Renaria was born on the 25th day of Summer, 510AV to two Kelvic parents. Cala, a beautiful horse Kelvic and Detran, a kestrel. She had a happy, if not extremely short, childhood. She was always the child with the most energy, always found outside still running and jumping and climbing, long after the other children had retreated inside. She retains very few memories of these times, save for a few fleeting moments spent playing and listening to her parents tell stories.
Halfway through Spring, a man known as Ithus Greenbyre made an entrance into Renaria’s life. An old friend of her father, Ithus was the person who would be teaching the young Kelvic all she needed to know. Her parents had taught her the fundamentals of reading and writing – a normal child’s education. However, Renaria’s animal was a snow leopard, and she needed to learn far more than a horse and a bird could teach her. Ithus took the form of a mighty panther, and so he agreed to teach her how she would survive. The pair left Syliras on the 78th day of Summer, and Renaria has never been back since.
Ithus told her that they were heading for Avanthal. She knew not where it was or what it was like, but she understood it had snow, so she was content. They would be travelling slowly, so Ithus had said they would be reaching Avanthal around the middle of Winter. He had also told her that they would be avoiding cities, with the exception of Nyka, where they would be taking a one-day stop. Renaria was both excited and nervous as she said one final goodbye to her parents, and set off for Avanthal.
They reached Nyka within 17 days. Their stop was un-eventful, as the pair were only there to buy any provisions they might need for the road ahead. The first leg of Renaria’s long journey was over, and while Ithus’ official teaching had yet to begin – she felt she had already learned a great deal. They next headed west, the direction they would be travelling for the remainder of their journey. Ithus was skilled in his navigation, and he was taking the young Kelvic on a direct line to the city. This meant that they would not pass though any form of settlement until they arrived, and he felt it would be the ultimate teaching experience since they had to survive alone.
Along the way Renaria learned how to track her prey over multiple terrains before moving in for the kill. She learned the best ways to approach different types of prey and the various methods she would need to make a clean kill. Ithus also taught her how to survive. He showed her how to find somewhere safe to sleep and how to travel without expending all her precious energy.
It took them many, many days, but they finally entered Avanthal on the 71st day of Winter. They had spent time outside its gates, making sure that Renaria had learned all she needed to, and only then did they enter the city as humans. They left the same day, and a little way from the gates, the pair bid farewell to each other – complete with the knowledge that they would never again meet.
Now Renaria’s future lies ahead of her. She wants to travel, that much she is sure of. Her end destination is unknown to her, but an adventure is certainly what she needs.
Post-Creation Renaria lived outside Avanthal city for almost two weeks before she had her first real human interaction. That is not to say that she had never spoken to anyone before then, since she would take a trip through the Icewall Gates to look through the shops and occasionally purchase an item of food every now and then. However, on the 85th day of Winter, she was wandering near the gates, perhaps looking for a rabbit trail, when a young Vantha man stopped just outside of them. She was intrigued by him, and she headed over to investigate. Since she was so small the Vantha didn’t see her, and as a result the kelvic almost ended up with an arrow through her. She managed to reveal herself to him before he loosened his bow though, which resulted in the man becoming curious about the little snow leopard. Eventually, Renaria showed him her human side and the young Vantha revealed himself to be Atyvn. He took the girl through the gates of the city to find her a warm meal, and the pair quickly became friends.
A season later, both Renaria and the pair’s friendship had grown. The kelvic was now a year old, seemingly 18 in her human form. Atyvn was now her closest friend, and the two rarely spent a day without seeing each other. On the 73rd day of Spring, Atyvn presented her with a necklace that he had crafted himself. This sparked something inside the young girl and she realized that she had been made for him. She was tentative, worried about rejection, but eventually she told him. The pair Bonded and have been inseparable ever since. |
