Bottom of the Class (Jokor)

Jaelyn gave a nod at Jokor's question, "There are sparring areas located in Dyres district. Follow me."

As was seeming the norm for their encounters Jaelyn turned to once again guide Jokor to someone in Syliras. There was no need to leave Stormhold this time, and after a few turns down the various corridors they arrived at a heavy door, "Now, these training rooms are made for the Knights and Squires so you will have to be on good behavior while here, but they will not have any problem with you practicing as long as you are polite."

Opening the door revealed a large training room populated with various training dummies and a few Squires and Knights training. Motioning for Jokor to follow her Jaelyn moved towards an open area in the room, picking up a training sword from a weapon stand on the way.

Once the two of them were on location Jaelyn gestured towards the nearby training dummy with the wooden sword she had picked up, "Go ahead and show me what you know already, and then we can start moving on from there."

Bottom of the Class (Jokor)

Postby Jokor on April 18th, 2011, 8:24 pm

jokor made a note about where the sparring areas where located before he followed Jaelyn through the many corridors of the castle-city. It wasn't that long before they came to a room closed of with a heavy door. When there Jaelyn turned around to him and quickly explained to him that the training area behind this door was mostly made for knights and squires but that nobody would care that a non-knight was training there. As long as he was polite.

Jokor rolled his eyes.
"Right so I gotta keep my trap shut and make sure I don't accidentally piss anybody off who is training there. I can do that"Jokor told her before following her into the room, the clashing sound of wood on wood sounded throughout the room and jokor couldn't help but take a better look around, seeing various squires and knights sparring, probably to learn something new or keep their skills sharp.
When jaelyn stopped in front of a row of straw targets, roughly resembling a human body. She gestured towards the target and told him to show her what he could.

"Eh it isn't much but sure." Jokor took a step towards the target and pulled out one of his isurian steel daggers, Gripping the handle hard enough to make his knuckles white. Before he lashed out and rammed the dagger up to the hilt into the middle of the target.
"So what did ya think of that?" Jokor asked as he pulled the dagger out of the straw.

Bottom of the Class (Jokor)

Jaelyn gave a soft sigh at Jokor's reply to her comment on being polite, "Being polite does not mean you have to be silent. Speaking respectfully is just as polite as not saying anything."

Once at the training dummy Jaelyn watched Jokor carefully as he prepared to strike. She didn't really know anything about fighting with daggers, but even she could tell that he had no formal training with how he held the weapon. His attack only reassured it.

"You do not need to hold your weapon so tight," Jaelyn instructed as she held up her sword so Jokor could clearly see her grip on it, "You want a firm grip, but squeezing as tight as you did will only tire you out when you are fighting. Also you do not want to go for such a straight forward attack unless you have a very clear opening. In an active fight it would leave you too open to an attack."

Thinking for a moment about some training she had done last season against a dagger wielder she offered, "Try going more for quick slashes at limbs and other exposed parts. Daggers are for those who fight with speed and agility, not strength."

Jokor snickered a bit at her comment about speaking respectfully.
"Did ya ever hear me speak respectfully to somebody Jaelyn?" He kept chuckling as Jaelyn began giving him some small tips and showed him her grip on her sword as an example.
he adjusted his grip on his dagger a bit so that the knuckles weren't white anymore he showed his grip to jaelyn, still listening to her tips.
"This better on that grip?" When she said he had to go for quick slashes to rely on speed and agility instead of straight stabs which used strength. He took a quick look at his own bony frame with barely visible muscles and then towards the other knights and squires in the room, noticing the rather big difference between them and his malnourished frame.

"Yeah I see what you mean there." He shifted away from her and looked back towards the dummy, taking something that resembled a stance. If you looked at it the right way.
He took a swing at the dummies right arm, the sharp isurian steel dagger easily slicing through the straw, then jokor tried to twirl the dagger around and stab it in the dummies right side. With tried being the keyword, the dagger slipped out of his grip and made a shallow cut in the boy's palm.
Said boy let out a few curses that would have made a sailor proud as he clutched the hurt hand.

"No, I have not, which is something I would like to change," Jaelyn said with a soft sigh in response to Jokor's comment. To be honest, that was why she had grabbed the training sword. She would see Jokor learn some manners one way, or another.

Jaelyn gave a small nod to Jokor as he asked about the grip, and then watched as he moved and attacked the dummy again. The slash looked better to her, much more like she had seen from other people using daggers, but then Jokor tried to get fancy and ended up cutting himself.

Jaelyn gave a soft sigh and a faint shake of her head, moving to see how bad the cut was, but she stopped when Jokor started to curse. Lips pressed tightly together in a displeased expression she quickly lashed out with her practice sword, aiming to catch Jokor on the back of his right thigh with the flat of the wooden blade, "Cursing is neither polite or respectful Jokor."

Bottom of the Class (Jokor)

Jokor let out a yelp as the training sword smacked into his right thigh, glaring at her as he cradled his hand.
"And I ain't polite nor respectful. Besides I don't think smacking somebody with a wooden training sword polite? Or do ya just conveniently forget about respect and politeness when it gets in your way." He grumbled out as he stepped out the reach of her sword, not wanting to get another slap for whatever she thought was inappropriate. before shifting half of his attention back towards his bleeding hand examining the cut a bit closer. It didn't seem to be cut that deep, so he could just wrap a piece of cloth around it to keep the blood inside. He leant over and grabbed his dagger and shoved it back behind his belt before took a quick look around for anything that he could use as a bandage, and preferably that anything would be something that was clean and not used by him as clothing for the moment.
"Is there anything to cover that cut of mine up?"

Bottom of the Class (Jokor)

Jaelyn gave a sigh and shook her head at Jokor's response, "It is a consequence, Jokor. I told you that you could only train in here if you were polite, and since you were not polite it caused a consequence. It is how things work here in Syliras Jokor. If you do not live up to your agreements then there are always consequences. A single strike from a training sword is nothing compared to being sent to work in the mines, or being cast out from the city."

Moving closer to look at Jokor's cut she gave a small nod, "It should be fine. Let me get a bandage."

Going over to the medicine box she pulled out a bit of cloth bandage, and then returned to Jokor, "Give me your hand, I will bandage it for you," she said as she knelt down next to the boy.

Jokor snorted at jaelyn's explanation about consequences, it sounded like a load of bull to him, he didn't break his agreement to be polite to the people that where training here so why in the name of yhsul did jaelyn think he could hit him with that damned stick anyway! As he was about to give jaelyn a piece of his mind his eye fell on that training sword she was carrying around right now and he held his tongue. Maybe it would be a lot safer if he just delayed his payback until a time when she wasn't armed and they where in a place without a bunch of knights and squires ready to block his escape after he gave his payback.

Grudgingly holding out his cut hand, the bleeding already slowing down quite a bit, so that she could fix it up.
"Right I ain't going to try and be fancy again." Jokor muttered under his breath.

Jaelyn gave a small nod in response to Jokor's muttering as she carefully wrapped the bandage around his hand, "It is best to stick to basics when you are first learning a weapon," she then gave him a soft smile as she tied the bandage, "I know I have hurt myself several times when I push farther that my knowledge for the weapon goes."

Standing up again Jaelyn took a couple steps back to give Jokor some room, "When first starting off it is usually best to just take a couple basics, like slashing from the left then the right, and repeating them until you can do them by instinct. When it comes down to a fight you will not have much time to think, so you need your body to know what to do already. Try it again."

Jokor let out a small laugh at the thought of jaelyn screwing up just like him. Carefully testing his now bandaged hand as she finished, before picking up the dagger he dropped again and once again stood before the straw training dummy. Listening to the advice that jaelyn was giving him now, nodding in agreement about the statement that you can't think in a fight. Lashing out with a cut towards the dummies 'belly' the isurian steel cutting through it like a hot knife through butter.
“Yeah you never know what is going to happen in a straight fight.” Jokor agreed with her before repeating the slash once again.
“Its why I prefer ambushing or catching people unaware and getting it over and done with before they can fight back. Makes the entire thing a lot easier.” Jokor repeated the slash again, trying to burn it in his memory just like jaelyn told him to do.
