[Windmount Stables] Don't Kick the Little One (Jokor)

Season of Summer, Day 23, 511 AV

Syna had just started to shed her light on the outer walls of Syliras, leaving Traveler's Row still in early morning darkness as Jaelyn approached the apartment Jokor was staying in. She wore her typical simple clothes, and in her left hand she held a wooden training sword along with a pair of wooden training daggers.

After taking a moment to make sure she was at the right apartment, not wanting to bother anyone else, Jaelyn knocked loudly on the wooden door several times before calling out, "Jokor, time to get up. It is time to go training for today!"

She had to admit she had been excited when Jokor mentioned wanting to join the Knighthood, but she also realized the life of a Squire might be a harsh adjustment for him. So she had decided to take some of her time training for the day and use it to help train Jokor as well.

Jokor's eyes snapped open when he heard a small knock on the door on his apartment, followed with the familiar voice of Jaelyn calling out to him. Slightly wondering what the heck he would have to get training for this time, he threw the blankets of him and grabbed the dagger that he had hidden underneath his pillow and slipped it back in its sheet before standing up from his bed and picked up the warhammer he bought a few day's ago, also shoving it in the holster hanging at his belt before he threw he threw on his cloak. Hiding his slept in clothes from view for the most part, before he went to open the door, he looked up at jaelyn.
“Now what are ya here for?”

[Windmount Stables] Don't Kick the Little One (Jokor)

Postby Jaelyn Baroth on July 13th, 2011, 2:45 pm

The smile Jaelyn had as Jokor opened the door was the biggest, warmest, and friendliest he had ever seen from her. She was not only excited for his desire, but proud that he had decided to take his life in such a positive direction. She almost would have thought it impossible when they first met, but how things had changed!

Gesturing in the direction of Windmount Stables Jaelyn replied brightly to Jokor's question, "As you said you were interested in joining the Knighthood I thought it would be good for you to get some training in at riding, and also on what a being a Squire is like. Do you know how to ride a horse already?"

She doubted Jokor had much experience with horses, from what she knew of his background, but still asked anyways. It was better to know than assume, and that was only more important when it came to the vital training that Squires received.

As soon as jokor saw Jaelyn's smile he couldn't help to but feel that whatever was coming he probably wasn't going to like at all, he quickly shoved that feeling away though. He wasn't in sunberth anymore so not everyone who smiled like that at you wanted to scam you or push you into a bad job. Not to mention Jaelyn was probably to naïve to even try to screw somebody over in that way.

As his question had left his mouth she immediately began gesturing towards a direction and began explaining. Jokor just looked at her with a blank look when she asked if he could ride a horse.
“Eh... should I be able to do that?”

[Windmount Stables] Don't Kick the Little One (Jokor)

Postby Jaelyn Baroth on July 19th, 2011, 5:08 pm

Jokor's question caused Jaelyn's eyebrow to quirk slightly, but the warm smile remained, "Yes, every Squire has to learn how to ride a horse in order to become a Knight. Even if you become a Knight who just patrols here in Syliras being able to ride a horse well is an invaluable skill."

Without giving Jokor much time to reply Jaelyn reached out to take his wrist and start to lead him towards the Windmount Stables, "Come, it is best to get started early. I am guessing you do not know how to saddle a horse as well then? We will start with that, and then once you know the basics of saddling and care we can move onto emergency dismounts. One of the best things to learn first."

The prospect of being able to help Jokor on the path to a better, more wholesome, life gave Jaelyn an excited energy that almost seemed to be radiating from her. Tyveth be praised, for surely the Lord of Honor had played a part in changing Jokor's opinion of the Knighthood and Syliras.

Jokor was a bit surprised that you actually needed to be able to ride a horse to become a knight but her explanation did make sense. It was a lot easier to patrol the roads and chase down anybody who threatenend them when they where riding on horses.
“Yeah that makes sense.” Jokor admitted, before Jaelyn grabbed his wrist and pulled him after her rattling of what he would have to learn and in what order.
“Well that doesn't sound to hard.” He said as he just let Jaelyn lead the way to the stables. “I mean how difficult could it be to put a saddle on a horse.”

[Windmount Stables] Don't Kick the Little One (Jokor)

Postby Jaelyn Baroth on July 21st, 2011, 8:40 pm

"It is not hard," Jaelyn agreed with a nod of her head as she lead Jokor through the entrance of Windmount Stables, and then quickly back towards where the horses were, "But it is important to make sure you get ride, especially if you are going to have them saddled for an extended period of time."

Finding a rather docile seeming horse among the ones present Jaelyn gave a nod, and then turned to face Jokor once more as she finally released his wrist, "How would you like to start? Do you want to watch me as I do it, have me just tell you what to do, or try to to do it together at the same time?"

She wanted to make sure to help Jokor as much as she could to become a good condidate for becoming a Squire, and so Jaelyn trusted to him to know what would work best for him. She didn't even contemplate the fact that he might have absolutely not clue, due to his history.

[Windmount Stables] Don't Kick the Little One (Jokor)

Jokor just followed Jaelyn as she guided him towards the stables, and pulled him through the entrance and towards the horses. All the while she was still talking about some stuf about how to ride a horse, something about getting them saddled for an extened period of time or something.

Jokor just nodded a bit in confusion and let her drag him towards one of the horses and shoved his hands back into his pockets as she released his wrist.
“I'll just watch as you are doing it and then try it myself, you said it yourself it can't be that hard.” Jokor said.He doubted he would even know how to begin with getting that saddle thing on the horse, and there was no way in hell that he would let anybody order him around. Not even Jaelyn was allowed to do that.

Jaelyn nodded in response to Jokor's choice on how they get started, and then climbed into the stall with the horse, "First, you need to make sure the horse is clean and ready to go," she repeated the instructions she had been given, and took a brush from the wall to start brushing the horse down from its left side, "Even if they look clean it's best to brush them down anyways to be sure."

Once she was done brushing down the animal she went and got a saddle blanket, placing it carefully on the horse, "Next you put the saddle blanket on, and make sure it's big enough to cover a little more than your saddle will. Not all are the same size."

Finally she got the saddle and placed it on the horse carefully before moving to start doing up the cinch, "You want this strap snug and tight, to keep your saddle from slipping, but not tight enough that it causes your horse pain. Think of it like putting a belt on yourself."

Finally she finished and took a step back, giving Jokor a soft smile, "And thaat is all you need to do to put a saddle on. Any questions?"

Jokor carefully listened to what jaelyn was saying as she began saddling the horse, taking a few steps closer so that he could more easily follow what she was doing.
He tried to remember everything that she was saying as she was saddling the horse and when she was finished and asked if there where any questions he just shook his head.

“Just brush the horse, put a blanket on its back making sure its big enough, put the saddle on and put that belt around the horse. Sounds easy to remember to me.” He crossed his arms and looked up towards Jaelyn.
“So you are going to let me do that again or do we just start the actual riding lessons now?” He looked towards the large horse with a bit of suspicion in his eyes. Not really thrusting the animal to not throw him of as soon as he tried climbing on it.
