While Sylira is by far the most civilized region of Mizahar, countless surprises and encounters await the traveler in its rural wilderness. Called the Wildlands, Syliran's wilderness is comprised of gradual rolling hills in the south that become deep wilderness in the north. Ruins abound throughout the wildlands, and only the well-marked roads are safe.

Tenderly he held her close, the warmth of her body heat soaking into his core, and the feel of her breath caressing his skin as his hand slowly rolled over her muscles in her back. Her body felt like velvet to his touch, and he thought about how it felt good to have her near him. Was this what it was like to have someone he wondered as he rested his chin on the top of her back and gently stroked it up and down. He couldn't help but keep his reservations though, there was still that fear that when he woke up he would be robbed blind, and she would be nowhere to be found. It had happened before and how did he know that she wouldn't do the same?

The thoughts filled him with angst but he attempted to brush them away by focusing on the words Cass was now speaking. " Don't worry about it, besides I wouldn't make you wear gloves, I find the cuts rather… endearing he responded with a soft smile kissing her again, and running his hands over hers, lifting the back of one to his cheek, and rubbing his face against it. " I rather like your hands anyways " he said lightly kissing the back of it before settling it back down on his chest. It was a good thing to know that at least one of them could see in the dark, he felt a bit safer that way. If a thief tried to steal upon them during the night either one of them would be a lot safer in a fight in the inky darkness.

Her body felt even warmer as she snuggled in close to him, and he felt his eyes begin to tingle with a slight fuzziness that signified that he was growing tired. Slowly his eyes closed, and he kissed her softly and his mind began to drift off into the oblivion that was sleep.

* * * * *

Several hours later he awoke to the same pitch black darkness that had surrounded his sleep, and for a few moments he wasn't even sure if he was awake. He felt conscious enough, but how does one differentiate between dreams and reality after all. Bah! it was too early for philosophical musings! There where odder things to examine, like the fact that Cass was still here with him, still within his arms, or at least that’s what he hoped the warm bundle in his arms was. He smiled slightly, perhaps there was hope yet for them, and he decided to lie still until she had awoken, he was a patient man.

Another? (Cass)

Postby Cass on June 14th, 2011, 4:19 am

Sweet relief flooded through Cass when Darian showed no fear or disgust towards the tiny wounds. In fact he even lifted up her hand to touch his cheek! She smiled even though she knew he might not be able to even see her smile. It was quite dark in the room. And humans weren't able to see in the dark, unless they had evolved without her noticing...which was a possiblity. All snuggled up beside Darian her eyelids grew heavier and heavier. Here she was, about to sleep with a human she had only met yesterday but she felt completely safe with him. True, she assumed he was mostly blind at the moment, but she wasn't and any fool who dared to break in would most likely greet death rather quickly. Or walk away wounded. But she somehow doubted that such a thing would occur. At least, not tonight. Not after this particular night.

Finally sleep claimed her and pulled her out of reality and back into the confusing world of dreams. Snippets of darker memories lingered around the recent brighter memories surrounding Darian. Images of the wolves attacking them lingered along with the memories of their time in the pond. Her dreams continued on and on throughout the night, constantly morphing and changing. But there was a peaceful light within each one: Darian.

********

It was the faint unfamiliar sounds that yanked Cass out of her dreams and plopped her back into reality. Her eyes opened wide as she silently listened to all the strange noises going on outside their quarters. These sounds were nothing like the noises back int he wilderness or even in the tunnels. No, it was all different. Glancing over at Darian happiness filled her to see that he was still there beside her. But he was laying still. Was he still asleep? Cass didn't know and she didn't want to wake him up any eariler. He needed his rest and the later he woke up the better. Cass hated the morning. But healing mattered more to her at the moment.

But still, these noises! Being as silent as she could, Cass carefully slipped out from beneath the covers and crawled over Darian, doing her best not to touch him. It was much harder since she had to keep most of her weight off her injured ankle. Once she finally crawled over Darian she gently placed both of her feet down on the ground. She had yet to even put weight on her ankle when pain exploded and stormed up her leg. Hissing in pain Cass immediately yanked her ankle up and clutched it protectively. With a sigh she decided to wait for Darian to get up before investigating the noises any further.

Looking over at his sleeping...no, wait. He was awake! Cass wanted to slap herself for not thinking about seeing if his eyes were open or not. "Um, uh..." She searched her mind for the proper morning greeting humans shared with each other. "Good...morning?"

As he lay there still in the bed for a long time as the moments stretched out he thought he might have to wake her himself, but then he felt slight movement on the bed, like as if someone was trying to shift their weight, like one would do to stretch when they woke up or roll over. Instantly a smile brightened his face, and he felt a very warm tingling inside. He leaned to the side to try and find his pack on the ground when he felt more of the shifting of weight on the bed and he abruptly stood still. What was she doing? Was she going to try and leave him in his sleep? The thoughts spiraled through his mind, one after another each more horrible than the last, and a deep anxiety filled him but he resolved to stay quite to see what she did. Almost at the last moment, just a few rings after he heard Cass draw a sharp breath, he closed his eyes, remembering that Cass could see in the dark. The test needed her to believe he was asleep, and he hoped she hadn't seen his eyes open.

Still she must have noticed his eyes where open since immediately after he closed his eyes she greeted him. Why else would she talk to a sleeping person after all? " Good morning, what brought you from the bed? " he asked softly, and smiled hoping she could see it. Deep down he worried about her exact intent on leaving whether she was in the process of robbing him or not. Who knew, only time could tell.

Leaning over again, he reached down towards his bag and rummaged through it wrapping his hand around a piece of flint and pulled it up from the bag. " Mind your eyes, I’m going to relight the candle " he added before striking the flint and watching the wick of the candle flare to life. With the golden light he could see Cass again, and pleasingly she was undressed which was a good thing right, it meant that she wasn't trying to leave. " How did you sleep during the night? " he also asked, figuring it to be suitable somewhat while they were on the subject of mornings.

A breath of relief escaped Cass. Good, she had used the proper morning greeting. She looked down at her hands clutching her ankle and thought about the idea of letting go to touch Darian. But where would she put her ankle? She had just proven to herself that her ankle had gotten worse and now hurt more than before. Finally she decided to keep her hands around her ankle, just to keep the pain down. Looking back at Darian she smiled a tiny bit. "The, um, the noises." She gestured with her head towards the door. It was only after that when she realized he probably couldn't even see the gesture. "I heard noises outside the door. Thought it was morning. I thought about investigating the noises but...um..." her eyes fell back onto her ankle she clutched, "...didn't work out."

Listening to Darian's warning she looked away as he lit the candle. A golden glow burst free into the room, illuminating everything once again. Waiting a moment for her eyes to adjust Cass turned her gaze back onto Darian. "I slept well. You?" Looking down at the small pile of clothes on the floor Cass leaned down and picked both of their clothes up and set them on the bed between them. "We're going to see a healer now, right?" Spotting her bra band she finally pulled both of her hands away from her ankle and began pulling the simple band over her head to cover her exposed breasts. "How is your arm?"

Thoughts of finally seeing a healer swam through her mind. It wasn't until she grabbed her shirt when she realized that the mud and dirt on her skin had flaked off a bit. She would have to cover up the bits of exposed skin if she wanted to remain unnoticed within the human city. "Darian...what would happen if a human in this city found out I was...different? A, erm, Zith?"

Darian couldn't help but feel a wave of relief as he found out that Cass was simply investigating some noises. She wasn't leaving? the thought was so foreign to him and he felt slightly happy that she wanted to stay. Even with how good he was feeling that moment his eyes inevitably drifted downwards to her damaged ankle, and he winced remembering the pain in his left arm, and both of their desperate need for a healer. It would be bad if their wounds got infected, and wound up worse than they started.

Sitting up in the bed, he slid himself along it so that his feet dangled over the side of it, and began similarly putting on cloths starting with his underpants. " I slept sound and well, and yes a healer would be very nice right about now " he said, sliding up the under cloth all the way up before standing up and putting on his armor. He was reluctant in using it, but it had to be done until he could find more suitable clothing to wear out on the streets. " My arm is alright, it could use a healer soon, how about your leg " he asked as he tugged on the final piece of his leg guards and hoisted the cuirass over his head to slip it on. Yes, it was something he was looking forward to getting out of the way.

" Perhaps I should go out first, and get some dirt and a shielding cloth for you before you go out, some people might get violent if they knew you were a zith " he said, and he hated that she couldn't travel freely in the city because of racial prejudices. Soon he was fully dressed in his armor, and standing up straight and he walked closer to Cass and kissed her lightly. " Would you like to come, or do you want to stay here while I run to retrieve the stuff " he asked with a smile, putting his hands on her shoulders.

Another? (Cass)

Postby Cass on June 15th, 2011, 2:37 am

Cass nodded, glad that Darian had slept well. With her shirt on she struggled to pull her underpants and shorts on, doing her best not to move her injured ankle around too much. "Yeah, a healer. It would be nice to meet with one." A breath of relief escaped her when both garmets were finally on. Looking over at Darian she took a moment to watch him as he put all of his black armor on. She then glanced at his bandaged arm. It looked okay. But Cass could only assume his injury hadn't gotten worse. "It's getting harder to put pressure on." It actually hurt a lot more than that but Cass kept that fact to herself.

Darian's offer to go out first surprised Cass. But as the surprise wore off she quickly began to understand the logic behind his offer. It was clear that the humans within this city didn't really like her. Well, she doubted the humans enjoyed being around Ziths. And the looks she got last night confirmed her fears. While she yearned to go out and watch the humans and learn more about them, she also wasn't in the mood to be killed or harmed. "No, you go first. Without another coat of mud and dirt some might see through my disgiuse and we're in no shape for a fight."

A brief sadness filled her. She wanted to explore the city but she couldn't. Not with an injured ankle and a poor disgiuse. The feel of Darian's lips lightly kissing hers suddenly caught her attention. A small smile returned to her face when his hands gently fell onto her shoulders. "I'll stay here and wait for you to return with our supplies. But don't..." she placed one claw-like finger onto the breast of his armor, "...let anyone harm you or else I'll have no choice but to kill them."

Remembering how painful her leg must be for her when she walked served to fill him up with a yearning to go and find a healer already but he knew that they would need to get some stuff before that was even possible. It seemed so trivial, but at the same time so vital to their survival if they were going to make it out there weakened as they where, and they would need every advantage they could get out in the wild streets, and alleys. " I'll make sure no blades find me this day " he said softly with a confident smile, though he knew that Sunberth was a unpredictable place and he had no way of controlling that. Still he could always hope that beyond a doubt he would stay safe out their if he kept his head low, and minded his own business. There was always that wild card but he disregarded that and instead focused on Cass again, giving her shoulders a light squeeze and planting another soft kiss on her lips before turning around and leaving, the door swishing closed behind him.

Then he was off making his way quickly from room to room till he was outside in the Castle commons and then immediately headed for a market he knew all to well, something that could help them along their way in things that they needed. The sun was ungodly bright today, and he was sure it was a sentiment Cass would share with him where she out here with him, and the thought elicited a pang of sadness within him as he found that he really missed her, but if he went about his business quickly he would be back by her side in no time. Thinking of her brought a smile to his face, and his eyes darted about to the various stalls and shops to see if any of them had what he needed.

The cobblestone walk was buzzing with activity, various people scurrying about from one end of the street to the next, their garbled chatter drowning down into a dull hum all around him, as the direct sunlight unhindered by any clouds beat down upon them all causing them to sweat and fill the air with a mixture of odors. It wasn't at all a pleasant smell to him, not at all similar to the smell of Cass the previous night, oh how he wished he was near her. The fact that he couldn't go long without thinking about her astounded him, but then again he felt somehow connected to her so he supposed he shouldn't consider that a surprise.

All the thought buzzing around in his head disappeared however when he saw a man standing beside some wooden racks holding cloths, likely his wares and source of income. The only thing between him was a throng of rather exceptionally dirty individuals, who smelled none to pleasant, but motivated that he was doing it for Cass he pushed his way through the men and women, finally immerging from the other side of the fleshy wall several moments later. Straitening up his cuirass he made eye contact with the merchant and nodded his greetings.

The vendor had a fine selection to be had he saw, possessing a majority of cotton products but a couple made from finer materials like silk or velvet. He knew he could't just by what he wanted and leave, the merchant would expect him to barter and if he didn't he would look like he had coin to spread around and likely catch the eye of a pickpocket. " Greetings sir, may I have a look at your wares? " he asked and upon receiving little other than a nod and a bestial grunt saying something along the lines of don't steal anything or I'll slit your throat, he walked around examining the racks with both him and Cass in mind. Something in particular caught his eyes, a delicate pair of black silk gloves lying in a box and he bent over and retrieved them putting them on the man's table before looking around some more.

Finally after a bell's worth in time he had found all that he needed and put them on a table in a stack, while looking over to the now smiling merchant, obviously looking forward to swindling him. In the pile was a cotton hood, a pair of black silk gloves, a average dress that he had managed to find, which to his dismay was the only dress the man had in stock, a black tunic, two large cotton cloaks, a pair of cotton breeches, and two sets of high black boots. " How much for these? " he asked calmly pretending to be ignorant of the prices that these items usually went for. " My, my, buying for a lady friend are ye?, well I feel for ye so I’m going to cut ye a deal, 30 gold mizas for the whole lot! " the grubby man said as if he was stating something totally unheard of, and for a second he almost believed him. Almost.

" Aye, but you got to understand, I don't have much in the way of coin, and I was a clothing vendor once upon a time till my shop got burnt to a crisp, I'm simply needing something to wear and I think ye be over charging me a bit don't you think? How bout we go for 15 gold mizas and call it a deal? " he said, almost as undercutting the price as the man was over selling it. " Bah you intend to run me out of business you be trying right their, no! No sir! I won’t sell it for anything under 25 gold mizas! " the shopkeeper blurted waving his hands about in an angry fashion. " But sir surely you understand I have fallen on some hard times, surely you could settle for 18 gold mizas? " he pleaded, trying to lower the price. " No! I'll bring it down to 22 gold mizas but that's my final offer " the man growled, and begrudgingly Darian handed him the coins, and picked up the pile of cloths. There he had gotten what he needed and could be back to Cass in no time.

* * * * *

It had been a harder trek back, but eventually he made it back to the inn they where staying and up to their room, and raising his fist he knocked on the door. Hopefully Cass will like these clothes he thought with a grin.

Another? (Cass)

Postby Cass on June 15th, 2011, 5:10 am

His lips brushed and kissed hers while his hands gently squeezed her shoulders. To Cass the moment went by far too quickly and before she knew it he was heading towards the door. She opened her mouth to say something but nothing came to mind. If any blades found Darian Cass planned on keeping her recent promise. She would rip that person to shreds in a heartbeat. And then maybe feed on his flesh and meat. Maybe. She sat on the edge of the bed and watched as Darian left the room. She listened to his quiet footsteps fade away, mixing in with the other strange noises going on outside the room.

A long minute passed as Cass sat on the bed and stared at the door. For a moment she expected him to walk right back into the room but...but that was silly. Surely it took longer than a few minutes to buy supplies. Shaking the lingering thoughts away Cass glanced about the room. So...what to do? She was all alone in a room most likely designed by a human and made for humans. But it was a bit bare so there wasn't much to explore.

"Y'know, now would be a great time to ditch the human," her imaginary friend's voice spoke up. Snapping her attention over to her right she found her "friend" leaning against the wall. "I mean, what more can you do with him? Unless you're finally gonna be a big girl and kill him."

"Would you go away," Cass hissed back at her annoying "friend".

Her imaginary friend barked in laughter. "I think it's funny that you think after all this time with you I'm just gonna disappear. Well, sorry to disappoint you but I'm not going anywhere. Just because you found a human to mate with doesn't mean all your other problems just flew out the window. You still bring shame upon your race. And now disgust. He was yours last night and you still couldn't do things properly and enslave them. You let him walk right out the door!"

"He's coming back," Cass whispered in response.

"Then kill him," her imaginary friend snapped. "Enslave him. Rob him blind. Torture him till he cries for his mother. Do something to prove to me that you are still a bloody Zith!"

"No!" Cass growled, narrowing her eyes at her "friend". Tearing her gaze from her imaginary friend she looked down at the ground, trying to calm herself down. Her "friend" wanted her to simply give in. Take Darian and destroy him. Destroy every single part of him. But how could Cass do such a thing? How could she even think of harming the only man who ever shared love with her?

Picking her head up to confront her "friend" she was a little bit surprised to find her gone. Closing her mouth she simply stared at the spot the other Zith had been. Cass didn't know how much time has passed but was suddenly jolted from her trance by the sound of knocking on the door. Wrapping her wings around her body Cass bit back the pain as she rose to her feet. Her fingers curled inward, ready for a fight if one occured.

"Yes?" she called out. "You may enter." And if it was a stranger, then it would simply be the matter of disposing another body.

Slowly he released the latch on the door, and pushed it open, walking in right after the door. " I’m back with our clothing " he said with a smile, and walked in putting the cloths in a pile on the bed and closed the door behind him. Shuffling through the pile he quickly sorted it out, placing a dress, cloak, and pair of boots on her side, and placing a pair of breeches, a cloak, and a tunic on his side, his cloths being all blacks and grays like his armor. " I found you something you might like " he added digging through the pile, and producing a pair of black silk gloves, and after pulled her own gloves off, pulled them over her hands.

" You wear them well " he said with a smile after a quick observation, and noticed that they went with her well in his opinion. " Do they feel good? " he asked, hoping he didn't buy something uncomfortable for the woman he cared for. While he listened to her, he busied himself with putting on the clothes he had purchased being especially careful with his very sore, and aching arm as he looped his feet through the holes in his breeches. Pulling them up, he fastened them in a tight knot, and was satisfied that they covered the majority of his leg armor adequately.

" Hope you like the dress as well, I was trying to find something of a finer quality for your but at last I saw nothing " he said as he pulled his cotton tunic over his head, and his arms through the holes and after a few moments of fighting with the fabric sat down and gestured towards the dress. He rather liked the dark fabric of the dress, and he figured it would help her along with her disguise so, he really hoped that she would like it as well. Shoving off his leather boots, and putting on the black high boots he quickly tied them and then sat back on the bed, relaxing and taking a time to look at Cass for a moment or two. She looked very pretty even in the morning under the light of a guttering candle.

Getting up after she had gotten dressed he wrapped his arms tight around her and planted a fierce kiss on her lips, his bluish eyes sparkling as they met hers, and he broke contact with her lips long enough to speak. " Looks like we will finally get the chance to see that healer and give you a taste of the city " he said with a tender smile before burying his head in her neck and kissing it. It felt so good being sheltered there for some reason.

Her curled fingers instantly relaxed when the door opened and Darian stepped inside. Pulling her wings back from around her body she smiled as he closed the door behind him and headed over to the bed, sorting out the clothes he had purchased. Cass turned around slowly to watch him sort. She was already pleased with her own pile of new human clothes that she blinked in surprise at the new black silk gloves Darian had also spent his coin on. The black silk felt much softer than her old gloves and looked much less dirty and worn. In fact, they looked rather nice on her. They even covered up her claws fairly well. Flexing her fingers she nodded. "They fit perfectly. Thnak you." Her gaze went back to rest on her new stack of clothes. "Thank you for all of this."

Eager to wear her new clothes Cass began to carefully remove her old shirt and shorts. She placed both into her pack just in case she would need them later. She spotted Darian busy putting his own new clothes on over his armor. Carefully picking up the black dress she smiled as she ran her gloved fingers gently down the length of it. All these new human clothes would definitely help her blend in more with the humans. Folding her wings up neatly behind her back Cass put the dress on, enjoying the feel of the soft fabric against her skin. She looked behind her at her back side. While there was an abnormal bump the cloak Darian had also bought would conceal it more. "The dress is perfect. Thank you."

Sitting down on the edge of the bed Cass first pulled one of the boots onto her good foot and then carefully pulled the other boot over her injured ankle. With her new boots on Cass gingerly rose to her feet and stuffed her gloves and boots into her pack. As she straightened Darian came froward and wrapped his arms around her and planted a kiss upon her lips. Cass eagerly kissed him back until he broke away to speak. A smile spread across her face as he spoke of exploring the city before burying his face into her neck. The feel of his lips planting kisses along her neck caused her to laugh lightly. "I've been dying to explore this city you love so much. It's all interesting and new."

Lowering her head to plant a kiss on his cheek she reached out to grab her new cloak. "Lead the way."
