Gormyr Snowsong
Appearance
Race: Human, Vantha
Gender: Male
Age: 25
Birthday: 45th of Fall, 496 AV
Birthplace: Avanthal
Job: Laborer 2GM/Day (Primary skill: Body building)
Appearance: Instead of being seen, he is most often smelled and heard. His left leg drags a bit as he walks. The movement is often followed by an inconsistent hobble. His posture is hunched and clothes warm, but ragged. Tones of earth and dirt define him. His hair is a tangled mess of dark, just shy of a collar length. The face is dirty and often smudged with soil. Calloused hands and a thick neck betray a stronger build, but people rarely dwell. He is often followed by the smell of the unwashed and avoided by those who do. Most of him is weathered, and while to the eyes he is sandpaper, his voice is a rare and quiet silk.
Character Concept
There were two bears to every man, but only one of them made it to the Icewatch. That one would’ve stood proud and strong and obvious to the world. Vantha needed to learn that to survive was to let the stronger bear hibernate and die. The proud and the strong were the first to get taken. Despite the poetry, there was no appeal in dying, even if there were people waiting on the other side of the cycle. To die would be to let them win, and even the hibernating bear wouldn’t let that come to pass. The ice has long since melted, and anything solid and firm has since changed in his character. He became like water and adapted to the shape he’d been left with.
Character History
Three children were born to Gorak Snowsong and Yra Whitewine. These were the children of the Watch, as both the parents were claimed by a life of service. The boy came first, and the pair of sisters came only two years later, twinned. There were some evil tongues proposing that the boy wasn’t his father son at all and was instead planted by Yra’s bondmate, Mrall. The bear was the toughest of his generation, so was never needlessly provoked to his face, but rumors did spread. No one remembers whether it was the child’s original name, but as one final act of spite, his parents raised him Gormyr.
The two sisters, Syra and Myra were often seen as an incarnation of the Kelwyn themselves. Seeing one could’ve proven to be good luck or ill, but seeing both had always meant a commotion.
Early childhood was tough and driven, but gratifying. All three of them were raised with hopes of someday being as strong as the bears they hoped to bond.
It was puberty that showed this family the difference between blood and ice. Teenage blood was especially hot, and for the sisters it boiled over into wanderlust. Leaving their frozen home behind, they left for the world ahead. No one could be sure where they went exactly, but letters would occasionally arrive. They would always write of happiness and joint adventures of the wide world. They were so exciting. They were all written by the same hand.
As he came of age, Gormyr would have Morwen’s hand placed upon his shoulder. The initial disappointment of her touch being in such an unremarkable place would soon enough turn to luck. 516 came and Morwen disappeared. Mrall died in the first serious skirmish with the outsiders. Gorak would lose the feeling in his legs, and Yra – well she was never quite the same.
Avanthal was no longer a home. It was a cage, and spears prodded between every pair of bars. What was once muted became valuable in the dark days to come, and grateful that clothes could cover the target painted on his back, Gormyr too fled the cage. Following in the trails of his sister’s letters, he was brought to Zeltiva.
He’s been there since, wondering whether it’d be Kel or Wyn he found – if he ever found anything at all.
