"Stop! Thief!" Ringing out across the empty marketplace a single growled line of words followed the small body of the thief weaving across the winding streets. Larger and faster by far, the hulking shadow of the pursuer loomed. Taking a less direct route, the thief placed one foot on a stone wall and jumped, trying to pull himself and his cloak together as he plummeted a few short feet to the street below. He landed with a roll, sending him tumbling across the dirt and rocks with a strangled cry. He hadn't the grace of Kit in tumbling and felt the sting of a thousand tiny cuts through the fabric of his cloak. The shouting of the man behind him motivated him to take his feet again, dashing close to shadow and shadow, using his small size to blend along the edge of perception.
But his feet pounded along the street, a patter of synthetic rain to lead on his pursuer.
Reaching near the end of a turn in the street, Wrenmae sent a channel of Djed through his hands and feet, feeling his toes and fingers twist even as they beat the ground. Claws, long, thin, and above all, strong, slid from fingers and toes and added a clacking to his steps.
As the large shadow loomed behind him, the beefy body fully eclipsing his own shadow on the ground in front of him, Wrenmae leaped sideways into the darkness, evading his wide armed grasp.
Wind rushed around him, the sickening sense of falling filling his body. Reaching out, he caught the edge of the wooden buildings and scraped to a painful stop, his fingers nearly breaking with the effort of his sudden halt. Breathing hard, letting the Djed withdraw and shift his fingers once more, he fell to the ground and collected himself. Here, silent, in the thick of the darkness, his pursuer passed by him. Still, being out on the streets now was dangerous.
Across the road an abandoned house hung quietly, the Rathiere mansion, crumbling edifice to an old family. Glancing up and down the road, Wrenmae scuttled across the road and past the warped portal into the house. Shadows leaped at him, carving oblivion into his path. Closing his eyes, Wrenmae once more called the Djed to them. He could feel the odd plasticity of his gaze warping, shifting from what it was before. The trick had been in finding the focus, the way to mimic correctly in more than shape. Feeling the shift, he opened his eyes to a brighter room...if but slightly. His eyes now gazed with the inhuman semblance of a cat's, taking in the abandoned world around him. This place had been left, no one claiming it, no one wanting to. Wrenmae had no idea what importance the family once had, or the respect they commanded...to him this place was a momentary sanctuary.
Pulling his prize out of the cloak wrapped around him, he shook his head. The fall had crushed the loaf of Honey bread he'd stolen, but while not as pretty as when he first took it, it likely tasted just as well.
Taking up a vigil near one of the first floor windows, he munched on his prize while watching the moonlight fill the streets with silver glimmers. Such a quiet night, such a night to feel alive. Between bites he grinned, wiping sweat from his brow with the back of his hand.
It was worth it for the feel of the wind against his brow and this, the prize of a successful thief.
How sweet it was.
This PC has the Blight gnosis. As such, you as a player need to be aware of what that consists of. Wrenmae has an invisible aura that amplifies sickness and disease. Wounds may become infected, small sneezes may become coughing, and a slight fever may become more serious. A nuit's body will also break down faster in the presence of the Blight. These effects may not be immediate, but within the few days following your encounter, the symptoms will manifest. Some sooner than others. I cannot control your character, so creativity will be left up to you. Best wishes and stay healthy!
