Character Concept
Vest, or Vest for short, is an outspoken and unapologetic girl. She believes everyone, including herself, is in the process of growth and discovery and will refuse to censor her words and actions. She aims to drive people into understanding their flaws while also helping to understand hers. One would say she has a mentorship mentality but with no desire to become a mentor.
She currently is focused on increasing her bow and falconry skills, as well as her hunting skill as well. Her goal is to become self sufficient enough where she can travel the world without an escort or in merchant parties.
Character History
Vest left her village at the age of 14 to explore the world some more, believing that her calling was somewhere out there. Packing up her things, Vest grabbed her mothers pet bird Gerald, and convinced a traveling merchant to let her tag along. While she traveled with the merchants, she was able to provide the group food by using her short bow, cutting back on some of their costs. She was also able to practice with her bird more freely than she was at home, working on simple commands and slowly getting to know her bird on her own.
Over the course of her six months of travel with the merchants, Vest had started trying to trap her very own hawk. Once the merchants had found a place to settle down for a while, she put her knowledge to use. Grabbing the falconry gear she brought with her from home and a basket she 'borrowed' from one of the merchant ladies, Vest set out to try and catch a falcon. She did so by setting her trap with live bait and adding rocks to the rim so it wouldn't be lifted up when the bird grabbed the bait. This part of the plan was successful a few times, but it was getting close enough to grab the hawk that she was having trouble with. So she modified her basket and added string to the outside in hopes that it would tangle the bird's feet enough for her to get close.
This method was actually successful, that is to say in tangling the bird up. Approaching and catching the bird was a different story, and she had to get help from a piece of cloth by tossing it over the bird to block it's view of her approach. It stopped flapping wildly after that and she was able to get some jesses and a hood on it before wrapping it in the cloth and toting it back to camp in the basket. She showed everyone that she was traveling with and they all congratulated her, giving small tidbits of knowledge or some concerns about the trap. However, now she had no way of actually keeping this bird as she had no cage. And keeping it trapped in a basket wasn't an option as it was way too small according to some of the people she traveled with and could easily be torn apart. So, with a heavy heart, she went back out to release the bird, removing the jesses and hood beforehand.
It was at this moment when she knew she had to find a permanent home, and therefore she broke off from the group and went into Sunberth. It was while she walked through the fields when she met an elderly man returning to his cabin with a large pile of freshly hunted animals. Vest's eyes glittered when she saw this and she eagerly scurried up to the man and requested mentorship from him and in return she would do all his house chores. Being surprised at first, the elderly man laughed at her request and eagerness before accepting her offer and inviting her in. She was only under his mentorship for a year and a half before he passed away from old age.
