“Mmm, good to know.”

She said it almost absentmindedly as she stepped up to the dummy to practice again. She was taking it slow and steady today as she wanted to really envision the results and memorize the techniques that went into it. If she could commit these to memory, then she would have a better chance to use them in real combat again. The only issue is she couldn't fully get the experience unless she practiced with another body. And the other body she had around was a chatty one and she just didn't know how to get a handle on that. Actually, it wasn't because they were chatty, it was more of them just being strangers and how they suddenly came about. She stopped after a chime or two and gnawed on her lip before turning to the man.

“Would you like to spar? I have torn the stuffing of this dummy to shreds, plus I need something with movement.” Eva looks at the man as she sheathes her dagger and pulls out a well made wooden one from her thigh holster. “Promise Ill go easy on you with this wooden dagger here.”

She waved around the tip a bit and put her free hand on her hip. If he accepted, Eva would lead him a pit away from the house and take up a casual yet serious stance as she would call it. She would spread and plant her feet a bit wider than her shoulders, with her left foot closer to the man and her right one at the back. Her right hand held her knife, which she kept close to her body and more towards her hip. Her other hand was more relaxed but alert, ready to strike if he were to come at her.

Now, if he were to deny her request to spar, or suggest they use actual daggers over the wooden ones, then Eva would only shrug and nod her head. She would then sheathed her dagger and walk over to the dummy, fiddling with it until she was able to tie up and half ass patch the holes she had made. She would then go back to training, this time, she would try a lunge then a slash combination to see how bad the results were.

A Dagger in and a Dagger out - Lance

Lance shrugged. It was worth a try, him opening up. He was just trying to get to know this lady some, but she was a completely closed book. He wondered why he was hanging around at all. He could find wall to attack for all he cared. He was starting to get into a sour mood, but shook it off and pushed a smile on his face.

“Sure.” He said.

He got up and pulled the fake knife back out of his backpack. He took up a closed stance from in front of the lady. His right hand held the knife and his left arm was up as a guard. His shoulders were shoulder width apart and pointed forwards.

He was starting to feel a little more nervous. It had been a while since he had fought someone, and his skills were practically zero. He quickly launched out with his right hand, a stab towards her front arm. In a knife fight any injury could help, pain, and if a muscle can be damaged enough it could make an entire limb useless. If she copied the attack, he was ready to pull his front arm back and start to circle his opponent.

Every move was something he had only practiced once. His moves were lousy, slow, and something that was only practiced against stationary targets. He didn’t do too bad last time he had spared, he was even able to draw at the end of his last fight. He wasn’t sure he was going to be able to do any of that here. He had no idea about her capability, no idea at all really. A moving target was completely different that one that stayed still.

The fake knife was lighter than the iron one. He felt that might give him a little of an advantage. He could move quick, jab and attack. Pulling it back. Not to mention he didn’t have to worry that much about getting cut or anything with the wooden blade. His last sparring match didn’t end up in a wrestling match, but he’d seen it happen before.

To Eva, the attack was like the young boys in the city that she encountered. They had the same speed and coordination, but back then, they fought with deadly intent. Eva just felt like this man was annoyed with her, and while it wasnt as intense, it gave her the push she needed to take this more seriously than just a common spar. When he thrusted forward, she dodged to the left and swiped up with her dagger in an attempt to parry him off to the side. Her goal was to do something she had heard about in the tavern when people would talk about bar fights. Use the opponent's weight to your advantage.

With her body twisting, she pressed her free hand to the back of the man's neck during his thrust forward and pushed him into his thrust. It was a gamble on if it would work, and on the chance that it did, Eva would watch the man stumble forward just a bit. If it happened to fail, then all Eva would be doing is shoving the man to the side and away from her. Either way, it would give her time to readjust her footing and ready herself for the next move. With a wider step, she used her non-dominant leg to rush into the core of the man and brought her dagger in to jab at his leg.

She was starting low, a new thing she suddenly decided to do on the fly, and was going to see how it turned out. Once again, it was a gamble. If she was able to land the attack, then the muscles in his leg could bruise up and tighten. It would be very painful for the first few minutes as the cramped muscles throbbed. It was not an experience that Eva quite liked herself. But then again, there was the possibility of it failing, and with failure comes consequences. Eva knew this, but this was how she was going to learn.

A Dagger in and a Dagger out - Lance

Postby Lance Windhelm on November 14th, 2023, 5:28 pm

Lance lunged forwards and felt the woman’s hand push him from behind. Before he knew it he was simply stepping to stay balanced. So if face wouldn’t plant into the ground. He hadn’t had this much trouble last time he spared, but it was also a few months ago, and in a different environment. They were students. This was a stranger. Who knew her intentions at the end of the day, and it gave the whole thing an air of worry for Lance.

As he caught himself he swung back around, balancing his stance and looking back towards his opponent. He would lung again forwards, this time the woman spun around and struck his leg with her dagger. He couldn’t do anything but bend his leg and take a knee in the dirt. A hiss on his breath. Pain shot up his leg for a moment as he gripped it.

“Yeah. That’s going to bruise.” He thought as he rubbed gently.

He took a deep breath and stood back up. He was going to get her this time. His stance was sharp. Trying to stay tight, but lose enough to strike when he needed it. He was thinking that he could get a feel for the woman and the way she attacked. He tried to look at her center, to pay attention to each detail of her body, read her. He lunged forwards, his knight in his right hand, before him, and struck at her guard. His feet were well balanced, if the woman tried to pull him off balance, he would strike at her belly with his knife. If she moved he would start to circle her like a shark would prey.

Lance took deep breaths. Trying to calm himself in between outbursts of energy. It was tiring this sparring. It felt like it was going on forever, but he knew it had to only had been a minute or less. His body movement were just exaggerated and took much energy. A mistake only a new fighter would make. Expert fighters could contain there energy. Use it only when they needed to. But his was leaking from his body like water from a bucket full of holes.

Eva watched as he lunged forward and struck out at her arm that was guarding her. Logically, one would dodge an attack in a real knife fight, but she wanted to see what would happen if she walked into his attack. With that thought in mind, she took a step forward and allowed the man to hit her arm. She hissed in pain as his hit was harder than she was expecting, and if he was wielding an actual knife then she would have definitely been in some serious trouble. However, she didn't let this opportunity slip away, as she used that arm to grab his and looked him in the eye.

“I am impressed by your skills.”

That was the only thing she said before she tried something she only ever pictured in her head. Gripping the mans arm tighter, she planted her foot into his gut then dropped her weight to the ground. If successful, the man would be pulled forward over Eva’s body and the foot in his gut would serve as a tipping point. She would bend her knee slightly before pushing it up and over to try and launch the man over her head and on his back. When he would land, he would then notice that he had come dangerously close to the edge of the cliff.

However, if she failed, she would basically be clinging to this mans arm as she had a foot in his gut and was trying to pull him down. Embarrassment would flood over her soon and she eventually would let go, falling on the ground and wincing when the air was knocked out of her. She would then narrow her eyes at the man before skittering up and getting back into position.
