59th of Summer, 508
[Nightfall descends upon the wilderness of Sylira and clouds the region in darkness, then twilight as the moon rises above the world to let it bask in an evanescent glow, the wilds are a dangerous place and even more so at night. Not just because of all manner of creature that might be lurking but also because animals, monsters too, aren’t the only things that might be waiting in the darkness to strike out at the unsuspecting. What manner of fate might befall the unwary traveller if he wasn’t careful in how he conducted his journey? Only the darkness knows for sure and it often prefers to keep its answers close to the chest.]
[Outside of Sunberth a small fire could be seen in a thicket of trees, it was concealed but poorly, however it was far enough away from the main road that anyone looking might have missed it or thought their eyes were playing tricks. Near the fire was a single tree, thick and tall marking it as old, and a hooded and cloaked figure that sat nearby with hands outstretched warming himself. Anyone could see that the man was alone. Also, he did not come with a tent nor any other supplies from the look of it marking this as a likely temporary place of rest for him. It wasn’t uncommon to see the occasional brigand around these parts but this man did not have the look of a sell sword about him, he looked bent and wizened, his clothes were tattered and frayed.]
[Eryss had only ventured out of Sunberth because he had been required to. It had been over thirty days since he burnt Karl alive in his own home and after a bit of legwork he was able to track down the last person he’d been looking for on his list. Odelia was her name. Years earlier she had been the matron of an orphanage which sold its children out as slave labourers, or worse, until they had either died or were old enough to be sent out into the world on their own. All of this was stricken from the ledgers of course, the children were listed as having been adopted when they were found dead or went missing and those of them who reached the age of adulthood usually died shortly afterwards. Escape from this woman often meant running away and hiding where they could never find you. Eryss could remember the night he and several of his friends ran quite clearly. Now he had come back to seek revenge and he would have it.]
[According to what Eryss had learned Odelia was leaving Sunberth after learning Karl and several of the others had been found dead. It had been relayed to him, by one of the men in her employ no less, that she would be on the road in the evening and would stop to make camp at night. Now Eryss was waiting, looking into the amber glow of his fire, he knew where they were but he wanted them to make camp and settle in before he moved off to strike. He was a patient man. Anger had a way of making you thus if it was tempered correctly. Harnessing anger made it a powerful weapon that one could draw strength from and when it was unleashed they could truly accomplish amazing feats.]
[Reaching out with one of his hands Eryss let his fingers flex closer to the flame of his fire. Allowing the flames to embrace his hand with their warmth he held it there, unwavering, while the heat built as though he were waiting for it to reach a pinnacle and start to burn him but before it happened he pulled away. Looking at his hand afterwards he laughed briefly and then began climbing to his feet where he stretched both of his arms and his back. Limbering himself up somewhat.]
[Smothering the fire he’d leave the embers to burn before moving off into the night, having decided it was time to seek out his quarry and pay her a visit, and in the direction of the road leading away from Sunberth. Eryss knew his way back to the road but once he found it he stayed purposefully off to the side and started to move adjacent its length, using the darkness and some of the trees to his advantage as a sort of natural camouflage as much as he could, earlier in the evening while he was looking out he had seen caravan of the woman so it shouldn’t be to far now.]
[Up ahead, after he’d been walking adjacent the road for several minutes, Eryss saw the light of another campfire just off the main road and he stopped. Creeping ahead Eryss would crouch so that he could take a closer look but not to close, the Wizard wasn’t exceptionally good at sneaking around so he wanted to keep his distance, only enough so that he could make out what was going on in the camp and make out a rough number of how many Guards there were. When he had made it to a better vantage point he’d stay low and crouched, watching through the loose brush of foliage, and then he started to count slowly while watching the movements of the men inside the camp. Everyone appeared quite relaxed and unassuming.]
[It was moments later as he watched that he heard a feminine voice calling for a Guard from a large, pavilion style, tent and then he knew that was where she was. Eryss clenched one of his hands until his nails were biting miserably into his palm and he backed away from the camp so that he could prepare himself just out of site of anyone who might come looking for something suspicious.]
