A Pleasant Ride (Elisse)

Postby Jaelyn Baroth on June 11th, 2011, 5:19 pm

Season of Summer, Day 5, 511 AV

The day was creeping towards hot, and Jaelyn covered her eyes with her right hand as she emerged from Stormhold into the Main Gate courtyard. She had spent the morning training inside, but now she was wanting to take a ride outside the walls for some fresh air and hopefully a cooling breeze.

Making her way past the various other people heading this way our that Jaelyn walked towards Windmount Stables. She was wearing just her simple white tunic, brown pants, leather boots, and her sword at her hip, and she walked with a light step thanks to her time spent training in full plate.

Coming up to the stables she smiled softly and nodded to the few people she recognized before she proceeded within to find a horse to ride. Most the time when she came here she was quick to saddle and mount her horse, but today she had no overall goal. She took her time wandering among the stalls as she looked at each horse to try and find one that would fit her mood today.

A Pleasant Ride (Elisse)

Postby Elisse on June 11th, 2011, 5:30 pm

Elisse had been sitting in the Stone Gardens all morning. Since arriving in Syliras, fresh from studying at the University of Zeltiva, she had continued to learn by her own accord. She felt there were no bounds to the amount of knowledge one could posses, and so she took each moment as an opportunity to find new things.

The day had been gradually growing hotter, and finally, she had had enough. She squinted up at the sun before returning her book to her bag. She stood quickly and made her way out of the Gardens, before wandering in the direction of the stables. She was dressed in simple white pants with a purple tunic, her attempt at Summer clothing. She was planning to travel soon, so she figured that she needed to find a horse. Actually, first she needed to learn to ride properly. She did have a little experience in the saddle from riding her fathers old mare, but that was her limit.

When she reached the Windmount Stables Elisse spotted a woman walking slowly among the horses. She approached her cautiously. "Excuse me?" She waited till the woman had turned round. "Do you know where I might be able to find someone to teach me to ride?" Elisse didn't know if the woman worked there - judging by her clothing she didn't - but it was worth a shot.

A Pleasant Ride (Elisse)

A voice from behind caused Jaelyn to look over her shoulder, and when she realized the elegant looking woman was talking to her she turned around with a soft smile. Listening to the woman's question the Squire gave a small nod in reply, "You can usually speak to Serena about lessons, but she looked like she would be busy for a while."

Jaelyn hesitated for a moment, grey eyes glancing over the nearby horses in their stalls, "If you would like, I could try and teach you the basics at least. I came here to work on my riding anyways," she turned her gaze back to the woman and smiled softly again, "I am no expert, but I know enough I could at least get you started, if you would like."

Walking up to the brunette Jaelyn offered her hand to her in greeting, "I am Jaelyn Baroth, Squire of the Syliran Knights, and you are?"

A Pleasant Ride (Elisse)

OOCSorry, it's short. My computer is being an idiot :/
Elisse returned the woman's smile. Her eyes slid away from the friendly gaze for a moment as she scoured the stables quickly for this Serena, though she refocused her attention on the woman when she spoke again.

"You would teach me?" Elisse knew few people in the city, but most she had come across didn't seem to be so generous. To offer up a portion of ones day to help out a total stranger was beyond nice. "Well I know the very basics, so I suppose anything you could show me would be beneficial."

She smiled again and reached out to grasp the woman's hand. "Elisse Tebriu." She paused for half-a second, figuring she should elaborate a little. "Alumni of Zeltiva University. It's a pleasure to meet you."

A Pleasant Ride (Elisse)

OOCNo worries. :)

"A pleasure to meet you as well Elisse," for a brief moment the mention of Zeltiva brought to Jaelyn's mind thoughts of Kendall and Markus, but she quickly pushed such thoughts away, "Come, let us find a horse for us to use."

Returning her attention to the stalls holding the horses Jaelyn approached one that had drawn her attention earlier, a docile seeming one with a soft brown color to it. As she walked towards it she asked, attempting to make conversation, "Might I ask, what you studied at Zeltiva University?"

Approaching the stall with the horse Jaelyn paused, and then turned to the woman with a soft smile, "Do you know how to saddle a horse already? If not, now is as good a time to learn as any."

A Pleasant Ride (Elisse)

Elisse smiled and nodded, before letting go of the woman's hand. She let her eyes roam over the many horses occupying the stalls, her gaze lingering on a pretty dapple-grey.

She noticed that Jaelyn had already moved off, so she followed, quickly stepping up beside the woman. "My studies? I had lessons in Anthropology and Art, but my main study was in..." She trailed off and paused for a moment. "Reimancy." She watched the woman for her reaction. Of all the people Elisse had met, not all of them had turned out friendly when they discovered she was a mage.

Elisse looked up at the brown horse, and then back at the woman."I have done before, but that was before my studies so it's been a while." She was fairly sure she could do it if she had to, but a demonstration wouldn't go amiss.

A Pleasant Ride (Elisse)

At Elisse's mention of what she had studied Jaelyn smiled softly, "Sounds like you were very busy. I must admit I am not exactly sure what Anthropology or Reimancy is, but I can certainly appreciate how much work can go into creating art."

"Well, best to do a refresher then," Jaelyn said as she moved into the stall with the horse, "I am sure you will be able to remember it quickly, it is not too complicated."

Taking the brush from the nearby wall Jaelyn set to work brushing down the hair where the saddle and blanket would sit, working any dirt out she found. After she was finished there she picked up the blanket hanging nearby, and put that into place. Once that was nicely settled on went the saddle, placed gently on the horse's so as to not startle it. Finally she went to the other side of the horse, checking it, and then cinching up the strap from there so the saddle was nice and snug.

"Easy enough, right?" Jaelyn said with a soft smile as she turned back to Elisse, "I hope you do not mind sharing a horse. Squires can use them for training for free, but most everyone else has to pay to rent them."

A Pleasant Ride (Elisse)

Elisse stepped up to the stall door as Jaelyn entered. "Anthropology is a fancy word for the study of races. So I basically learned about the various races that live in the world." She smiled. "And Reimancy... is a type of magic." She left it at that. If the woman was interested she would explain further, but for now her attentions were on the horse.

She watched carefully as a brush was first taken to the creature's back, smoothing the hair and generally prepping the area. Then on went the blanket, followed by the saddle. Elisse noticed how carefully the Squire positioned it so that it would not rub on the horses nape, and how she cinched the strap slowly so that she wouldn't pinch the delicate skin on it's undersides.

She smiled and nodded in agreement. "Easy." She reached out to gently pet the horses nose. "I don't mind at all. But I will happily pay rent for a day. It will save you the bother of mounting and dismounting all the time."

OOC :
I can get Eli to rent a horse for her to use no problem.
If you want Jaelyn to agree to that, then you can carry on and post like Elisse is doing so, and I'll match my thread up to yours.
Either way I don't mind (:

"You studied art, anthropology, and magic?" Jaelyn asked in response to Elisse's explanation, her voice holding a bit of awe in it, "That is impressive. You must be quite the scholar to learn so much."

"There is no need to spend your Mizas," Jaelyn said with a soft smile as she took the horse's reigns and led it out of the stall, "I am not in armor today so getting on and off should not be a problem, and some things might be easier to teach if we are both in the saddle."

Climbing up into the saddle quickly Jaelyn then slid back, to make room for Elisse, and then offered the young woman her arm with a soft smile, "Shall we head out to the field?"

OOCHope you don't mind, thought it could be more interesting with just one horse. :)

Elisse smiled. "I was determined to show my parents that I could do what I wanted." She paused. "And the art was mostly just a side class. Nothing too much." She gave a wry smile. She was probably no more of an artist than she was before she had taken the class.

She stepped back so that the woman could lead the horse through. She gave a quick nod. "Oh, okay, I suppose that's fair enough." She watched Jaelyn mount up before taking the arm that was offered to her. She hauled herself into the saddle; there were probably more dignified way that what she chose, but it didn't really matter to her as long as she managed not to fall off.
"Yes, fine. Wherever you think would be the best place to go." She smiled again before realizing that the woman probably couldn't see her face, and instead just waited for her to nudge the horse forwards.
