Home of the Konti people, this ivory city is built of native konti stone half in and half out of the sea. Its borders touch the Silverwood, and stretch upwards towards Silver Lake, home of the infamous konti vision water. [Lore]

Spring 12, 511 AV

Blythe was standing barefoot on the bamboo reed matts of the lowest level of the Suvai Pavilion. She was standing alone, to the far right hand corner of the room, away from the door that led inside. She stood in front of a training dummy. The dummy was a simple, white-cloth bound sack of feathers, which had been bound to a long wooden pole by a series of tightly coiled, tan rope. Attached to the bottom of the pole was a circular platform which held the entire contraption in one place.

Blythe stood in front of the dummy with her right foot about a foot in front of the left. It was pointed directly at the dummy, whereas the left was turned to the side. To the left, so that together her feet made a ninety degree angle. Her knees were bent, and she appeared to be leaning into the right one a little more than the left, as though she were using it to support her weight. This doesn't feel right, perhaps the left leg she be a little straighter, Blythe thought, as she adjusted her posture. Her back was straight, although it was leaning forward slightly, following the length of her left leg in an upwards diagonal line. Although, if one were to look, this fact was nearly unnoticeable.

Blythe was holding a wooden practice katana in her hands. Her right hand was resting two inches above the left, her fingers curled into the wooden hilt. The blade was hovering about ten inches over her right knee, and Blythe was staring directly at the wooden practice dummy. The blade seemed to slice her body in half, to cast a long gray crescent against the matts, which were glowing a pale yellow from the sunlight that trickled into the pavilion.

Blythe stood silently. Breathing in through the nose, and then slowly out through the mouth with a low sigh. Her heart was beating steadily in her chest as she took a step forward, raising her sword as she went. Slowly, she brought the sword down on top of the practice dummy. The sword landed in the center of the fabric with a muffled thud. As soon as she had hit it, Blythe took a step back and returned to her starting position. Then she stepped forward, a little faster this time. She raised her sword so that it was hovering just above her head, and then she rapidly brought it back down on the dummy. There was another muffled thud as the practice sword made contact with the dummy.

Blythe side-stepped to the right, around the left side of the dummy. As she did so, the blade twisted so that it faced her body. Blythe took a step back, so that the blade fell off the white fabric. When the blade was hers once more, she stepped around the dummy, and then swung her arm outwards, so that the wooden blade would cut across the dummy's side. Ooomf. Blythe pulled the blade back towards her and then shot her hand out again towards the dummy. The blade sliced across its center. Ooomf.

Blythe took another step around the dummy, and soon found herself back in the place where she had began. "This really is far easier when you have someone to practice with," Blythe whispered. "Perhaps a meditation is in order, and after that, I can go home; wait for the next class." The Konti hesitated for a moment. She had only just begun to practice, but she certainly wasn't enjoying it. It was simply not quite the same when no one else was around.

Blythe sighed, as she set the practice blade down with all of the others. Clink. She walked towards the center of the empty matt, and sat down. She assumed the lotus position a moment later. Her palms were resting on her knees, face up towards the ceiling. Her eyes were closed. As soon as you are done with this, you may go home. Kariha always said that this was the most important.

Blythe began her meditation by breathing in through her nose, and out through her mouth. With each inhalation, she'd hold her breath for six seconds, allowing the ethereal substance to fill her lungs, and make her chest feel somewhat tight before letting it out with a satisfied sigh. With each breath she took in, she imagined herself relaxing more and more, while with each exhalation, she imagined herself getting rid of all the stress she had been feeling about things such as her work, and how her katana lessons were going.

Blythe continued to breath in through the nose, and out through her mouth for several minutes. After which time, she decided to start energizing herself again. She imagined with each inhalation that she was drawing in a clear, pure energy from the air that surrounded her. With each exhalation, she imagined herself getting rid of any lingering feels of tiredness. Blythe continued the process until she began to feel a newfound burst of energy. Just enough of one to take the edge of off the tiredness that lingered around the edges of her eyes.

Blythe balled her hands into fists, and clenched them tightly. Her knuckles grew red, and then white with the effort. Her light green veins seemed to pop out of her pale skin as her muscles tensed. They seemed to wind themselves into tight knots, which were predominately concentrated around Blythe's fingers. Blythe held her hands like this for a minute, before releasing her fists. Her hands instantly tingled, and felt strangely lighter. Far more relaxed. Her hands felt warm. Slowly, she clenched her hands into fists again, and then opened them. She repeated this process five more times. Her arms were beginning to grow warm, as her hands began to turn red with the repeated motion.

Blythe's muscles were relaxing. She could feel more and more energy seeping into her bones as her body reawakened. She raised her hands, and pressed them together. Her palms felt warm as she began to rub them together. She could feel them heating up more and more as she continued to rub them together. They made a strange sli sli dewey sli noise. As she did this, Blythe pulled her legs out from beneath her body, so that they would be outstretched before her now.

The Konti began to move her feet. She'd point them outwards and away from her, and then up towards the ceiling, and then towards her. Then up towards the ceiling, then away, then up to the ceiling, to her again. Blythe continued to do this as she rubbed her hands together. She started off slowly, but soon began to pick up the pace, so that her foot was merely flexing back and forth. Back and forth. Back and forth.

Suddenly, after several minutes of rubbing her hands together, and pointing her toes, Blythe stopped what she was doing. A strange tingling sensation coursed through her body as her hands rested on her knees. She seemed to be trembling. But it is only energy. As soon as the feeling had died down, Blythe began to rub her hands over the length of her leg. She started at the knee, and headed upwards towards her hips, and then back again. She could feel her thigh muscles clenching and unclenching as she moved, generating a feeling of warmth throughout the length of her legs. After about five minutes, Blythe stopped what she was doing, and simply rested her hands in her lap. She could feel her skin prickling as the heat she once felt died down. She could still almost feel her old movements- her hands passing over her skin.

It all made her feel so very relaxed, and yet, so full of life and energy. It was this feeling that Blythe concentrated on. How light she felt. How alive. Her heart seemed to be soaring as she simply sat on the matts. The level of energy she felt was growing, encompassing every nook and cranny and her body. Every muscle, every organ, every inch of skin, of bone; every cell.

Blythe was completely energized now, and it felt good.

Slowly, Blythe opened her eyes, and looked around. You are ready to go home now, her mind reminded her as she got to her feet and headed out the door, towards her family's home.

Good thread. I especially liked the second post, your vivid description of the meditation. Apart from that, such a short thread is really not much to work with.
