The few minor scars that he has can hardly be seen unless someone is very close up to him. He has rough calloused skin for many reasons including the fact that he has spent his whole life living off the land. Hair His hair is black as the crows that he has come to respect above all else. He doesn't restrain it but, rather, lets it flow freely. He will, however, occasionally put feathers in it for special occasions. Other Most mornings Jabran uses dye from the trees of the Keerdash Grove to create some sort of mask around his eyes, and sometimes his whole face. The most common of these is a streak of red dye across his eyes to ward off the sun. Racial Traits As well as having copper coloured skin, Jabran also has quite long legs. He has leathery soles on his feet and his toes are webbed. These two traits help Chaktawe to travel on the desert sand easily. Jabran is also heavier than he looks. This is because of a special organ that only his race have. It stores water so they can travel through the desert for many days without needing to drink. This is essential to the survival of the Chaktawe who never know when or where their next drink will come from. Clothing Jabran mainly wears animal pelts and nothing more. Most of the time, he wears them in the traditional Chaktawe fashion, namely, he wraps a knee length piece of animal fur around his waist, which is split almost all of the way up the side. On very hot days, or sometimes when hunting, he may opt for nothing more than a loincloth. He also owns a red headband with he wears around his forehead to help keep the sun from his eyes. Jabran is a very driven individual but this determination is controlled and he doesn’t let it interfere with his mind and cloud his judgement in trying times. He is pensive and contemplative, spending much of his time in thought. When faced with a decision, especially an important and difficult one, he will generally prefer to think on it a while before making up his mind. These values have been instilled in him by those around him who believe, along with Jabran himself, that the decisions that you make in life shape the world you live in and determine whether you live a good or a bad life. He is also brave and loyal. Those he considers a friend are his friends for life who can trust his every word and can count on him to defend them with his life. Jabran is a preacher of peace. He doesn’t usually accept violence as a solution to problems but will admit that it is the inevitable and unfortunate end most of the time. He puts this down to the kind of world he lives in. Pre-Creation Jabran has spent his whole life traveling the harsh desert lands, trying to survive believing there is power and resourcefulness in numbers. It is the only life he knows and has no aspiration to ever live another way. As a young Chaktawe he usually spent at least a season a year in Yahebah. He always had mixed feeling about these excursions to the big city. On the one hand he loved the strange sights, sounds and smells. He was a very curious child, always getting into trouble for one reason or another, and he enjoyed discovering new hidden secrets that the mysterious city had to offer a young explorer. He also made a few friends all of whom were Benshiran boys of the same age as himself. These children taught Jabran a little of the Benshiran people and culture. However, the main knowledge that he gained from them was of the language Shiber. Along with this excitement he felt on these trips, there was also a sense of foreboding as he passed through the gates. The first time he made the journey he could see the high walls from a long way off. A sense of fear gripped him when he saw the banners moving with the wind and the big iron gates welcome him with cold metal. The combination of small spaces and a high density of people made for a very nerve-racking experience for the young desert dweller who spent much of his time paralyzed with fear and only the sweet words of his mother could soothe his impressionable mind. However, as the years progressed he grew more accustomed to the trips down south and eventually would begin to count down the days when he could return. It was in Yahebah that Jabran had his first experience with life outside the Tatsuwaat tribe of his people and, at first, he tried to take full advantage of this. As he grew older he became more aware of the nature of the relationship between the two races. He began to notice that there was very few of his own race in the city and started to wonder why this was. He couldn’t understand why the Benshira had a city for themselves while the Chaktawe were forced to live off the barren land and didn’t have the privilege of living safely behind protecting walls. Soon after, he stopped going to Yahebah with his father to barter. All he wanted to do was forget the city ever existed, forget the friends he had made there and return to the hard, unpredictable life he had always known. This, of course was easier said then done. In order to free himself from the city he started to put all of his time into his faith and his people. He decided to live for the sole purpose of helping the Chaktawe survive. To him they would always be nomads wandering the desert, where every day there was the threat of pain and death looming over them. From the time coming up to his twentieth year he began to keep mostly to himself, shunning the company of those other than his family and friends. He would spend his days praying, thinking and riding the desert sand on Chulyein’s back, determined to devote his life to his people. It would take a higher power to make him choose a different course. Post-Creation Jabran lived a life mostly untroubled by the world outside the desert during the year 511 AV. One notable event that occured was his meeting with a Nuit mage from Sahova named Jilitse. She arrived in the Keerdash Grove in the Spring of that year with a Benshiran traveling companion. This meeting was a notable event in the Chaktawe's life as he has never forgotton it, always searching to unravel the mystery that surrounded this woman. It was in the year five hundred and twelve after the catastrophe that was the valterian that the Djed Storm hit Mizahar... The year after the Great Storm that caused more damage and heartache than a thousand and more sandstorms Jabran's father fell ill, owing as a diect result to the events of the previous year. It was his wish that his son see more of the world. He felt that the world was changing and progressing but Chaktawe were stuck in the past. He wanted his race to embrace the future and be apart of it instead of a casualty of it and, so, sent his son forth on a trading vessel from Yahebah to learn more of the world. On the 60th of Summer 513 AV Jabran arrived in Kalinor, Kalea after many adversities encountered on the Suvan Sea. Thrown into the cave city where he knew no-one, couldn't speak the language and knew nothing of the race that inhabited it or their culture he has to somehow survive. All this young Chaktawe wants is to return home to the place of his birth. He wishes to raise a family with a woman of the Tatsuwaat tribe and, most importantly, he wants to be there when his father makes his journey into the afterlife. Does he have the strength and the courage to, once again, walk on the sands with only his faith to guide him? His journey is sure to be exciting and dangerous with many adventures had and strange and wonderful characters met. Eywaat The God that Jabran lives his life for is Eywaat. However, he can sometimes be disillusioned with the God’s easygoing and playful nature. He believes that life is hard and that there is no time for messing around. He tries to look past this particular trait of the God because he trusts, possibly naively so, that Eywaat is omniscient and has a grand plan for his chosen people. Makutsi The Goddess that Jabran worships is Makutsi. He respects and reveres her but Eywaat has always been his primary deity. He prays to her to bring rain to the desert lands which is very important for survival. Therefore, he has become fluent in it as he has been speaking it for twenty five years. Competent Shiber: Jabran has learned Shiber both within his own tribe and on he trips that he took to Yahebah with his father in order to barter goods. Trading with the Benshira is very important to the Chaktawe so each member of the tribe is taught some Shiber. Basic Common: The Chaktawe recognise that Tawna is not a widely spoken language, therefore, they teach their children how to speak Common. It is a language which most people in Mizahar speak with a certain degree of competency and the Chakatwean elders want their children to have as many options in life as possible. However, Jabran cannot speak Common to the same level as most other Chaktawe. This is because he has devoted his life to helping his tribe and doesn't believe that learning Common will be a necessity for him. A set of clothing
