and a standing garrison has been established atop the cliffs, and along the base to keep the city apprised of this fickle windows of time where it is safe for a ship to pass. At the times the passage has been deemed safe, a signal fire with be lit at the base and top of the cliff to inform ships that they may make the passage.

Winter 520 AV Weather:
The residual cool Fall weather lingers over Riverfall as periodic high winds come across the Suvan sea to buffet the city. For the first half of winter, between the 1st - 45th of Winter, the skies are kept mostly clear as near constant strong winds maroon the sailors within the city. Then on the 46th - 48th a fierce storm surges through causing minor damage throughout the city with the sole exception being made for the Blue Bull by the land gate which suffers significant damage to its roof. After the storm, the winds die down somewhat while a thick humidity moves into the city while the air starts to warm up markedly. Soon Rivarian’s find themselves wearing Spring clothes in the midst of Winter only for the weather to fluctuate again with the return of high winds on 61st of Winter. These continue throughout the rest of the season with sporadic breaks that are as unpredictable as this winter weather has been so far.
