Valan Windrider
Race: Human, Mixed (Human & Drykas) Age: 24 Gender: Male Date of Birth: Autumn 16, 486 Hometown: Sea of Grass
Physical Description Valan is tall and slim, tightly muscled like a runner. His face is slim and pointed, with high cheekbones and a royal composure, a tad ironic considering his background. His chestnut hair is a mass of curls, usually spring freely on all sides. For important social events (which doesn't happen often), however, he will tie his curls back into a ponytail, usually with a bit of grease.
Valan's eyes are a piercing blue, and combined with his sparkling smile, add to his allure; many a maiden has fancied Valan. His body, however, is scarred; small white lines dot his body, mostly around his extremities and specifically around his wrists. They are the by-product of arduous work/mischief. A elaborate, scrolling black tattoo around his arms and part of his left cheek and around his eye- that is his windmark. A second, hurricane-like tattoo swathes his shoulders; the mark of Zulrav.
Valan dresses light yet decent, finding a balance between that which is appropriate for all social classes and yet can be rolled up in a bag for travel. His general outfit consists of a leather jerkin pulled over a cotton shirt. Both are decorated in bright, shades of amethyst and purple, but to better mix with humans these traits have been downplayed, dulled with threads of brown. However, it is clear to tell he's of Drykas origin; If you look at his belt closely, you'll notice a complicated knotwork surrounding the brass buckle- traditional Drykas handiwork. There is also a purple sash above it, another giveaway. The pants they hold up, however, are but a simple brown leather. The pants held up by the He also wears a pair of well-used sandals, and a dusty cloak, well-used, and of Human design; it's a plain, uninteresting brown.
Mental Description Personality: Most of the time, Valan is carefree and doesn't worry about much, just "going with the flow", as he likes to call it. This personality will job when he gets a job, however, and Valan will instead adopt a deadly-serious attitude, and with this comes the inherent worries, tension, and suspicion intertwined with it. He's as snappy as a rabid dog during these moments, but after the job is over Valan seems to lift the load off his shoulders and revert back into the happy-go-lucky character he once was. Valan loves good company and a good beer, and treats all with the same respect, regardless of class or caste. He does love to pull tricks over people, I must warn, oftentimes ensnaring gullible fools with cunning words and enticing offers. However, this is only for fun (and he hopes the victim enjoys the prank as well- though that is not usually the case) and does not pull tricks out of malice.
Valan, being who he is, tries to live life to the full and in this aspect he might be a bit reckless. He's always the first one to try something new; whether it's a new food or jump into a new land. A bit brash, Valan doesn't think before he jumps, and in this can cause some problematic situations. This reckless translates into the typical blunt forwardness customary of Drykas- Valan is not afraid to speak his mind, no matter how much trouble it gets him in. Especially when it comes to his Strider, Raisa- to be succinct, you don't mess with the horse.
However, none of this makes up for the fact Valan feels purposeless. He feels as if the adventure of his life, the destiny he's supposed to lead, is waiting just out of reach, and Valan is restless and moves around a lot because of it. He takes solace in the fact that Zulrav chose him and must have a purpose in life for him, but some days Valan despairs over the fact he does not know what is lying out there for him. But he reminds himself he is Drykas- he is strong enough to stand up to whatever lies in the darkness ahead. And hey, not knowing is half the fun, right? |
