Finally the trip through the Wildlands was over. Kendall could finally relax. All the interesting, but equally strange people he had met in the lands were behind him. He looked forward to the city and gazed in wonder. "So this is Syliras. The big city." His father had told him all about this city but he had never gotten the chance to see it. It was just as great as he had heard. It was much different than his home town of Zeltiva.

The travel had been long and quite tiring but Kendall had been accompanied by some good travelers. Sondra and Cathan had proved that were formitable companions in the Wildlands. If there was anywhere a person could prove their worth as a friend, or even a companion it was in the Wildlands. He he trusted these people with his life and he did not even know them very well. He gave a forced smile to the guards standing at the gates and nodded at Cathan's remark. "He is with me." Kendall had began to feel quite close to the Kelvic and he wanted to make sure he would not find trouble in the city.

As Kendall walked through the gates he felt a wave of relief wash over him. "No one knows me here. This is a new start for me." Syliras would be easier, or at least that is what he thought. In this city he was not that weird blonde guy that just showed up out of nowhere. He was just, that blonde guy. As odd as it was, he liked that. He was the only Kendall Saarinen in the whole city. It was not that common of a name. The first steps into the city were some of the happiest he had taken in a long time. He smiled as he looked at the city. This was a new era, at least in his book.

[Syliras Location] The Main Gates

Postby Amarhyl on February 10th, 2011, 8:32 pm

49th of Winter, 510 AV

As Amarhyl approached the gates of Syliras, her eyes widened. It was completely unlike anything she had ever seen. Even though she’d lived in the Mithryn Outpost just 10 miles away for the short 16 years of her life, she’d never ventured beyond the fields.
But the gates were daunting as they were impressive. She hung back a few meters away, a worried frown creasing her brow. Occasionally her shoulder would be buffeted by a passer-by, and a couple of times she almost dropped her rucksack. Her eyes fell on the guards, and her breath caught as she realised they were stopping people entering the city.
Don’t be stupid Amarhyl, you have absolutely nothing to hide. Just stop being a wimp because Sam left you a mile back.

She drew a deep breath, pulled the purple cloak tighter and walked the last few steps to the guards.
”And, what is your business in Syliras young lady?” The guard had a stern face, almost glaring, and Amarhyl bit her lip, silenced buy a fear of she didn’t-know-what.
Another guard nudged the one who’d spoken.
”Stop frowning at her.” He then turned to Amarhyl. ”You’ve travelled here for a purpose?” His tone was kinder than that of the first guard.
Amarhyl gave a small nod.
”I, um, want to find some work…” Her voice trailed off and the guard nodded before speaking again.
In that case, you’ll need to head over to the Employment Office. He fired off some directions to her, then, with a sweeping arm movement, offered her a passage through.
Without a backwards glance, Amarhyl practically ran through the gates and into the city.

[Syliras Location] The Main Gates

Postby Sondra on February 11th, 2011, 6:03 am

TS: 45th of Winter, 510 AV

Syliras guarded the horizon line with a severe vigilance. It made the Konti vaguely nervous to see the unyielding stone and fierce silhouettes. Syliras represented structure, a thing she was yet unsure whether she craved or kicked against.

Kendall and Cathan had been steady companions. Though she had not completely broken into the close fellowship the two shared, she had come close enough to be at ease.

"The gates sure are something," she announced as they came closer. They weren't as high as some, but they were thick and showed little of the wear and tear of the centuries.

When Kendall announced Cathan was with him, Sondra chimed in,
"And both are with me. I'm returning home from traveling abroad."
She passed through the gates with the nonchalance of a citizen, hiding the dread she felt. Higher powers had compelled her here, but they had yet to show her why.

Sondra spoke over her shoulder to Cathan and Kendall, knowing precisely where she was heading.
"I've got a tiny place, but there's floor space if you need somewhere to stay."
She gave a sardonic smile, "It's cheaper than an Inn and warmer than a tent."

[Syliras Location] The Main Gates

Postby Aiyana on February 13th, 2011, 12:56 am

TS: Winter 75, 510 AV. Mid Afternoon

Aiyana gazed up at the massive stone walls of Syliras, her eyes a bright gold with fascination and excitement. I’ve finally made it, she thought to herself. After two weeks of travel, she had made it to Syliras, the first city other than Avanthal that she had ever seen. It had been dangerous traveling all the way from Avanthal on her own, especially during winter, but thankfully Aiya had made it with few complications.

She dismounted Cadoc and continued on foot, guiding her horse by the reins, and headed towards the main gates. Despite the fact it was at most 50 degrees outside, Aiyana left her thick coat inside of Cadoc’s saddlebags. Compared to Avanthal, it felt almost warm to her. Aiya could see guards standing infront of the gate, stopping and inspecting anyone who tired to enter, but she continued on, unafraid and confident.

“Afternoon” began one of the guards as she drew near, his voice giving away his boredom. “State your name and business in Syliras”

“I’m Aiyana, of the Skyglow hold. I’m just traveling through the area, but I’m hoping that I‘ll be able to get a temporary job here until spring arrives.” Aiya could barely keep the excitement out of her voice, and the guard couldn’t help but crack a smile at her eagerness.

“Enjoy your stay at Syliras, miss” he said, stepping to one side to allow Aiya to enter. Aiya beamed at the guard, then continued on in. As she observed the bustling crowds and the immense citadel, Aiya couldn’t help but feel a bit homesick, her eyes shifting to a light blue. However, she quickly pushed that thought out of her mind, and set off to find the employment office.

The New coming hunter road up on her large black and white warhorse looking up at the gates. Her quiver strapped to her back and her arrow strapped to the saddle of her horse. Riding past the guards slowly entering the town, she had come to hopefully find some new work as a hunter and skinner. The large hawk she kept as a pet sat behind the saddle atop the horses rear searching around.

She stopped and got off her horse and took out a few pelts from the bag attached to the horses saddle and set them on the saddle for show then went to the animals face and pet his nose giving him some feed hoping a customer will come along soon.

Time Stamp: 78th of Winter - 510 AV

Darting from the tavern, he swung a hard left. Glass smashes above his head; lucky the bar keep was a poor shot. The barkeep had caught Sharlor Fighting with another patron regular, that and with Sharlor being banned from the bar, the barkeep wasn't very happy. "Oi you there. Stop where you're going!" Damn a knight. Sharlor didn't stop running, he swung into a narrow gap between two walls and back around behind the guard. Sharlor slowed to a labored jog and walked to join a group of weary travelers heading to the main gate. A little girl in the group stared at Sharlor, he pulled his cloak over his face and kept moving; last thing he wanted was the girl screaming because of his face.

He reached the main gate and looked up in amazement. The gates themselves where not amazing but what they represented was, They were the last defense between the town and everything, slavers, monsters, war.... Even the world.

This caught Sharlor and he watched as the gate let the group through quickly he scanned around hoping to see someone he could travel with but as the gate closed everything else crashed onto him. Yes, he had 100GM but he had nowhere to spend it out in the wilderness, He could forage for a little while but once the trees got thin then what would he do, slouching back on a broken crate that had once held small birds, he thought about his life.

Gods damn it all......

I need an ale.

Only a fool would turn down free lodging. During Kendall's travel from Zeltiva to Syliras he had gotten to know Sondra. Not extremely well like a close friend would but close enough where he knew he could spend the night in her home and not worry about her hitting him over the head with her hammer. "Thank you Sondra. I think Cathan and I will take you up on your offer. It is very gracious of you to let us sat in your home. We will not stay too long. Just long enough to rest and move on to the next city."

It was a huge weight off of Kendall's shoulders to know that he would not have to worry about paying rent to say somewhere while he and his canine companion spent a few weeks in the city. "Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help out. I would hate to live in your house without helping a little." Kendall was not sure what he could do to help the Konti. He did not have any marketable skills. He could be willing to help around the house or even run a few errands if needed though.

Mekotsu:

Within about ten chimes, one of the Knights who stood within the gates made his way over to the impromptu seller.

"Oi," he said, not unkindly, more as if he was annoyed that he had to say it at all. "You can't sell your wares here. You want to, you can rent a booth in the Bazaar, but any sales you make in Syliras means giving a cut to Syliras itself. The cost of having a city full of safe people with gold in their pockets to hawk your custom to. I'll have to ask you to move along, please."
PLEASE NOTE: Finals are over, but summer is eating my soul. As such, as of the end of June I will not be accepting any new quests/modded threads until I finish some of the ones I've already started/agreed to. My apologies for this, but I don't want to be unfair to those who have been waiting for replies!

Tharius walked toward the main gates. He looked at the towering two towers, and felt a feeling of dread in his stomach. He walked forward, and was stopped by a gatekeeper. The gatekeeper waved him inside, and turned to check the next traveler.

[Syliras Location] The Main Gates

Postby Vizyous Aconitum on March 2nd, 2011, 3:52 am

80th of Winter, 510 AV

Vizyous' already worn and tattered clothes were falling apart, more held together by cleverly placed knots than stitches. His body that had been more muscle than bone before was exhausted and thinned out from nearly twenty days of on and off sea sickness. Merchant he'd once been, the Symenestra wasn't ashamed to admit he felt bitter towards practically puking his mizas out, considering he'd paid for the food before leaving the City of Illusion.

Sick as he may have looked, Vizyous was sure to try and straighten his posture as best he could before he reached the guards at the gates of Syliras. He hadn't been there in a year, since before he gave up his career, but the Symenestra felt more comfortable with it once he was standing on the bridge than when he'd thought about it on the ship. He really wanted to be within the castle walls again and see what he'd missed while in Kalea, once properly fed and rested of course.

Stubborn as ever, Vizyous tried to appear only tired and not dead exhausted. Recalling the routine easily, he responded to the guard's questions before they were even asked. "Aconitum, just got off the ship from Alvadas. Sea sickness," His voice sounded incredibly worn out, faltering smile pathetically holding for only an instant, "I need rest."

He was regarded with slightly wide eyes, as if the guard hadn't seen such a pathetic being in a long time. Without words, the guard roughly pointed behind him, moving on to the next person in the long line wanting to enter Syliras. He gave no directions for him to find rest, but that was fine-- Vizyous already knew his way around.
