(Flashback) Auras Make the Head Hurt (Solo)

Spring 1, 504 AV

Aello stumbled down the large white steps that led into the University of Zeltiva. The tiny muscles in her temples seemed to twitch, as the golden colored rays of the sun wrapped themselves around her pale visage, causing her skin, and the ash brown hair that curled into her cheeks to glow. Her eyes seemed distant- her pupils had dilated hours ago, and the edges of her vision were a little blurry. The corners of her mind- the areas around her ears ached, and she couldn't help but feel more than a little tired.

"Man that guy gives your mind a work out," Aello muttered as she stumbled down the last step. Her mind was still rattling off all the information she had picked up in her auristics class. There are seven layers in an aura. The inner most layer of the aura is called the physical auric body. It is the human body itself, or at least appears to be... and is associated with physical sensations. The next layer out on the physical plane is the etheric auric body it is associated with one's emotions and self-respect. After that comes the vital auric body, which has to do with one's rational mind. The only layer on the astral plane is the astral, or emotional body. (What a surprise). It has to do with one's relationship with other human beings. The inner most layer of the spiritual plane is the etheric template, (lower mental auric body), which has to do with one's divine will. Then the celestial body, or higher mental auric body, which has to do with divine love, and spiritual ecstasy. Finally, the outer most layer is the casual body, or intuitive body, which has to do with the divine mind.

The inner most layer is the one that almost never changes. The outer most ones, change more often. Especially the intuitive body, which is the only one which a novice such as myself can actually see. Aello sighed, she wished she was better at auristics, and not the worst one in her class. But then again, that was to be expected considering she was not only the youngest student her professor had taken on, but the newest addition to the class as well. Which only meant that her professor wanted her to practice the most, so she could catch up; make up for lost time.

Aello didn't mind this, although, it did really tire her out. Peering at all of your classmate's auras one after the other and describing to the best of her ability the strange colored mist that she could actually see, was a daunting task. Of course, it was simple enough, considering all she had to do was describe what she saw. But it was difficult for that very reason: because Aello didn't yet know how to interpret what she had seen. For example, she didn't know that a soft blue aura was not associated with sorrow, but with peacefulness and clarity. Nor did she know, during her interpretations of what she had seen, that a white aura reflected other energies, and wasn't associated with blankness or purity.

Aello sighed, at least, now she knew.

As Aello walked into the small grassy field that lay in front of the University, another wave of exhaustion washed over her. "Perhaps I should rest a bit before heading home," the girl whispered into the wind. When she had reached a small tuft of grass, the girl sat down, and crossed her legs. "Perhaps meditating would help get rid of this feeling. This exhaustion, and this bloody headache," the girl muttered as she closed her eyes and clutched her hair in her hands. The strands weaved through her pale fingers, tickling her skin. Her head was throbbing. She had tried to hard, and hadn't given herself enough of a break. "Professor always mentions the benefits of meditation," the girl said, as she dropped her hands from her hair and placed them on her knees, palms facing up towards the sky. Aello assumed the lotus position. Her back was straight, her eyes remained closed, although now, they were shut lightly, and not clenched. She began to breath slowly in through the nose, and out through the mouth, willing herself to relax enough to meditate.

When Aello was feeling a little calmer, and her breathing had become more regular, she began to relax her muscles. She began with the tips of her toes, tracing the feeling through the length of her foot, to her ankles. From there, she allowed the muscles in her lower legs to loosen, and then her knees, her things, her pelvis. Then she relaxed her stomach, which only moments before had been tied into a series of tight knots. From there, the girl relaxed her back, the muscles that ached the closer and closer they drew to her neck. The girl then relaxed the muscles in her shoulders, by rolling them around a few times. Forward and then back, very slowly. She shook out her arms to loosen them up, and then wiggled her fingers to help her hands along. Finally, she relaxed her facial muscles, her eyes and nose which seemed to twitch from time to time, her head.

Now that her body was relaxed, Aello simply sat, enjoying the newfound feeling. After a few moments, she began to notice her breathing. It was still fairly even, although, she seemed to hold it in for only a few seconds before letting it out. You are still tired, Aello's brain told her, but she ignored it. Now was not the time for such things. Now was simply the time to relax. The girl continued to breath, in and out, in and out.

It is such a nice day out. The sun is shining, and the birds are chirping, Aello smiled. It was a nice day, and she simply wanted to run around and soak it all up. But her body was so tired, and she was supposed to be meditating, so reluctantly, she ignored the sudden urge. As she exhaled, she whispered, "pain doesn't last forever." She inhaled. "Pain is only temporary," she said as she exhaled. Inhaled. "Pain doesn't last forever," she said as she drew in another breath. She held it deeply within her lungs for about five seconds, allowing the air to swirl around her pale pink organ, and cause her chest to feel tight, but only a little. Then she let the breath out, "pain is only temporary," she whispered, as she inhaled again, and repeated the whole phrase when she exhaled five seconds later. "Pain doesn't last forever; pain is only temporary."

Slowly, Aello began to bring her body back to a more natural, non-meditative state. She focused on her breathing- how it came in through her nose, out through her mouth. How she'd hold her breath in her chest for five seconds, before letting it out with a low sigh. Aello then concentrated on her body- how her muscles were now relaxed, how they headache was now a dull throb, slowly fading away. Her heart rate was normal, calm. The next thing Aello concentrated on were her surroundings- people's footsteps fading into the distance, several seabirds flying overhead, and calling to each other. The feel of the ground beneath her, firm and cold. The kiss of the sun's rays on her pale skin.

The last thing Aello concentrated on were her thoughts, a series of words that together formed a picture. Or perhaps a rather large mess. The birds sound nice, and the sun is warm. It sends a tingling sensation down the spine, much like the cold. There was a pause. It is really nice out, but Aello needs to get home before her family worries. Another pause, wait is tonight her day to make dinner? Is it Tuesday? Why do we always forget the day of the week? Is it really that difficult to remember? Slowly, Aello opened her eyes. The outside world hit her all at once, and the girl clenched her eyes shut. It was just too bright. Slowly, she opened them again, allowing her eyes to adjust as she flexed her fingers and straightened out her back a little more.

"Well, it looks like Professor was right, this was relaxing," Aello whispered, as she wiggled her arms and slowly got to her feet. "And now that this is done, it is best to be going home." With soft, muffled steps, the girl crossed the lawn and headed on her way. She would be home in a few minutes, cooking dinner, or whatever it was that she was supposed to do for the rest of the day.

OOCMod Note: Another suppressed memory as of Spring 511 AV.

XP Award!

Aello
XP Award: Meditation +3
Lore: 7 Layer Theory of Auristics (basic)

Additional Notes:
Hi! This was a very good quick look at meditation in action. However, I could only give you Auristics-related Lore because she was only going over the theory that she had learned in class. In order to actually earn XP in the skill, she has to use it. Now the obvious way might be to look at the auras of people around her, but since she is starting out, she could just as easily look at the aura of the grass or something, since everything in Mizahar has an aura of djed. That’s why this is such a good foundation discipline for other magic!

I like that you borrowed from the Reiki tradition. Hopefully Aello will do a bit of seeking and find a theory that works for her and go with it. It’s always fun to see the different ways people interpret the magical traditions.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions or concerns.

Keep writing!
