Physical Description

From almost the time the Maelstrom children could walk, especially the females, Amethyst Maelstrom taught her girls morphing. It kept all the gems of the Maelstrom family strong, lean, and healthy. Magic takes a lot of effort, and often times moreso than one earns using it to catch ones dinner. Thus Topaz is in really good shape; tall and lean for a Svefra. Her dark hair is straight and she tends to keep it that way, a distinguishing characteristic from her twin Moostone who often has tendrils flying away. Light blue eyes often give her a cold gaze even as her smile warms up her face.

Topaz is 6'0 exactly and only considers herself adequate at swimming and sailing. Mostly she blames her Tavan, Crystal, for her lack of aquatic skills. Crystal is usually with her when shes in the water making the need for learning to swim not that pressing.

Unlike most Svefra, Topaz likes plain dress and doesn't often accessorize other than for her topaz earrings. She has a tattoo on her shoulder of a hammerhead shark marking her as part of the Maelstrom pod. On her left shoulder a dolphin leaps, tattooed for her tavan crystal.

Character Concept

Topaz is the reserved one of the family. She smiles often but is rarely an instigator. She'll join in the fun when invited, but sometimes finds joining crowds rather awkward. She much prefers preforming for crowds, be it signing or playing her mandolin or violin. She even sings a bit and knows songcrafting so she can write songs for her Pod.

Topaz is incredibly close to her family and is something of a keeper of secrets for the rest of them. She forgives them almost anything and loyally defends them in all things. Moonstone is her twin and their closeness comes from this bond as well as a deep and personal relationship with both their pod and Laviku.

Topaz will befriend almost anyone when it comes to music, playing with complete strangers and swapping songs and tales. She's trusting, somewhat to a fault, though she generally dislikes outsiders who are non svefra unless they have blue eyes.

[Topaz Maelstrom]

Abstract

If one were to describe the Maelstrom's with a singular word, that word would have to be TROUBLE. When the Maelstrom's are around, any organization seems to dissolve into light-hearted chaos. Lia Turquoise has used her tavan, the hammerhead shark, as the Pradisa which has interestingly enough never changed in all of the Maelstrom's long existence. Thus, the Maelstrom's believe that whomever acquires a tavan that is a hammerhead shark close around the time of Turqoise's death, will automatically become Lia, bucking all Svefra tradition.

Unusually, the Maelstrom's have a history of twins in the family as the current Lia is a twin (Malachite is deceased). They are friendly, approachable, and have a fairly even balance of craftsman, musicians, and artisans throughout their ranks. To an individual, almost every Maelstrom knows one or more forms of magic. They do not fear arcana, but rather embrace it as yet another tool in the pods rather extensive arsenal. The Maelstroms are known to adopt orphaned Svefra (and blue-eyed humans), treating them as their own.

The current Pod is composed of three Palivar's and numerous assorted Casinor. Renal, a shipwright, has long dreamed of crafting a Navar if his family grows enough because he knows the last Navar, belonging to the last Lia'Tavanka was either dry-docked or burned upon her death.

There are positions available for membership in the Maelstrom pod. Siblings are always welcome as well as parallel lines of family members from aunts and uncles thus creating cousins of the current siblings. Adoptive members are also welcome. Unlike many Svefra, Topaz has not had many Tavan. She's had the luck to have befriended a dolphin her mother's Tavan calved when she was an infant. Growing up learning to swim together, Crystal has been Topaz's one companion. That means they have been extremely close. Being the exact same age, Crystal tends to travel with the Maelstrom pod along with numerous other dolphins who are also Tavan, including her mother Giza who is still alive and doing very well. When Crystal was born, everyone knew she was very special for she was white, unlike her marked parents, and had a slight pink tint to her sikin. Rather than blue eyes, her gaze was pink, marking her as an albino. Topaz was instantly charmed even as an infant, as too was the whole of the Pod who saw Crystal as exceedingly good luck.
