Bottom of the Class (Jokor)

Jaelyn gave a small nod and a faint smile as Jokor focused on his work with the dagger, but the smile returned to a frown at his last words, "I would hope that you would be using this knowledge to defend yourself Jokor, and not to ambush and attack people for nefarious purposes."

She was reminded of her suspicions that had come up during her last visit with the boy. When he had first arrived in Syliras she had thought he might have been an unfortunate who escaped from Sunberth, like Tolby, but it was starting to feel more and more like he actually enjoyed the darker aspects of humanity.

When Jokor made his next swing Jaelyn stepped forward and thrust her training sword down, blocking his arm so his dagger didn't touch the dummy, "Tell me Jokor, why is it that you want to learn how to fight with the dagger?" she asked slowly, her gaze fixed on his face in an attempt to judge his answer.

Bottom of the Class (Jokor)

Postby Jokor on May 5th, 2011, 7:28 pm

Jokor rolled his eyes when Jaelyn called his ambushing tactic nefarious.
“The best defense is to find your enemies and eliminate them without them knowing that you are trying to take them out. How did you guy's call it again?” Jokor paused for a chime. “A preemptive strike or something like that?” Jokor shrugged before repeating the strike against the dummy.
This time it didn't hit though, Jaelyn quickly stepped forward and swung her training sword again, stopping his swing in its tracks by keeping his arm from moving.
When he looked to jaelyn to ask what the heck she thought she was doing, he looked straight in her harsh stare, feeling trouble arise he secretly channeled some djed into his eyes, the now rather familiar aura's springing to life and surrounding everything into his vision and he was strangely aware of some of them out of his field of view. Though he still had a bit of a problem interpreting the aura's though. Still even then he managed to figure out a bit, a slight tint of worry? Curiosity? Mix of the two? Shifting his attention away from the aura when jaelyn began to talk.
When she asked him why he wanted to learn how to fight with a dagger.
Jokor arched an eyebrow at her question, wondering why the hell she would ask that.
“Why wouldn't I wanna learn how to defend myself from trouble? There is way to much of it these days either way. That good enough of an answer for you?”

Bottom of the Class (Jokor)

A soft sigh came from Jaelyn as she gave a shake of her head at Jokor's response, "A preemptive strike is sometimes needed Jokor, but you have to be absolutely sure that the person you are striking at is going to do you harm. Such knowledge is rare to come by without weapons being drawn face to face, and then it is too late for you to try and strike without them knowing. If they do not try to kill you then, then you could not strike back at them either."

Removing her sword from blocking Jokor's arm she gave another soft sigh, "Yes Jokor, defending yourself from danger is a good answer, but my concern is that you plan things other than just defending yourself. Defending yourself should not always be killing the other person before they kill you. There are plenty of times when a conflict can be settled without death."

Taking a few steps back she brought up her sword in a ready stance, "Allow me to show you. Come at me, try to strike me with your dagger."

Bottom of the Class (Jokor)

Jokor scoffed when Jaelyn said it was almost impossible to know if somebody was really an enemy or not unless he was in your face with drawn weapons.
“Well it might be impossible for people like you but I can do that, just need to know where and when you need to keep your eyes and ears open and you would be surprised what people let slip when they think nobody is listening.” He grinned.
“Besides I am short and scrawny how else do you think I survived?” As Jaelyn removed her training sword from his arm he quickly pulled It back and rubbed the sore spot with his other hand.
When Jaelyn began to tell him about that there where more then enough ways how a conflict could be handled without death jokor just rolled his eyes.
“Sure, it can.” Jokor said, not a trace of sarcasm in his voice. “If you wanna set an example you just beat the guy's till they don't even dare to take a crap without looking around if you are around in fear of insulting ya. Those guy's always spread the word a bit and then less people try to mug when you are sleeping or doing your business.”

When she took a few steps back and asked him to attack him so that he could show how jokor narrowed his eyes. The fact that she said it so casually not even mentioning that his weapon could draw blood and seriously hurt her. Probably because she tought he wasn't trained enough to even hit her. That stung what little pride jokor actually had, though on the outside he just gave a grin.
Just as soon as that grin came on his face he quickly ran towards her lashing out with his dagger towards her training sword, trying to push it out of the way while he clenched his left fist and waited if he got an opening before he struck.

Jaelyn gave another sigh and shake of her head at Jokor's words, "That might be how things worked in Sunberth Jokor, but that is not how it works in Syliras. Unless someone attacks you first then you are considered the aggressor, and it would be you who gets in trouble, regardless of what they might say. As far as resolving conflict, I meant more along the lines of talking things out with the person. Violence does not have to be the answer to every problem."

As Jokor came towards her with his dagger swinging at her blade she stepped to the left, twirling her wooden sword in the process so Jokor's sharp dagger passed harmlessly through the air. Taking another step to the left to maintain a safe distance from the sharpened blade she lashed out with her training sword, aiming a swift strike at the outside of Jokor's right thigh.

Bottom of the Class (Jokor)

Jokor narrowed his eyes in irritation as the dagger sailed through the air not only missing his target but also driving jaelyn away instead of forcing an opening. Not wanting to give jaelyn an advantage as she had a weapon with a longer reach he pursued her trying to get her back into the range of his fists and dagger. As he saw Jaelyn strike towards his right thigh with her sword he just gritted his teeth and prepared for the blow to come while at the same time he slashed at her sword arm with his dagger, hoping to let her drop her sword.

However his slash wasn't quick enough to stop her first strike and the wooden training sword hit him hard on his thigh, that would probably be a big bruise for the next few days, gritting his teeth and forching himself to fight through the pain he just took another step towards swinging his left fist towards her side, aiming towards the spot just below the ribs.

Jokor was certainly fast on his feet, but his attacks with his dagger were awkward and clumsy, as most anyone untrained in a weapon would be. His punch was much more focused and steady, catching Jaelyn by surprise, and forcing her to jump back to avoid the majority of the blow. He still managed to land with a bit of his punch, causing a sting in her torso and most likely causing a small bruise later.

"Not bad," Jaelyn said with a faint smile, her guard still up, "I did not know you had some training in unarmed combat," with that she stepped forward again, and thrust her sword for Jokor's gut, her motion quick and strong with the added power of her step.

She kept her eyes on him, ready to move aside if he dodged and struck back. Now that she knew he was better with his fists than his dagger, she would have to consider his entire body a weapon.

Bottom of the Class (Jokor)

Postby Jokor on May 11th, 2011, 11:44 pm

Jokor didn't answer Jaelyn's banter with some of his own, if she wanted to waste her breath while fighting she could do that, but he liked to spare his energy for more more urgent things, like trying to stop the blow she had aimed towards his stomach or at least getting out of its way.

As quick as he could he jumped back, though her wooden sword still grazed his stomach a little bit, if that had been a normal sword he would probably be out of the fight for now. Jokor gritted his teeth as that fact went through his head, his empty hand going towards the buckle keeping his cloak firmly around his shoulders, unclasping it and keeping it in place for a while with his hand, she wasn't fighting with a steel sword so what would have happened if she had one didn't really matter in this situation.

Quickly closing ground with Jaelyn again he pulled of his cloak and threw it towards her, aiming to obscure her vision of him as he quicky redirected himself towards her right his aiming to ram the pommel of the dagger into her side or anything else that he could hit,he wanted to get a hit in but stabbing her in the side was a bit to far in his opinion, keeping an eye out for any sign of that blasted wooden training sword.

Jaelyn was watching Jokor as he came forward, ready for another attack, but not prepared for his unusual use of his cloak. Reflexively she slashed at the obstruction with her sword. Thanks to the fact that she was using a wooden blade the cloak wrapped around it instead of being cut clean through, and her weapon was weighted down suddenly thanks to it.

While this kept her from striking back at Jokor as he closed in she still managed a little hop to her left that got her out of range of his strike with the pommel of his dagger. As she turned to face him again she brought her left hand up and along her wooden blade, pulling off and tossing aside the cloak.

Despite his lack of training Jokor was proving to be a very unusual and creative opponent. Still, she had a point she wanted to prove with this exercise. Charging Jokor this time she aimed to pass by him on her right, and aimed a had slash with her training blade at the back of his knees.

Bottom of the Class (Jokor)

Postby Jokor on May 12th, 2011, 10:10 pm

Jokor didn't really see when exactly it went wrong, one moment he had jaelyn on the ropes, his dagger just barely missing her side while a few moments later he felt a stinging pain on the back of his knees and felt face first onto the ground. Letting out a pained groan as he lifted his head from the ground before just letting it fall back on the ground, he knew that he couldn't take her on in a straight fight and she wanted to show him that you could win a fight without killing him or beating your opponent into a pulp? He smirked, though jaelyn couldn't possibly see it from her angle. He was going to let her see what the big problems of that kind of fighting where. Beginning with the age old wounded gazelle gambit. He muttered a string of curses as he rubbed his head doing as if his legs where hurting a bit to much to continue the fight.
