[Riverfall Location] The Sanctuary

OOCJust wrapping things up.
So it was settled. The journey to the Sactuary was not in vain. Riki's mind was already buzzing with ideas and plans this new place. It was much different than home but he liked it. He would miss his fellow Drykas but once a year they settled close to Riverfall and he could visit. He was sure Kavala would not mind him taking a short little trip home.

Next on his list to things to do was to get Spring, his Strider, settled in the stables. Riki knew she would miss the lands of Endrykas just as much as he would. Riki, Sadie, and Spring all had each other though. They were all born of Endrykas and they all would miss it greatly. There was a little fear but that was to be expected. Leaving home was always hard.

Riki smiled at his name being drawn in the schedule and noted the fact he would need to start learning how to cook. He would need to start working on that as well as his breeding. The kennel was a temping idea as well. It was one he knew he wanted to be a part of. He knew Rak'keli and Caiyha watched over him. "Thank you Kavala. I cannot wait to get started tomorrow and so is Sadie." Next step was to meet Mizuriel, Riki's new roommate. He hoped he would be kind. More so, he hoped that he was kind. He did not want to see Sadie in danger because some idiot wanted to mess around with her. "It will be alright. This is a new begining and the only thing that can ruin it is worrying about the future. That is better saved for when I have something that is really worth worrying about."

oocSorry for delaying this, Kav, I feel really bad. Just haven't been myself lately.

"Moves like a dream, huh," She winked slyly at the Konti woman, then considered the choices Kavala had given her in regards to the job opportunity. There were still some loose ends she had to make up for, so the chances of staying here long were slim. Best to let her know, "It won't be permanent, I need to meet someone out in the region of Syliras sometime in Spring. But what I can do for Sanctuary is whatever you task me with. Of course, I'll finish my work before I leave. Otherwise, being a groom sounds good to me."

When Liva came to a stop, Daeva slid off her back, "Time to check out Dana?"

Kavala appreciated Daeva's candor. If she had things to do elsewhere, Kavala wasn't interested in hiring her. She truthfully didn't need much help this winter. When she'd need help was in the spring when the baby was due and she was too big to get a whole lot done because she couldn't stay on long.

"Thanks for your forthrightness. I'm really only interested in hiring people that can stay on longer than just the winter. Winter is our downtime which is why we are hiring now in preparation for the spring when things will get exceedingly busy. By the time we get them trained and all ready to help out, things will get very busy. If we invest time and training in you, and yet you are planning on leaving soon anyhow, it simply wastes both our times. You can get seasonal work in town that will pay you even more than I can offer you here as a groom." Kavala suggested.

Evidently the woman wanted to try the other horse. Kavala nodded, freed Liva from the yvas and turned to fetch the other mare. Dana wasn't hard to catch and soon Kavala was leading her up to Daeva so she could take her for a test ride as well.

The entire area smelled of horses and warm hay, so Nenai realized the purpose of the facility far before she set foot on the front porch. Here she paused.

While as of yet lacking any information about her brother's possible whereabouts, it was very likely that whatever she did find or realize would lead her out of the city. Traveling in general - and especially on foot and alone - would be dangerous. It was doubtful that the 'traveling alone' part could be helped, but at the very least she could acquire a mount for herself. And that process would begin with learning how to ride one.

Moving from the front porch and through the door, Nenai found herself in a sort of waiting room. No one seemed to be around, but force of habit brought her eyes to the ceiling, half expecting the curator to be hanging from it.

"Hello?" The Symenestra called softly in Common, unnerved by the silence. She had always assumed that a place full of animals would never be truly quiet - not that she spoke from any sort of experience. She moved to stand in the center of the room, and called out again, a little louder this time. "Anyone around?"

Daeva nodded to the Konti after she offered her suggestion. No harm done, it was understandable. When Dana approached she mounted her instead and rode her around at whatever speed Kavala dictated. She was taking a liking to this equine, more so than the purebred Liva. "This one has already got my heart." Strong, large, and from what the Konti said, she'd grow even larger! It was perfect, and she was lovely. "How much for her and any supplies that would be handy?" She asked, rummaging in her back pocket for the coin after she slid off the horse's back.

37 Spring, 511 AV
The sun was just turning the sky to pink as Ghedan stepped through the gate of the sanctuary. He gently closed it behind him so as not to jar the bundle in his arms. His arms were sore. Glint was not that heavy, but trying to carry him without jostling him had been quite strenuous.

The fox had gone limp about halfway through the journey, but he was still breathing, if shallowly. Ghedan pushed back the tears that threatened the edge of his vision. He had to remain calm. He had to have faith that Glint would be alright, but the tendrils of doubt and the fear of loss continued to lurk in the back of his mind next to the hint of pain that emanated from his fox.

He couldn't see anyone around, maybe it was too early.
"Hello!" he called, "Is anyone here?"

Kavala slipped through the clinic and out into the main reception. She smiled at the stranger, pausing to take in the fact the girl looked Symenestra. An infant was tucked against her ribs in a sling designed to let the healer have free use of her hands. It was quiet, sleeping soundly lulled to sleep by her heartbeat. Kavala offered the woman a bright smile, eyes roaming her form in case she was injured, and asked softly... "Hello there. How may I help you? My name is Kavala. I'm the healer and horse trainer here. Can I show you some horses? Or do you need some medications or perhaps a treatment yourself for something?" Kavala said softly, trying to be welcoming and friendly without being overly loud due to the child sleeping.

Kavala smiled. "I'm glad you like her. Dana seems to like you too. She's 150 GM. For everything you'd need for her to be fully supplied it would be 172 GM though you can skip the grain and buy as you need it to lesson t cost a bit." Kavala said gently.

Kavala was indeed up with the sunrise. She was busy feeding horses when she spotted the visitor carrying the fox. Instantly dropping what she was doing, Kavala met him as he crossed the threshold into the courtyard proper. She dropped her eyes down to the limp bundle in his arms and frowned. "Hello there. I'm Kavala, and this is Sanctuary. I'm a healer. It looks like you might have an emergency. If that's true, will you follow me to the clinic? And tell me what's wrong, or at least what you know about the fox. She looks like she's barely breathing." Kavala said softly, concerned. Normally she took time for introductions, exchanging names, getting a patient history, but she could feel the fox through her konti gift, and her lifeforce seemed thready. Kavala didn't know what was wrong, but hoped the gentleman's words would indeed give her enough background to go to work immediately on the creature.

"I don't know really know what's wrong. I woke up this morning and he could hardly breathe. From what I could see, he doesn't seem to have any external injuries." There had to be something else he could tell her, anything to help her restore his closest friend. He held back the emotion that threatened to touch his voice, than added, "I know he's quite old, but he hasn't shown any indication of relinquishing his youth. I just know he's in a lot of pain. Maybe it was something he ate."

NoteHope you had a nice vacation! =3 Also, writing someone that isn't a native speaker of the language is awkward. >.< Sorry about the ridiculous.

A Konti woman answered Nenai's call, a gentle smile on her features. As the other paused to recognize her customer's race, said customer paused to take in the baby sleeping in the sling, nuzzled to the woman's ribs. It was lovely and soft looking and obviously not a poisonous Symenestra.

Enthralled would be a mild description, so much so that Nenai looked at the woman in a fashion that could be perceived as simple before registering that words had been spoken.

"I am Nenai." She said first, giving her brain a moment to catch up with translating, while copying the mother's low volume. "I am-" What was the word for not needing medical assistance? "-healthy. I will be traveling soon, and wish to..." Another pause, accompanied by inner cursing at her lack of gift in linguistics. "...familiarize..." Nenai glanced at the Kavala's eyes, as if to check for something that might indicate she had made a mistake, then went back to looking at the Konti's shoulder.

It was difficult to hold eye contact without wanting to look at the baby, and having venomous strangers stare at one's child would surely be disconcerting.

"...myself with horse riding."

After clicking her claws nervously for a few moments, Nenai motioned towards the sleeping child. "You have a beautiful...boy? Girl?" Her face turned a deeper gray as blood rushed to her face. For some reason, she felt as if years of delivering Symenestra babies would some how give her super 'gender-discerning-from-a-respectable-distance' powers. "I apologize. I can not tell."

Kavala gently took the fox from the man and offered him a smile. "It's okay. It's going to be okay. Does he have a name?" Kavala asked, gently tucking the slim canine against her swollen form and carrying it carefully into the clinic. She laid the fox down on the exam table and quickly did a thorough search. Before long, carefully, she'd found what she suspected and exposed two puncture marks at the base of the fox's tail. Not knowing what kind of snake made the bite, Kavala knew medicine wasn't going to be the answer unless they could identify the snake. Gnosis, however, could definitely help. The fox was poisoned, for sure, by venom no less.

"Snakebite, see? It's a small set of fangs, so it was probably a little snake, young or newly hatched. The problem is the younger they are the more venom is concentrated and it acts really quickly. I assume this came on acutely. Some snakes don't even cause much pain when they bite. Cyphrus has a whole host of Valterrian oddities that were either hit with wild djed or evolved in such a way their defense mechanisms make no sense." She added.

Kavala laid her hands on the fox, tapping her gnosis and pouring healing power into the fox's still form. The creature's heartrate was weak, but there was a fight left in the fox. Kavala bolstered that fight and cleared the poison out of the creature's blood. The fox stirred, stretched, and slipped into a sleep. Kavala looked up, releasing her hands from its body, and met the man's eyes. "I think your fox will be fine. But he'll need rest and a special diet for a few days. You both can stay here while that's happening. Have a seat, and I'll fix you some tea after I get him settled." Kavala said, picking up the creature and walking through the clinic doors quiet as a mouse towards the guest quarters. She instilled the fox on the guest bed knowing that her master would probably prefer that to a kennel and let him decide. "I'll make you some tea and bring it here, or you can join me on the veranda while he rests.'" Kavala said gently.
