Maya Frostfawn
Appearance
Race: Nuit
Gender: Female
Age: 53
Birthplace: Avanthal, (as a human, Vantha), Sahova as a Nuit
Birthday: Summer 3, 470 AV
Height: 5'7"
Body Type: Lean
Appearance:
Maya stands at roughly 5'9 and has an extremely slender frame; she appears emaciated. She is currently inhabiting the body of a former mother, who looks to be in her late thirties, or perhaps her early forties. She has short blonde hair that falls nearly to her shoulders, it is mainly straight, but there is a gentle wave at its heart. Her eyes are a grey-green, pale in nature, ringed with purple as though she has not slept in quite some time. Her body's skin is pale and dry, her lips, their slender pink mirror.
Character Concept
In life, Maya had been exuberant, a being abounding with energy and a bubbly and friendly personality. In her life between worlds, everything has changed and she finds it hard to recall, especially now, having spent so long within her mortal coil, what emotions really feel like. While she is not incapable of feeling emotion, everything has dulled with each passing moment, and she finds that she feels detached from everything--the others she encounters, the things she once loved, and especially her feelings. While many of her kind seek to acquire magic, power, and new skills, she seeks to acquire the answers to a very specific set of questions--specifically, what about the process of becoming a Nuit, changing one's physical composition, causes them to become so detached. For their personalities and interests to change, what she feels is so sharply, between life and unlife.
Character History
Life had been different before. She had been different before. Exuberant, lost in a world filled with numerous sensations whose memory was starting to fade alongside everything else.
_____
She was born in 470 AV to Tara & Tenvil Frostfawn. Maya was both born and raised in the cold, molded by it even. She grew up without siblings, but close ties to her parents as well as the other members of her hold in particular. And as she grew, she was taught to tend to animals and to hunt, although she never took to it, she still loved the creatures she was introduced to, especially the feel of their fur. She loved all soft and fluffy things, and had a soft spot in her heart for anything cute and cuddly. She loved playing with the other children, and loved her winter Queen, which gave all of her people her gift, if only they bothered to ask for it. At 16, she was married to Tovar Frostfawn, and they had a short and happy marriage but no children--he died tragically in a terrible hunting accident roughly two years into their marriage. Maya never wished to remarry, and thankfully, she was never forced to.
_____
In 499 AV, a fire claimed the stables and many animals were killed. Although she was not at fault, many suspected her and she could not live with the shame. Although it was a hard decision, Maya chose to leave Avanthal behind and see if she could begin life anew, elsewhere.
____
The world became a place to wander, sometimes alone, sometimes with others she encountered in her travels. Until one day in the early summer of 500 AV when she was captured by slavers and shipped off to Sahova for goodness knows what.
A pulser, a subject, an impending vessel of Sahova. A tortured soul turned from prey to predator, a human into what many would consider a monster for reasons that still elude her.
That was in 501 AV. And for many years after that, Maya knew little more than four walls, the scent of ink and old books. The scratching of a quill on parchment. Darkness illuminated by flickering candlelight. Solitude, punctuated by the occasional unwanted guest. And an endless list of questions, impossible to remember in its entirety as her research continued to pull her in one opposing direction after another.
Until now… when she decided that she needed a change.
